Congradulations to Roger for his impressive win at the U.S Open. Rafa #1 on clay, Roger #1 on hardcourts and both men in a dead heat on grass. An historic rivalry.
The contrast in styles between the Spainish Raging Bull and the lethal Swiss Gazelle is what makes for great drama in this sport. Roger has called Rafa "A Great Champion who has my complete respect" showing far more class than some of his ardent fans.
I see it in his strength and foot work, even tho he is winning everything just now. Its still not as sharp as it was, it might take a few more months. Its not like he is taking time out to fully recover so I am sure it will take longer to recovery fully while still playing. I take my hat off to him.
Well when you cant train and have been playing when you shouldnt have been. Plus the recovery time is so long. Its not like a broken bone or virus, it doesnt take a few tablet or a splint and 6 wks later its fixed. This saps your strength for a very long time.
Its a pretty hollow win for those who have won while he has been ill. They get angry coz they know its true. They could only beat him while he was ill. He is still not back to 100% yet you can see that in his the movement and strength.
Roger is neither......it hurt, he has a passion for the game. His game is why kids pick up rackets. Roger is a true Legend of the game. He plays tennis, he doesnt just hit a ball hard. He will be back on form, his health is getting back, he didnt keep the number 1 ranking for nearly 5 years through luck. Thats talent and ability, he will be back all guns blazing.
I love both Roger and Rafa. But why are some people acting like Rafa is Satan just because he defeats Roger every so often? Roger did not lose the Wimbledon final. He FORCED Rafa to win it. In my eyes, Rafa is the only player Roger is allowed to lose to on occasion. Everyone else should bow in the presence of greatness.
Nadal is a great player but his style is physical and will eventually burn him out.
Wimbledon Final: Implacable force had won over finesse and imagination. The hardness of muscle and steely will against the elusive spirit of poetry. The wrong man won!!!
I agree, and people forget it was a win of only two points. That is not a wash out. Maybe it came down to the best man with night sight. Nadal is a retriever, he chases every ball down and smacks the shit out of it. Thats not tennis, his body is giving out know and he is only 22, He wont keep this up, there are too many big hitters coming through who will take him on and out. I like Nadal as a person but his standard of game bores me silly. Rogers is pure art, graceful, poised and beautiful.
I am a huge Rafa fan but Roger is a class act. He will win more majors, all this talk of his demise is balony. I so much admire the complete respect these two men have for each other. Roger is still a huge part of the big three: Rafa, Roger and Djokovic.
I think that Nadal has been chasing Roger for so long it will be hard for him to motivate himself now as he has no pacer. The expectations are all on him now, win every set every game every tournament. His last game the open he was being heckled and he didnt like it, everyone is now after him, Its a different pressure now. He has held the number 1 ranking for 3 weeks, Roger held this pressure for 237 weeks. no competition really.
Roger is a legend and class act. Nadal is his nemesis(inflicter of retribution: 12-6) and the according to Borg, the greatest clay court champion the game has ever seen who is now proving his all court prowess.
yes Nadal is number 1 now...for a whole 3 weeks lets see what he can achieve first before you start handing out the great titles. Clay is a slower game and he has been successful in clay, but still has to prove his consistance in hard court. 12 months is only a start. They are in two difference leagues when it comes to the game of tennis. Nadal hits hard, gets in trouble hits harder,if that doesnt work....he hits harder. Beating the shit out of the ball does not make a good game of tennis.
they are not opinoons...im talking facts...and you fool sampras won 7 wimbledons...he never won wimby 5 consecutive times..if u rare so determined to pick at federer you might as well do it along with other haters or nut-cases..it dosent work with me.
that what i said. read carefully. He could not win 5 consecutive due to injury.
I do not care of you, u replied me firstly. I mean, in my opinion, u r one more of the brainwashed by the ATP proppaganda, that when they needed to promote tennis, the sold Federer as the best. But, people like me who have followed tennis for a long time, it is hard to claim that.
i am not brainwashed..ive watched Federer's game closely....and thts why i consider him tht....all the players think he's the best..if u dont tht cannot be helped.
You talk nonsense....records are not propaganda.......they are facts.
Nadal chases every ball and hits the shit out of it, thats not tennis. He is a retriever, he mimimics other people shots and has adopted Rogers game shots now. He comes up with nothing new. Roger has been playing to this level for 4/5 years now. They are in two different leagues. Anyone watching tennis can see that...Nadal hits hard, thats it, thats his game. His reaction to being beat is hit harder.then harder. Its boring.
Roger also has 237 consecutive weeks as no 1, no other player in history has done that. Connors is the only one who comes second at 160 weeks. Nadal has 3, with 12 injuries in the last 5 years, is constantly strapped , now his ankle.foot are strapped constant blisters, his game is writing cheques his body cant cash. Roger 5 years his senior has not stress injuries, thats due to the type of game played. Nadal is a big hitter, Roger plays tennis. Huge difference.
Oh I like Nadal, dont get me wrong, but his game in my opinion is boring. We have tons of big hitters coming through now, I hope it doesnt kill the art of tennis. We might have to raise the net of soften the balls, or make the racket's smaller....lol
I just see other players now adopting his style of play. They have not come up with anything new, there are sheep and shepherds and Roger is a shepherd. There has been on compettion to his game for years, so they cant beat him they copy him. Its a compliment really. Nadal, I know what to expect of him, hit it hard, if that doesnt work hit it harder, if that fails hit the shit out of it. Boring tennis.
I agree. I know it's all about winning, whatever way you can but the reason I don't particularly like watching the two play against one another is because Rafa uses, imo, a bit of a cowardly game against Roger i.e. his forehand to Roger's backhand.
He never alternates and it becomes tedious watching the same thing all the time.
There really are so many power hitters now that it may just kill the art of tennis. Their philosophy: if it doesn't work, hit even harder.
Yes I agree with you 100%, what I have noticed is that the more intelligent player I.E Murray is not using power, even tho thats in his arsnal if he needs it. But when you watch how Murray took Nadals game apart in the US Open and how Tsonga did it in Aust OP, more players will come to recognise that when your playing a player with limited arsnal then mixing it up and slowing it down, spinning it around really puts them off their game. Stopping them playing their power game renders them mute.
Exactly. Andy played the perfect game against Rafa, with plenty of slice and spin to his shots. He kept the ball low, which prevented Rafa unleashing his forehand. He genuinely looked lost in that match, kind of like "What should I do?"
You could also see that Uncle Toni looked very worried throughout the match. But unfortunately for Rafa, Andy's weapon is his backhand and so he doesn't have the luxury of exploiting it like he does Roger's.
Yes he did look abit lost and he reverted to type by trying to get Andy engaged in power hitting and when he managed it Andy took him on stroke for stroke and actually made Nadal look pretty average. Nadals uncle Tony has always said he didnt want Nadal to play Murray. Federer has recognised the plan behind Murray and recognises how good he is.
