sounds like woodbury hights siren. i should know. my grandmom lives not even a 1/2 a m,ile away. it went off 30t frm me one time. i will never forget that
Not real sure, when I got up in the ladder truck to take a look at it, I couldn't see inside the top but I remember one of the guys saying something about a solenoid, so I'm not real sure yet.
Oh I also ours only does the attack mode b/c thats the only relay we got it set up for.. Push just one button 1 time it goes off for like 5 min...5 min for everytime you push the button..lol the twp loves us for structure fires..it gets pushed like 5 times..lol
The model 5's must have been a popular siren back in the day for Vol Fire Depts b/c we got one at our station and i've seen a couple other depts that have them here in Ohio..its just as old i bet but it still works and is in great shape. Maybe i could get a vid of it soon on here for ya'll.
Hundereds of VFDs have them and STL/STH-10's were Federal's top 3 fire sirens back in the day :). Where I live Hecktown VFD PA , Tested it's STL-10 love hearing it from a distance.
With the FEDELCODE tag, I would almost guarantee it is older than that. I've only seen FEDELCODE tags on siren from the Federal Electric era, and that would be up until the late 1940s.
excuse my language but that is a badass siren

Yeah! How long was it out of service Charlie D?
JrFireFighter1544 2 years ago
I don't really know for sure, maybe a good 15 years or so.
soccerdude7330 2 years ago
Wow! 15 years? That explains all the rust on top of it. That siren could use some refurbishing/cleaning.
JrFireFighter1544 2 years ago
How old is that siren?
Wow, an F-4 tornado! Those bastards are huge!
JrFireFighter1544 2 years ago
Where can I buy sirens for use at my own house, like in your 26 minute tornado warning video?
lilman45217 2 years ago
Me, when I come across some more ;)
soccerdude7330 2 years ago
IT sounds good, but it looks like that old siren could use a little TLC!

12 port
Thunderbirds76 2 years ago
@Thunderbirds76 whats that?
SuperWeaves 2 years ago
This siren sounds like a 2001 because they are both 12 port.
Thunderbirds76 2 years ago
Because 2001's are supercahrged Model 5's. It has the same chopper as the model 5. It's just a rotational version.
Jared1452 2 years ago
@Jared1452 This chopper is a bit different than that of a normal Model 5's or a 2001's.
crazywarriorman 2 years ago
Oh mybad. I thought they had the same choppers. Was it the new model 5's built in the 80 & 70's that had a similer chopper that was used in the 2001?
Jared1452 2 years ago
@Jared1452 I belive so.

Damn old siren. How rotten is the support structure
kjhs09 2 years ago
It's actually in very good shape! All it needs is a good coat of paint. The supports are also in great condition.
soccerdude7330 2 years ago
may need to replace that lol a severe thunderstorm with 60mph winds comes along and topples that ruins the siren and it wasnt even a tornado
stormspotters 2 years ago
Nah that sucker is sturdy. It's not going anywhere at all anytime soon.

Man that is WAY too long of an Attack Signal timing after the wind up. At least it still sounds healthy for such of an old ass siren that is.
