  • Hi 2jobs I don't think you need to do the bar I think it's a good strong way to start and finish. You could just start from under side on both sides and just carry on then at the end finish going down and then knotting ends together and tuck underneath. Hope this helps John

  • John: what happens if you don't do the "bar" stitch at he beginning? Could you just do the first part of that stitch then continue on doing the X stitches?

  • thanks

  • Is it important to glue the leather to the wheel before stitching?

  • @arnesw hi i would recommend that you do glue it on but do not glue across the stitch lines stay about 1/2 inch away from edge of leather.

  • Top marks for your skill at getting it looking uniform

  • Very nice indead

i'm going to try and referbish an old bmw steering wheel, how thick does the leather need to be and do you make the holes before you start??

    thanks

  • @astrami6

hello sorry its late you need to use hides that have been designed for car trimming (auto hides) they are dyed different to upholstery hides but last longer the downside is there generally dearer.

thickness 0.8 or around 2.5 mm hope this helps .ps yes i make holes first before i fit. john