Nadal was lost and you could see that in his body language, his eye contact with uncle Tony, his desperate attempt to introduce power to the game.
I can see why he didn't want him to play Murray. I think Roger would have beaten him too since he beat Murray in straight sets but it may have been harder, precisely because Nadal uses that tactic of going to Roger's backhand constantly.
It's particularly effective on clay because the ball bounces so much higher and so it gives him time to set up for his shots.
I dont really enjoy watching clay, its a slow game and looks dirty. Murray also had an advantage that Roger does have is Murrays brother is a left hander and he is used to playing against him so he had that experience. I think Murray has won all his games against lefties except Nadal at that point. Murray has no fear of any of the top seeds I think Tennis is going to be very exciting going forward. Rogers motivation is entirely different from anyone elses. Oh what fun
Problem is, when the clay court season starts, you know (at least, for the last 4 years) who was going to be in the final and you know who was going to win. My heart went with Roger but my head went with Rafa simply because of Roger's weaker backhand wing which works perfectly for Rafa's game.
But Rafa is the only leftie that Roger has had a problem with. He's beaten Gilles Muller twice, he's beaten Lopez six times, he's beaten Verdasco twice. None of them have beaten Roger once.
Roger is a thinker, Im sure he has worked out what he has to do and seeing others do it Im sure he will adapt his game. He has employed a clay lefty for practise so he is going for it. Federer has succeeded in everything he has done so far. I have no doubts he will take the clay too. He has beaten Rafa on clay before, he will again.
I honestly don't think Higueras will do him much good. Roger hasn't needed a coach for quite a few years because, as you said, he is a thinker and can work problems out for himself.
When he beat Rafa in Hamburg, he was very aggressive and wasn't standing on the baseline for the whole match. That's what made the difference on the day.
Just like he played aggressive volleying against Murray. For some reason, though, he doesn't keep doing that against Rafa. I don't know why since it works well.
I think its more to do with getting himself into a differnt mind set and playing a continual lefty will help his process. Roger will digest what he has to do, what has worked before and his plan will form. His concentration is not on everything now. He is singularly minded. He has achieved everything, he will do this....that I am sure of
Just watch the work Federer now does, his motivation is different from the others, he is not interested in titles now its GS and the one he doesnt have. Then he will go for his beloved Wimbledon back, which will give him Petes records and his number 1 rank back. The younger pups will be more of a problem, they have nothing to lose so will go all out.
For tennis its great, this constant Fed / Nadal finals is getting boring. Its putting people off. A little more in the mix makes it more exciting
I agree. I think Murray will really enter into the equation now and go on to great things. I also think that Fed/Nadal finals are getting boring but others seem to want more...
People seem to get carried away with all the power hitting. They two have been on the front stage of tennis for so long, others need to get into the same stage. I think this will happen the more times other players get into the final and play a good game. The Tsonga game was talked about for ages. Now the Murray game, it will make the game all that more exciting. The good thing is all the youngsters coming through now will make the game more exciting and diverse.
I see their two contrasting styles as being a bit like Beauty vs Beast. Unfortunately for those who really appreciate the style and elegance that tennis is known for, Beast is currently prevailing through power and tenacity.
Yes, power always does, however you have heard the saying brains now brawn. Well eventually the power game is muted by removing the power. If thats all you have, what do you do?. You either change your game or lose. You can only play a power game if someone plays it with you. They use your strength to get the speed they need, if you stop feeding that to them. Then they either exhaust themselves trying to do the same and eventually wear themselves out.
As is your right, I prefer intelligent tennis rather than just big hitting. I think Roger and Murrays game compliment each other well. We will just have to get used to the fact now there are other contenders now. its not all about the big two anymore.
Clay season is upon us and federer is shitting himself again i'm sure. Nadal will destroy him even worse than last time, if thats possible? 6-0 6-0 6-0, yep that sounds perfect! Roger take my advice, practise the nappy changing for both yourself and your offspring.
Nadal's body is knackered...his knees are constantly strapped, his ankle and foot not plus he has constant blisters. He has had 12 injuries in the last 5 years and yes he is only 22. His body is telling him it wont last, he will be luck to still be around in 24 months. Roger is 5 years his senior with no stress injuries. Nadal game is writing cheques his body cant cash. Thats not hard work thats stupidity, who ever is working him like a donkey should think abit longer term.
Im glad Federer shows class that some are sadly lacking. Tennis has got some very good players coming through and they will all have to right to take the crown. Nadal included, I have no doubt that Federer will come bounce back, the guy is only human. But what he has done for the game cannot be over looked or undermine. The guy is a true professional of Tennis and no one should disrespect that. Roger everyone is allowed a hickup once in a while. Lets see who can match your record
I have to become roger's coach , i swear i can make him into a warrior, he needs to go on the court and start brutalising his opponents, he is too much of a ncie guy..he respects players too much. He needs to play mind games too, and stop all the world fashion tours..get some practice and watch all of rafa's defeats..like the tsonga match!
I admire Roger so much for this interview! I mean I'm used to hearing him say good things about Nadal cause they both respect each other so much as players, but he even said that Djokovic was very good on hard courts lately and placed him in the favorites top. Although Novak never misses an opportunity to display his cocky attitude and put Federer down, Roger still has good things to say about him. Novak should learn from this
Well that's because in the past Novak was little, he only started playing really good for what, a year or so? And now that he truly improved his game, Roger gives him all the credit he deserves. But Novak has no right to underestimate Roger because he's the #1 and he's a legend. How come Nadal can see that and Djokovic can't?
I beg to differ in many ways. Roger was lucky in the sense that he played in a time where there was no big players. You should bear in your mind that before roger the #1 was a walk in the park. While saying this, I also admit that his biggest challenge these years have been Nadal and keeping a regular performance. I give credits to him for that. But, it is very far from what Pete Sampras lived when he was number one. He outclassed: Agassi, Rafter, Chang, etc. In those times...
Roger had difficult opponents for god's sake...he made them look nobody's..its A FACT...PETE IS NOWHERE NEAR FED..He relied solely on his serve and volley...even agassi said thet Federer was the best player he had ever played against..he said Pete was great..but Roger was something else...Roger made his opponents look like clowns...with roger there was nowhere to go..he had answers to everything..tht is why his opponents looked like no-competition for him..and everyone says tht..
Absolutely not, the proof is that after Peter the number one was reached by several players. Now, there is only one player: Nadal.
