However, if you feel your opponent is not strong at wrestling (ie, primarily a striker) and you are good on the ground, it would be easy to pass his guard and work from there. Not a bad technique, it has its place. Personally, Id rather do another take down in its place.

Ouchi-Gari can be very effective if its used as a counter. I in a BJJ tournament a few months ago I was fighting a very strong Judo fighter who was just schooling everyone with an Osotogari. Sure a very basic Judo takedown, but he did it with such speed and power and a lot of BJJ guys aren't used to getting slammed around like that.

The Osotogari and Ouchi-Gari flow from one to the other and baiting your opponent into thinking you aren't ready for one often gives you a chance to counter.

I know form experience that they both work. the one Karo is showing requires far less energy expenditure, but is not nearly as painful for your opponent and u will end up in the guard alot. that said it is a great move for later rounds
