I also noticed the wonderful use he made of the musical stingers, a part of film music that has sadly mostly disappeared from modern horror film soundtracks. Although Dramatic films tend to still use them.
John Harrison really outdid himself for this flick, besides the wonderful opening title/prologue score this piece for the Crate is so wonderfully haunting to me. This is do to the frequent use of minor keys and chords here, and it's just beautiful. :D Bravo John
4:20 What is it about this cold ambiance that I just love? Is it the thought about how the creature is from the arctics? Is it the thought of how the creature has sat quietly in its crate for over a century, just waiting for release? Is that a goddamn canary chirping in the middle of it?!
WHAT IS IT?!?!?!?!...................................
........................oh, but I like the music too.
And why not decent anthologies anymore? Everything these days is a remake of horror films from the seventies and eighties... My view is, if something is done right, with the right people (as here, Romero and King, et al) people will pay money to see it. If you give people quality, they will pay for it.
Yes Creepshow 3 WAS a piece of crap. I almost bought the damned thing... But something told me to rent it first. Glad I didn't waste money and buy the thing.
How come they don't make more Creepshows? I mean they're remaking every crappy 1980's horror/slasher film while these fabulous treasures of childhood awesomeness could be an annual Halloween movie people would spend $ on.
@KillingDarwin Well, they did make a third Creepshow that Stephen King and George Romero had absolutely nothing to do with and it was a total piece of crap. I've heard that King has been working on a script for a new Creepshow though and hopefully Romero will direct it.
Love those synthesizer sounds, so nostalgic. I remember when I was watching the movie, I rewound and rewatched the transition part between Something to Tide You Over and The Crate, from 0:00 to 0:25 at least four times because that part sounded so cool.
When the janitor gets sucked in..it still disturbs me. The look of shock on his face and the blood running down. Then when the student is mutilated. Screaming as a chunk is torn from his neck. It's over the top but creepy.
How did that creature survive all those years in a crate with no food?Is it able to go into some very prolonged form of hibernation?Well whatever kind of iceage beast it was it was awesome.
I love it but it appears to be missing the music from just before Charlie gets killed. There was some very suspenseful, low, forbidding music in that part. Tracks 5-6 skip right from "the crate opening scene" to "Henry cleans up" music, omitting the "Charlie has a look" music.
This track brings back nightmares of Fluffy. Very disorienting and frightening. One of the few movies I actually "shrieked" at.

I always loved the first 25 seconds of this. It's the music that plays right before The Crate starts.