btw, Federer's records are nothing in comparisson with Nadal's records. Nadal is 22, 5 grand slams, 30 atp titles. At the same age, federer had almost nothing. Why? Pete was ruling.
It is crystal clear that he has no answers to NADAL.... :)
3. If u clearly recall that tournament, Nadal played the day before against DAdyvenko for more than three hours. Certainly, that helped Roger a lot. Apart from that, on clay, Nadal has been undisputable better than Roger.
4. Again an opinion.
5. Not Nadal.
Pete Sampras won 8 times Wimbledom in 9 years. In the fifth year, he could not win, because he lost against kracijek due to an injury.
one more thing..age dosent matter...ever player matures and a different age...and whtever the reason maybe federer has defeated nadal on clay..and nadal only relies on athletism...please,if u cannot apprecite federer for wht he has done and the level at which he has taken tennis to then dont throw dirt on his professional grace.
I call him the best for he has the perfect blend of traditional and modern tennis..i will never deny tht sampras was great.but his game was too much about serve and volley...
The majority of us don't care about rankings!! Hell.. he's been there for 4 1/2 years..nothing new!!
We just want Roger healthy..happy..and playing the tennis no one ever could/will play!!
This is why Roger will always be better than the rest..including muscle man..he's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more talented..don't be stubborn..of course you can like nadal..your choice..but don't lie to urself that he's better!!
Rafa does not only run after every single ball, he also is mentally stronger. I like Tennis, and I do not thing that RF is the best in history. I can still clearly remember Pistol Pete, McEnroe, Rafter, Chang, Connors, etc.
Tennis was more competetive. However, I want to insist that Roger is a nice guy and he deserves credits for his regularity and perfect tennis. However, Nadal have dome much better considering his age (barely 22).
Regarding Novak. I only wanted to say that Roger also belittled Novak many times, and hence there is not much room for complaining about what Novak says about Roger.
i am a roger federer fan fro a long time now, and i will admit it too, he is seriously scared of nadal, he loses his game always when he plays him. Nadal is tough, he has that latin fighting spirit, Roger is a white dude..they just dont know how to win with raw anger and passion..they get scared when someone comes in their face. Whites are consistant and professional in what they do..but raw power and aggression - they just cant do it
Arrogant??? wtf are yawl smokin...obviously he doesnt have a coach because he doesnt want one. no one told him what to do n it worked for a long ass time..how da fuck does it make him arrogant...even if he is hes still #1 in da world...who wouldnt be a little cocky
The simple thing is that Federer still is capable of dominating tennis but what he really needs is a good coach in the name of Andre Agassi. If he hires Agassi by next year he will win Rolland Garros and break the Slam record.
the end of the king. its just proper you know, fed held on for so long all the glory, the fame, the fortune and the pride of being number one for 5 years, for it to end is just the way life goes. people age and they die, champions fade and fall and they get to be remembered and inducted to the hall of fame.. soory fed fans just stating facts
Well I am a big Roger Fan and i do hope that he gets the motivation back again in form of Hunger to win, i watched his match with Pete and he seemed very hungry to win than even in wimbledon final (off course he was 19 back then!) but still; I do however think that Bjorn borg was a great player because he was able to do Wimbledon and French together for many many years. True had Rafa not been there, Roger would have done the same, but hey! Thats how it goes! Best of Luck Roger!
I agree that he needs that hunger to win again. Not that he doesn't want to win of course. Just that it seems he has gotten comfortable with his play style. He needs to be much more aggressive on the courts. His loss here was due to his forehand failing him and too many unforced errors. That's how it went down in Toronto and Wimbeldon. So its more like Roger losing points because of himself and not really other players slaying him on the courts.
Hmmph, to an extend I agree, but i would have to say that Rafa has improved his game immensely this year; He has never played such good tennis on faster surfaces.
I think its so disrespectful to tell Roger to his face that people are calling Nadal the "unofficial No 1" .. there seemed to be a break in that interview - I heard the interviewer say "yeah, ok" ... wonder what was said?? Roger: "Look, I'm the No 1 at the moment, not Rafa" lol
Well this year, yeah I agree to some extent. I think from this interview it sounds like he hasn't forgotten Wimbledon final loss and his confidence level is the LOWEST because of the same. I looked at his results, he has lost so many finals to Rafa this year. He needs to spruce up his forehand, work a little on his volley (i thought he practically just played from baseline with Rafa in that final which wasn't the best strategy IMHO, but he knows the best cuz he's the one who plays! :)).
Roger. Please fuck off back to switzerland and retire for good. Nadal is going to keep fucking you good. If you dont, it will get very embarrassing for you and your pathetic fans will not be able to cope and will get depressed and suicidal. So for everybodys' sakeplease dont show your face on a tennis court ever again. You know it makes sense.
is it just me, but it always seems as though roger always ends up talking about his peers in interviews. he rarely talks a lot about himself, cause he interviewer always seems more interested in what he thinks of his peers
Everybody is interested in all what he says..and does..coz he's great..
The fact that every time I come to watch Roger here..I find many nadal fans commenting..venting off their anger coz their player was in Roger's shadow for sooooooooooo long..and only came on top in the year #1 had something wrong going with him..NOT BEFORE!! To me that's enough..
Nadal is just a brutal force..I believe even his fans will eventually get bored..Roger intertained us..even when he loses..still an artist!!
I hope i'll make a lot of new friends here , i'd like to show my great body for you, i'd like to give you the greatest pleasure you've ever had..mmmmmmmm..Im getting hot just thinking about it come visit me at Play-Cam (.COM) my user-id there is Rachel-vney chat soon on cam :) rrchevvft
i think that roger federer is the best tennis player in this era sampras wuz good in his era and federer in this one but federer will come back in the clay court season cuz thats what he's best at
Poor Roger! I hope he can come back stronger and more motivated: I think that if he manages to be no.1 till the US, than Nadal will have no chance to dethrone him until Roger retires (not soon, please!!)...
p.s.: did you see his eyes when the interviewer asked him about Wimbledon? Sad, sad,sad... :-(
I supppose it will be a huge consolation if roger wins the us open and the olympic gold and maybe even snatch the upcoming masters in cincinatti as well..I think for him the sweet is going to be even sweeter if he can do that..
He just needs to regroup. The guy has so much game but its his confidence on the court that is his own worst enemy. Notice how Simon and even Rafa were pushed over the edge to win over Roger because of Rogers unforced errors. He had almost double the unforced errors Simon had - which is a bit ridiculous considering his casual play-style. But the guy will be back again next year to win his third Rogers Cup for sure.
However, i think for a player like him who is relatively less stable mentally yet being able to have such an achievement is already shows how much effort he's put in to focus on his games
Though he tries hard not to show it on court, Roger is, and has always been, a very emotional guy on the inside.
