  • why the fuck is everyone arguing over "the bible is a lie god is fake" and "god is real it says here in the bible!" crap on totally unrelated videos? guys take it somewhere else and stop cluttering the comments >:[

  • This is a great video

  • lol, me again writing comment : does anyone found out interesting videos of 'elves'? This looks like a dish or an 'ufo'. I didn't understand well but it seems to be also the upper part of the plasma thing in a sprite...

  • In french they say 'Sylphs' for 'Sprites', i didn't know why since i saw this on the discovery channel. Pretty beautiful (beginning 8:13) : they looks like sea gorgons. Movie 'the darkest hour' should have better aliens than pokemons if they took their inspiration in this... Pretty cool, thx to share! :)

  • props for the amazing sprite shots, and for those looking to see just the sprites, they start at about 8:30, they do a lot of build up hahah

  • This lightning is badass. When I grow up, I want to be a sprite

  • Look can we all stop arguing about gods and science here and just acknowledge the REAL truth that everyone knows: Sprites are aliens from the constellation Vega that the Native Americans mistook for thunder gods.

::shakes head:: seriously people. Use some common sense!

  • can we stop talking about god? this video is about this amazing phenomenon occurring in nature...we should be talking about lightning : / not...god..(?)

  • thumbs up if you immediately recognized that the narrator was richard hammond!

  • Richard Hammond!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • simpply gorgeous

  • Wouldnt it be possible to harness the power of lighting? Didnt Nikola Tesla try doing that?

  • @Amalganman They use laws they have "made up" because those laws work. Repeatedly. As in practically all the time. And these laws only become laws after they have been tested, usually by people who *didn't* make them up. Peer Reviewed science. If one of these "made up" laws is proven to be just that it gets retracted, and further testing is done to see if it has truly been refuted. Science is a changing thing, always correcting itself if a problem is posited. "Circular" is self-correction.

  • Lightning Sprites truly are signs that heaven exists.

  • @LordAkira Burritos truly are signs that heaven exists.

  • this is awesome, great clip and very good post

  • We just had a major lightning storm with torado warning in toronto, and with one of the largest towers in the world you start to look at lightning. search it on youtube and it was soo intense that you are able to see the lightning sprout from the tower to the sky.

  • I swear, every video I watch on youtube ends up hosting a debate on god and religion in the comments section.

  • Pot and game systems duh!

  • Yeah, none of this religion talk is explicitly relevant to the video. Let's keep on topic, children!

  • funny fact about god: if you take the deffinition of god seriously, god MUST exist. The deffinition of god implies perfection. god is PERFECT. Well, perfection implies existence. So if god is perfect, it must exist, otherwise it wouldn't be perfect ;)

And all the religion haters here are just replacing the dogmatic laws of religion with the dogmatic laws of natural science. Science is not really different from religion. it tries to explain nature, just like religion, nothing more nothing less.

  • @Amalganman That is very very poor logic for your God, and can be applied to Allah as well. I could say that *my* god, who supports the killing of all christians, is perfect. Well perfection implies existence. So if my god is perfect, he must exist.

Do you see the flaw in the argument. I'm not saying that God doesn't exist, I'm just saying that you should find a more logically sound argument.

  • @Chooky707 the question is not IF God is perfect. that is a fact. the imagination of god implies perfection, which means existence. poor thing is, this is just a linguistic "proof". the word perfection means existence, so it is not a matter of deffinition like u might think. and sure, it would work for allah as well, simply because allah and god are the same thing. i dont argue about different religions, but about faith.

  • @Chooky707 btw. i dont think that god exists, i just like the way the argument works. u can take a word with a certain meaning and just make the next step in conclusion: i.e. :God must be perfect just because he or she ;) is god -> because he is perfect he must exist, simply because he is perfect! i think this is funny and (poor thing for u) flawless. it is not a matter of my god or your god or the five rules of islam or the old testament or the tora or anything else about religion

  • @Amalganman You don't think that god exists? Sorry I thought you were trying to make a very poor and very circular argument for his/her existance. Never mind then

  • @Chooky707 poor thing is, it is not circular. as ive said, existence is a necessary part of the modern philosophical definition of the word "god", so there is no ircular argument...nevertheless faith is faith and you have to believe to believe...you cannot proof god if you dont want to believe and you cannot proof that there is no god if you want to believe.. my point is that natural science is in a similar situation. most people simply believe in natural science and dont question it anymore...

  • @Amalganman Actually, the natural sciences have evidence. I suggest you actually study them.

  • @Chooky707 the only evidence they have are made by themselves...didnt you mention something about something beeing circular ? ;) they keep on trying toproof themselves andkeep on using their own rules for them...all that you and many other scientist are saying is: natural science is right because it is right...thats all... give me a proof for them beeing true without using a law they made up by themself and i wont question them anymore. untill them just follow your "new god" ...

  • @Chooky707 im not saying that you should start believing in god, all im saying is that every scientist who doesnt doubt at least a bit, should stop calling himself a scientist and maybe start working as a prophet cause thats what he will sound like....

  • Sprites actually can last 1/10 of a second and can therefore be seen by the naked eye.

  • woah, richard hammond lo

  • we get elves alot in my hometown. very common during the summer.

  • Comment removed

  • DOUBLE RAINBOW @1:44

  • Rapid City sits on a lay line point

  • Fantástico!!! No tengo palabras

  • Only on fucking Youtube would you have idiots arguing over the existence of god after watching a vid on sprites. God or no god, sprites are fucking awesome.

