@savelijah Actually, in 5th gen, you can. I assume you mean ghost moves like Shadow Claw/Ball, but thanks to Fifth Gen's Ring Target, Smeargle become susceptible to Ghost and can then Sketch them.

Step 1: Ensure that it's low level/low speed.

Step 2: Give it a smoke ball.

Step 3: Using the smoke ball to escape high level Pokemon, find a Ditto.

Step 4: Use sketch, and watch the magic.

@chappegrym1 If you don't want to wait for ten levels or you're at max, you may. Although I prefer to just level it up rather than using th precious Heart Scales. Sometimes, you will need those to teach moves to other Pokemon without sacrificing it to a Smeargle that can just learn it at levels 10, 20, 30, and so on.

How come in SoulSilver, i put smeargle first and my scizor second, i enter a double batttle, my scizor goes first and uses sub, smeargle goes second and uses sketch, but it says it failed. ]: why?

@XSmexyMoogleX Here's how it works. Sketch will copy the move that your target previously used. To get the moves you want, find the Pokemon that knows the move and use Sketch after it uses the move you like to copy. If in case you copied four moves already and your Smeargle learns Sketch again, it's your choice whether or not you would replace the moves you learned. BTW, after a successful use of Sketch, it gets replaced by the move you copied PERMANENTLY, and, therefore, lose Sketch.

@TheBlackShinigami OK , u have to wait a LONG time for getting a double battle,only sketched Judgment in HG/SS,sketched Roar Of Time and Spacial Rend from a game from a friend who didnt battled palkia and dialga , so I had to get the National Dex , traded Smeargle to it(had to give w/ a Pokémon another focus sash)And then , waited until palkia and dialga used their signature mvoes , and it finally worked .With the Judgment it was easier , but I had to wait til the twins finally needed a battle .

I would recommend teaching it belly drum and agility over ingrain and spore, this will make a great attack/speed boost for wifi, and you can spore them to sleep then baton pass to give the stat changes to a more preferable pokemon