2002 was a year of heartaches for him but after being given some time, look what he accomplished the next year?
He'll do it again. As the sensitive guy he is, he probably finds it hard to block things out at times...That's just the guy Roger is. He'll work it out even if the world is doubting him. Give him time.
Federer loses to Gilles Simon in 2nd round of Rogers Masters proving my point to all the Federer defenders. You can be the greatest talent in the world but without having a stable mental psyche you are toast. The ATP tour players should personally thank Nadal for what he did. He has mentally slayed Federer.
The worst part is: you make a point. The best part is: He's still the greatest of all time, and when he recovers that recently lost psyche, he's going to show everyone who's the toast.
He has been winning for four years and now losing for a half year - suddenly he is said to be all gone? That wouldn't be right. Wait and see.
It's obvious that Federer's main problem is his current lack of confidence. If he'd still believe he's the best, he could win without too many problems. But seeing that Nadal keeps winning and now that an unknown Simon eliminated him from the very beginning of the hard-court season can't be that encouraging. The truth is that Roger has had this Rafa-complex on clay for a very long time but the worst part is that this complex doesn't only stick to clay now, it got on grass too and it's growing.
And if Nadal keeps up the top form,I don't see an easy way out of this uncomfortable situation for Fed. He always seems calm and in charge with things but I don't think it's that easy for him. It's also that people have this image of him, that he's invincible and that must also put a lot of pressure on him cause he wouldn't let his fans down. I'm a Nadal fan but I really hate to see Roger having to go through all this, I hope he'll recover mentally soon. And btw, this interviewer is plain stupid!
Newsflash: Federer has just got fucked again at the masters by a nobody. How the mighty have fallen. lol. Big thanks to nadal for completely fucking roger that he too scared to play anybody. lol. fuck off to switzerland B4 you start embarrassing yourself even more. Fucking spineless piece of shit
u think its easy to come out off a loss like tht????? why dont you try it???? wimbledon is the dearest to him...its obviously affected him...id like to see nadal lose french open and be at the top of the world.
incredible tennis???? nadal's game is entirely based on athletism..he just runa around like a rabbit chasing every ball down..it works for him...but how long??? and please there's nothing extraordinary abt tht...on the contrary its rather monotonous.
his forehand is good on clay...on grass he only runs ...and tht backhand is nothing special...yeah i knw right now he's the better player..but roger is the best...he's got things worked out for him ever since he became pro..but federer is a self-made man..tht makes me respect his game even more...nobody like roger..roger is beyind the extraordinary..Allez Roger!
Well, if you think Ndal's playing is monotonous I imagine you don't really like tennis. I can understand you suppor Federer, I do like him, but please don't say "there's nothing extraodinary" in Rafa. Otherwise he'd have never beaten Federer in clay nor in Wimbledon. Let's see what happens.
i LOVE TENNIS..BUT i dont like nadal's game..i already said hus pace works for him...but apart from tht i dont see any fluidity in his shots..his game is more about grinding out points
if that damn nadal hadn't arrived in the scene, Federer would have been the ultimate best player ever, winnning calendar slams like 2 consecutive years and 3 times total or something crazy like that, i can't believe they're friend, he'd be my deadly nemesis, after all he would have robbed me of doing
Wimbledon was extremely close. It could have gone either way. Nadal got lucky that's all. Roger will ALWAYS be No.1 in my book. I love this dude so much; always will no matter what happens to his game. He could be coming to the end of his career; it's bound to happen, and will happen to all the players, let's face it.
It's interesting how the reporters ask only Roger about other player's games. Sure they do ask the other players the same but they don't comment on it as in-depth as Roger.
ibrahimadaci, I agree. If Nadal didn't come on the scene until a little later, Roger would have won so many French Open titles. Well, Roger is the 2nd best French Open player which makes him a much better player than Pete. I love Roger so much. He's much more modest than Pete ever was.
I think the next few months will really be career defining. If he loses both the Olympics (no gold) and the US, I dare say we might have seen the last of Federer winning GS finals altogether. He has always struck me as someone who would lose his game quickly not for any lack of talent because I agree wholeheartedly that he is the best pure striker of the ball and the best technical player BUT because of a fragile psyche that Nadal through his play keeps infecting.
I think Roger answered the questions very well and I was intrigued and impressed that he made a point to say Nadal won the match fairly. I think someone told him to drop the complaint about the fading light because it made him come across as somewhat unsportsmanlike. I do agree though with other commentators that his confidence seems shaken. I recall in a BBC interview that he attributed his roll from 04 Aussie through 07 US to having the confidence to know he could win every time out.
Roger is such a gentleman. Some of those questions had to sting and he handled them with grace, as always. I have no ill will against Rafa who I think is a nice young man. But nobody plays like Roger.
ahhh omg i agree with everyone who is for federer. i dont have anything against nadal and if he was up against anyone other than federer i would definitely cheer for him. but in these cases i really want federer to be number 1 still cause he really does deserve it i dont get why people say he is arrogant, i t really is hard to lose and still be as poised as he is. those questions were really tought to answer considering he just LOST HIS CROWN after 5 consecutive years. so practic and train hard!
and yes theres no unofficial number 1 theres only the man who takes it at the end of the year. But yes just to clear all that up and please no pathetic responses from bicep boy lovers. Fed will come back of course he wants to get 15 or more slams and stay number 1 and wants that french. So he'll either get them or "die trying". but he wont go away this easily.
it was NOT "very fair play" roger is just too nice. nadal used the same old under wear grabbing, bottle positioning, go slow time wasting tactics along with the unattractive whining and moaning when he hits every shot. Plus for the third time this year he falls and pretends to be injured against roger and hes done it many more times against other players to break their rhythm. I timed many points in the final in which nadal exceeded 20 seconds. should have had more warnings and points deducted.
STUPID STUPID interviewer. shut up and stop asking those questions. But woot for roger. he's holding his head up high and this is the first time i've seen him since bloody sunday and he's keeping positive. GO ROG!
Well, he definitely seems sad - obviously his heart still aches when he has to face the losing-Wimbledon-and-Nadal-being-good topic. But i think his confidence hasn't changed, greatfully.
I feel sorry for him, as the interview was 95% about his recent loss. But he's doing a great job, pushing his sorrow out of the way. He needs to forget it!
I wanna hug him. He's such a warrior, he will come back, i know.
I agree,. He still seems, IMO, visbily upset by the final. He, obviously, hasn't gotten over it yet.
I still think he's the greatest player of all time, but to get back on track, he has to win the US Open... otherwise, it could be the last we see of Federer.
Roger is hot....love.. Roger Federer is all-time best player.

Its a pretty hollow win for those who have won while he has been ill. They get angry coz they know its true. They could only beat him while he was ill. He is still not back to 100% yet you can see that in his the movement and strength.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
Show me a good loser and Ill show you a loser.

ErinAlexis86 3 years ago 3
Nadal is a great player but his style is physical and will eventually burn him out.
Wimbledon Final: Implacable force had won over finesse and imagination. The hardness of muscle and steely will against the elusive spirit of poetry. The wrong man won!!!
anthony0411 3 years ago

Roger is still a huge part of the big three: Rafa, Roger and Djokovic.
danieldrownr 3 years ago 3
I think that Nadal has been chasing Roger for so long it will be hard for him to motivate himself now as he has no pacer. The expectations are all on him now, win every set every game every tournament. His last game the open he was being heckled and he didnt like it, everyone is now after him, Its a different pressure now. He has held the number 1 ranking for 3 weeks, Roger held this pressure for 237 weeks. no competition really.
Roger is Legend and the Daddy of Tennis.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
Roger is a legend and class act. Nadal is his nemesis(inflicter of retribution: 12-6) and the according to Borg, the greatest clay court champion the game has ever seen who is now proving his all court prowess.
danieldrownr 3 years ago
yes Nadal is number 1 now...for a whole 3 weeks lets see what he can achieve first before you start handing out the great titles. Clay is a slower game and he has been successful in clay, but still has to prove his consistance in hard court. 12 months is only a start. They are in two difference leagues when it comes to the game of tennis. Nadal hits hard, gets in trouble hits harder,if that doesnt work....he hits harder. Beating the shit out of the ball does not make a good game of tennis.

that what i said. read carefully. He could not win 5 consecutive due to injury.
I do not care of you, u replied me firstly. I mean, in my opinion, u r one more of the brainwashed by the ATP proppaganda, that when they needed to promote tennis, the sold Federer as the best. But, people like me who have followed tennis for a long time, it is hard to claim that.
agfigueroaa 3 years ago
i am not brainwashed..ive watched Federer's game closely....and thts why i consider him tht....all the players think he's the best..if u dont tht cannot be helped.
diehardFedfan 3 years ago
You talk nonsense....records are not propaganda.......they are facts.
Nadal chases every ball and hits the shit out of it, thats not tennis. He is a retriever, he mimimics other people shots and has adopted Rogers game shots now. He comes up with nothing new. Roger has been playing to this level for 4/5 years now. They are in two different leagues. Anyone watching tennis can see that...Nadal hits hard, thats it, thats his game. His reaction to being beat is hit harder.then harder. Its boring.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
Roger also has 237 consecutive weeks as no 1, no other player in history has done that. Connors is the only one who comes second at 160 weeks. Nadal has 3, with 12 injuries in the last 5 years, is constantly strapped , now his ankle.foot are strapped constant blisters, his game is writing cheques his body cant cash. Roger 5 years his senior has not stress injuries, thats due to the type of game played. Nadal is a big hitter, Roger plays tennis. Huge difference.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
i know that of course...im a huge federer fan..but its only fair to give nadal credit for his hard-work.
diehardFedfan 3 years ago
Oh I like Nadal, dont get me wrong, but his game in my opinion is boring. We have tons of big hitters coming through now, I hope it doesnt kill the art of tennis. We might have to raise the net of soften the balls, or make the racket's smaller....lol
CASPER10666 3 years ago
well...i do agree with you..i dont see anything new or special when i see him playing...
diehardFedfan 3 years ago
I just see other players now adopting his style of play. They have not come up with anything new, there are sheep and shepherds and Roger is a shepherd. There has been on compettion to his game for years, so they cant beat him they copy him. Its a compliment really. Nadal, I know what to expect of him, hit it hard, if that doesnt work hit it harder, if that fails hit the shit out of it. Boring tennis.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
Ryan81M 3 years ago
Yes I agree with you 100%, what I have noticed is that the more intelligent player I.E Murray is not using power, even tho thats in his arsnal if he needs it. But when you watch how Murray took Nadals game apart in the US Open and how Tsonga did it in Aust OP, more players will come to recognise that when your playing a player with limited arsnal then mixing it up and slowing it down, spinning it around really puts them off their game. Stopping them playing their power game renders them mute.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
Ryan81M 3 years ago
Yes he did look abit lost and he reverted to type by trying to get Andy engaged in power hitting and when he managed it Andy took him on stroke for stroke and actually made Nadal look pretty average. Nadals uncle Tony has always said he didnt want Nadal to play Murray. Federer has recognised the plan behind Murray and recognises how good he is.
Nadal was lost and you could see that in his body language, his eye contact with uncle Tony, his desperate attempt to introduce power to the game.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
I can see why he didn't want him to play Murray. I think Roger would have beaten him too since he beat Murray in straight sets but it may have been harder, precisely because Nadal uses that tactic of going to Roger's backhand constantly.
It's particularly effective on clay because the ball bounces so much higher and so it gives him time to set up for his shots.
Ryan81M 3 years ago
I dont really enjoy watching clay, its a slow game and looks dirty. Murray also had an advantage that Roger does have is Murrays brother is a left hander and he is used to playing against him so he had that experience. I think Murray has won all his games against lefties except Nadal at that point. Murray has no fear of any of the top seeds I think Tennis is going to be very exciting going forward. Rogers motivation is entirely different from anyone elses. Oh what fun
CASPER10666 3 years ago
Problem is, when the clay court season starts, you know (at least, for the last 4 years) who was going to be in the final and you know who was going to win. My heart went with Roger but my head went with Rafa simply because of Roger's weaker backhand wing which works perfectly for Rafa's game.
But Rafa is the only leftie that Roger has had a problem with. He's beaten Gilles Muller twice, he's beaten Lopez six times, he's beaten Verdasco twice. None of them have beaten Roger once.
Ryan81M 3 years ago
Roger is a thinker, Im sure he has worked out what he has to do and seeing others do it Im sure he will adapt his game. He has employed a clay lefty for practise so he is going for it. Federer has succeeded in everything he has done so far. I have no doubts he will take the clay too. He has beaten Rafa on clay before, he will again.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
I honestly don't think Higueras will do him much good. Roger hasn't needed a coach for quite a few years because, as you said, he is a thinker and can work problems out for himself.
When he beat Rafa in Hamburg, he was very aggressive and wasn't standing on the baseline for the whole match. That's what made the difference on the day.
Just like he played aggressive volleying against Murray. For some reason, though, he doesn't keep doing that against Rafa. I don't know why since it works well.
Ryan81M 3 years ago
I think its more to do with getting himself into a differnt mind set and playing a continual lefty will help his process. Roger will digest what he has to do, what has worked before and his plan will form. His concentration is not on everything now. He is singularly minded. He has achieved everything, he will do this....that I am sure of
CASPER10666 3 years ago
It's just that Rafa's forehand has crazy topspin which neutralizes Roger's backhand, whereas the other lefties have relatively flat forehands.
Ryan81M 3 years ago
Just watch the work Federer now does, his motivation is different from the others, he is not interested in titles now its GS and the one he doesnt have. Then he will go for his beloved Wimbledon back, which will give him Petes records and his number 1 rank back. The younger pups will be more of a problem, they have nothing to lose so will go all out.
For tennis its great, this constant Fed / Nadal finals is getting boring. Its putting people off. A little more in the mix makes it more exciting
CASPER10666 3 years ago
I agree. I think Murray will really enter into the equation now and go on to great things. I also think that Fed/Nadal finals are getting boring but others seem to want more...
Ryan81M 3 years ago
People seem to get carried away with all the power hitting. They two have been on the front stage of tennis for so long, others need to get into the same stage. I think this will happen the more times other players get into the final and play a good game. The Tsonga game was talked about for ages. Now the Murray game, it will make the game all that more exciting. The good thing is all the youngsters coming through now will make the game more exciting and diverse.
CASPER10666 3 years ago
I see their two contrasting styles as being a bit like Beauty vs Beast. Unfortunately for those who really appreciate the style and elegance that tennis is known for, Beast is currently prevailing through power and tenacity.
Ryan81M 3 years ago 2
Yes, power always does, however you have heard the saying brains now brawn. Well eventually the power game is muted by removing the power. If thats all you have, what do you do?. You either change your game or lose. You can only play a power game if someone plays it with you. They use your strength to get the speed they need, if you stop feeding that to them. Then they either exhaust themselves trying to do the same and eventually wear themselves out.
CASPER10666 3 years ago

Im glad Federer shows class that some are sadly lacking. Tennis has got some very good players coming through and they will all have to right to take the crown. Nadal included, I have no doubt that Federer will come bounce back, the guy is only human. But what he has done for the game cannot be over looked or undermine. The guy is a true professional of Tennis and no one should disrespect that. Roger everyone is allowed a hickup once in a while. Lets see who can match your record
CASPER10666 3 years ago 3
I have to become roger's coach , i swear i can make him into a warrior, he needs to go on the court and start brutalising his opponents, he is too much of a ncie guy..he respects players too much. He needs to play mind games too, and stop all the world fashion tours..get some practice and watch all of rafa's defeats..like the tsonga match!
SidneyXda 3 years ago
I admire Roger so much for this interview! I mean I'm used to hearing him say good things about Nadal cause they both respect each other so much as players, but he even said that Djokovic was very good on hard courts lately and placed him in the favorites top. Although Novak never misses an opportunity to display his cocky attitude and put Federer down, Roger still has good things to say about him. Novak should learn from this
lookalike00 3 years ago
In the past, Roger has also belittled Novak. Now, he has no chance to continuing doing that.
agfigueroaa 3 years ago
Well that's because in the past Novak was little, he only started playing really good for what, a year or so? And now that he truly improved his game, Roger gives him all the credit he deserves. But Novak has no right to underestimate Roger because he's the #1 and he's a legend. How come Nadal can see that and Djokovic can't?
lookalike00 3 years ago
I beg to differ in many ways. Roger was lucky in the sense that he played in a time where there was no big players. You should bear in your mind that before roger the #1 was a walk in the park. While saying this, I also admit that his biggest challenge these years have been Nadal and keeping a regular performance. I give credits to him for that. But, it is very far from what Pete Sampras lived when he was number one. He outclassed: Agassi, Rafter, Chang, etc. In those times...
agfigueroaa 3 years ago
Roger had difficult opponents for god's sake...he made them look nobody's..its A FACT...PETE IS NOWHERE NEAR FED..He relied solely on his serve and volley...even agassi said thet Federer was the best player he had ever played against..he said Pete was great..but Roger was something else...Roger made his opponents look like clowns...with roger there was nowhere to go..he had answers to everything..tht is why his opponents looked like no-competition for him..and everyone says tht..
diehardFedfan 3 years ago 2
Absolutely not, the proof is that after Peter the number one was reached by several players. Now, there is only one player: Nadal.
btw, Federer's records are nothing in comparisson with Nadal's records. Nadal is 22, 5 grand slams, 30 atp titles. At the same age, federer had almost nothing. Why? Pete was ruling.
It is crystal clear that he has no answers to NADAL.... :)
I hope to argue based on facts, no on feelings
agfigueroaa 3 years ago
you want facts? then here are the facts-
1Federer had 3 slams at Nadals age
2 Federer had too much variety in his game and tht confused him time and again bt he when he got it straight he dominated like never before
3He has answers to nadal and has beaten him on clay 6-0 in Hamburg inspite of not liking the surface
4Federer has absolutely everything in his game. His elegance is unmatched
5He has always had competition just tht till now he was never in a slump and made others look like clowns
diehardFedfan 3 years ago
reply to:
1. NAdal has 5.
2. it is an opinion.
In the fifth year, he could not win, because he lost against kracijek due to an injury.
put things into context.
agfigueroaa 3 years ago
one more thing..age dosent matter...ever player matures and a different age...and whtever the reason maybe federer has defeated nadal on clay..and nadal only relies on athletism...please,if u cannot apprecite federer for wht he has done and the level at which he has taken tennis to then dont throw dirt on his professional grace.

Best of Luck Roger!
meditating010 3 years ago
I agree that he needs that hunger to win again. Not that he doesn't want to win of course. Just that it seems he has gotten comfortable with his play style. He needs to be much more aggressive on the courts. His loss here was due to his forehand failing him and too many unforced errors. That's how it went down in Toronto and Wimbeldon. So its more like Roger losing points because of himself and not really other players slaying him on the courts.
halli321 3 years ago
Hmmph, to an extend I agree, but i would have to say that Rafa has improved his game immensely this year; He has never played such good tennis on faster surfaces.

You're right, Chloewhite.
AAMLfan 3 years ago 6
Federer loses to Gilles Simon in 2nd round of Rogers Masters proving my point to all the Federer defenders. You can be the greatest talent in the world but without having a stable mental psyche you are toast. The ATP tour players should personally thank Nadal for what he did. He has mentally slayed Federer.
rob3377 3 years ago

And btw, this interviewer is plain stupid!

u think its easy to come out off a loss like tht????? why dont you try it???? wimbledon is the dearest to him...its obviously affected him...id like to see nadal lose french open and be at the top of the world.
diehardFedfan 3 years ago 7
I like Federer, but now it's Nadal who is going to show us his incredible tennis. Go Rafa go!
zimtundvanilla 3 years ago
incredible tennis???? nadal's game is entirely based on athletism..he just runa around like a rabbit chasing every ball down..it works for him...but how long??? and please there's nothing extraordinary abt tht...on the contrary its rather monotonous.
diehardFedfan 3 years ago 3
hes fast but its not just athletism his forehand and backhand r amazing and the mental side of it hes just got it all worked out COME ON RAFA
Declanblack08 3 years ago
his forehand is good on clay...on grass he only runs ...and tht backhand is nothing special...yeah i knw right now he's the better player..but roger is the best...he's got things worked out for him ever since he became pro..but federer is a self-made man..tht makes me respect his game even more...nobody like roger..roger is beyind the extraordinary..Allez Roger!
diehardFedfan 3 years ago
Well, if you think Ndal's playing is monotonous I imagine you don't really like tennis. I can understand you suppor Federer, I do like him, but please don't say "there's nothing extraodinary" in Rafa. Otherwise he'd have never beaten Federer in clay nor in Wimbledon. Let's see what happens.
zimtundvanilla 3 years ago
i LOVE TENNIS..BUT i dont like nadal's game..i already said hus pace works for him...but apart from tht i dont see any fluidity in his shots..his game is more about grinding out points
diehardFedfan 3 years ago
i don't like his game either but what would tennis be like if he was on top and getting all the press
i would not watch a final with nadal if roger was not in it
trounbyfire 3 years ago
if that damn nadal hadn't arrived in the scene, Federer would have been the ultimate best player ever, winnning calendar slams like 2 consecutive years and 3 times total or something crazy like that, i can't believe they're friend, he'd be my deadly nemesis, after all he would have robbed me of doing
SunSigil 3 years ago 2
Wimbledon was extremely close. It could have gone either way. Nadal got lucky that's all. Roger will ALWAYS be No.1 in my book. I love this dude so much; always will no matter what happens to his game. He could be coming to the end of his career; it's bound to happen, and will happen to all the players, let's face it.

It's interesting how the reporters ask only Roger about other player's games. Sure they do ask the other players the same but they don't comment on it as in-depth as Roger.
littlegeisha 3 years ago 2
i think that the top three, fed nadal and djokovic, cant lose to anyone other than another top three player when they play at 80% of their best
ibrahimadaci 3 years ago 2
ibrahimadaci, I agree. If Nadal didn't come on the scene until a little later, Roger would have won so many French Open titles. Well, Roger is the 2nd best French Open player which makes him a much better player than Pete. I love Roger so much. He's much more modest than Pete ever was.
YGYGYGYGYGYGYGYGYG10 3 years ago
this guy is so modest its just unbelievable, 'if im playing well ill be hard to beat', that's like one of the understatements of the century

BTW, I harbor no ill will toward him personally. He does a lot of charitable work and promotes the ATP tirelessly. I

I think the next few months will really be career defining. If he loses both the Olympics (no gold) and the US, I dare say we might have seen the last of Federer winning GS finals altogether. He has always struck me as someone who would lose his game quickly not for any lack of talent because I agree wholeheartedly that he is the best pure striker of the ball and the best technical player BUT because of a fragile psyche that Nadal through his play keeps infecting.
rob3377 3 years ago
Roger will be back next year and regain his Wimbledon crown.

I recall in a BBC interview that he attributed his roll from 04 Aussie through 07 US to having the confidence to know he could win every time out.
rob3377 3 years ago 2
wow great answers to all questions, he's very poised

c'mon roger!!!!! i lve him so much he's absolutely fabulous! i hope losing wimbledon will give him motivation to win the French

Roger is such a gentleman. Some of those questions had to sting and he handled them with grace, as always. I have no ill will against Rafa who I think is a nice young man. But nobody plays like Roger.
AlisonBerk 3 years ago 5
agreed, He can be beaten, of course, but nobody plays with such an impressive style and spirit today
mogofou 3 years ago
ahhh omg i agree with everyone who is for federer. i dont have anything against nadal and if he was up against anyone other than federer i would definitely cheer for him. but in these cases i really want federer to be number 1 still cause he really does deserve it i dont get why people say he is arrogant, i t really is hard to lose and still be as poised as he is. those questions were really tought to answer considering he just LOST HIS CROWN after 5 consecutive years. so practic and train hard!
cornetto5 3 years ago 5
and yes theres no unofficial number 1 theres only the man who takes it at the end of the year. But yes just to clear all that up and please no pathetic responses from bicep boy lovers. Fed will come back of course he wants to get 15 or more slams and stay number 1 and wants that french. So he'll either get them or "die trying". but he wont go away this easily.
puredesi123 3 years ago 5
it was NOT "very fair play" roger is just too nice. nadal used the same old under wear grabbing, bottle positioning, go slow time wasting tactics along with the unattractive whining and moaning when he hits every shot. Plus for the third time this year he falls and pretends to be injured against roger and hes done it many more times against other players to break their rhythm. I timed many points in the final in which nadal exceeded 20 seconds. should have had more warnings and points deducted.
puredesi123 3 years ago
what a legend! CMON ROGER
puredesi123 3 years ago 6
STUPID STUPID interviewer. shut up and stop asking those questions. But woot for roger. he's holding his head up high and this is the first time i've seen him since bloody sunday and he's keeping positive. GO ROG!

geez .. will these people stop breathing rafa down Roger's neck any time soon? I'm starting to suffer from Rafa-itis.

He doesnt speak like he was before/during wimbledon.... maybe a lil' less confident.
Do you agree?
fetez1 3 years ago
I don't know...To me, he sounds as balanced as he always was.
AAMLfan 3 years ago 5
Well, he definitely seems sad - obviously his heart still aches when he has to face the losing-Wimbledon-and-Nadal-being-good topic. But i think his confidence hasn't changed, greatfully.
I feel sorry for him, as the interview was 95% about his recent loss. But he's doing a great job, pushing his sorrow out of the way. He needs to forget it!
I wanna hug him. He's such a warrior, he will come back, i know.
chloewhite 3 years ago 5
fetez1- Hell no I dont agree. He is confident and motivated to keep going and prove himself!
fudhi77 3 years ago 3
I agree,. He still seems, IMO, visbily upset by the final. He, obviously, hasn't gotten over it yet.
I still think he's the greatest player of all time, but to get back on track, he has to win the US Open... otherwise, it could be the last we see of Federer.
djtmaroon 3 years ago
Roger knew those Wimby/Nadal questions were coming - and he handled them beautifully.
I love this man. :)