  • Positive lightning isn't made by humans. It occurs naturally, and it tends to strike radio towers, just like normal negative lightning, because the towers are a low-resistance path between the ground and the cloud. Also, there's nothing special about this one town. Positive lightning strikes happen anywhere there's a thunderstorm. Sometimes you can even tell which ones are positive by the sound, if you know what you're listening for.

  • @Envergure I am a meteorology geek, can you tell me how you can hear the difference between a postive and negative lightening strike :)

  • @PrismSong

If you're directly under the storm, I don't think you can tell easily. However, from further away, the thunder is just loud and sharp, considering the distance, and it doesn't sound as crackly as the thunder from negative strikes, either. If you're well away from the storm and in the plane of the bolt, you can hear it rumbling on and on for like 45 seconds and it's really cool (take the 10 km length of the bolt and divide by the speed of sound, that's how long the sound can last.)

  • @Envergure I am a meteorology geek, can you tell me how you can hear the difference between a positive and negative lightening strike :)

  • What a beautiful phenomenon. Simply marvelous.

  • why is it so hard to see the obvious answer? the happy medium. God simply guided evolution. god didn't pop us all out of nothing, but over the span of many millennia, toiled to make us what we are through his design. Evolution IS design.

  • when the upside down lightning strikes up, you can hear the radio frequency and that proves that its from the towers, haha thats pretty cool.

    P.S. im not rocket scientist.

  • What would happen if a plane flies beyond the border of space?

  • Richard Hammond narrates this, for all the Top Gear fans out there.

  • Here we go again, some religious nut sees something he cant understand and attributes it to a so-called god. Instead of trying to find the more logic reason.

  • NATURE RULES!!

  • this is just, .. too much. How can you not see god through this?

  • @juanferrero2009

its like god is giving us, souls!

  • @purplerocks1 everyone on here is pretty much scientific and narrow-minded, huh? well I appreciate your simile and imagination. i love lightning. a lot. like, a whole lot.

    ⚡

  • @juanferrero2009 By realizing the mechanics behind it. To an uneducated eye, events like this might seem magical, spectral, or even divine, but by understanding the science, one realizes it's something even better then all three those; natural.

  • in the response to the Christian/athiest argument:

if there was no creator and evolution happened, etc., then how, may i ask, did some animals, let's use birds, and others, let's use iguanas, develop wings, while some did not, even though they were probably living in the same region?

  • @SR71pilot2007 I can honestly say that this is the stupidest question I have ever heard. Crack open a book that isn't the Bible, or try to use whatever common sense you may or may not have. Either way, this is one you have to figure out for yourself.

And it is not a matter of atheism. Believing in God and acknowledging evolution are not mutually exclusive.

  • @approxnormal ok douche bag, if ur so smart what happened? how did only a few animals develop into some things while others didn't? if u apparently figured my question out long ago, why, why did it happen? and maybe if u developed some common sense before ranting on others who apparently use theirs, then maybe u would defend ur argument just a little bit if ur gonna try to look smart? but when/if u develop it come back and tell me what u've learned, and grow up-u seem like ur 12, arguing about

  • @SR71pilot2007 ...something u apparently know nothing about, like my 12 yr old brother does regularly

  • @SR71pilot2007 There is no why, there is no reason. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can let go of that weird idea that a god must exist. Everything is just chance. There is no reason we exist, no reason for our lives, no reason to our deaths. Just live happily and enjoy your live, that's all. People invented gods because they want reason, they want to think their lives mean something, but they don't.

  • @lios76 well that's certainly emo sounding

  • @SR71pilot2007 ROFL. Nice comeback, haha :-D

  • @lios76 thanks lol

  • @SR71pilot2007 Well, iguanas didn't develop wings because they didn't need them. As genetic mutations happen, most are bad for the animal. But, some are actually good for them, so the animal that just gained it thrives. So, if a mutation happens that works, it means 'God says it's good'

On the topic of religion, I do believe in a creator, but in a different way. I think that over millions of years, civilizations get so advanced that they are able to manipulate physics and create universes,

  • @SR71pilot2007 (continued) and become what we know as god. They are monitoring us, and every planet in the universe and looking for signs of life. Therefore they are identical to God, and are God. I am sure that if we don't kill ourselves in the next 100's of years, that we will be 'God' too. Go search up the Kardashev scale. I'm talking about more than a Type III. And remember, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

  • @SR71pilot2007 evolution is not a simple thing to understand hence why people needed to understand things by using the "Easy way" aka "god did it!!!!"

  • @SR71pilot2007 evolution is not a simple thing to understand hence why people needed to understand things by using the "Easy way" aka "god did it!!!!"

  • @SR71pilot2007 Chance. That is what evolution is. Genes change, it works well, the next generation changes a little more, until in the end, they are vastly different from other species. There are mots in England that changed color over just a few generations. Animals in a polluted forest where trees turned dark, became dark, and the ones in normal forests stayed light. In a million years, they may be truly different species.

  • @SR71pilot2007

Good Lord, I don't know who it is you're ARGUING with, but stop using this page for some STUPID RELIGION/ATHEISM DEBATE!! I came here to see a wonder of nature NOT YOU AND A COUPLE OF OTHER DOUCHE BAGS BICKERING OVER BULLSHIT! YOU'VE BEEN CONTINUING THIS SHIT FEST FOR TOO LONG, SHUT UP ALREADY!!!

  • @SR71pilot2007 what does that have anything to do with sprites?

  • @SR71pilot2007 evolution is animals adapting to their environment in a competition to survive and get resources, like crocodiles have 2nd eyelids that are transparent and work like goggles, it helps them hunt

  • Man that was so cool.

  • @MrWhateva2010 if you can afford a spy jey than you CAN.But you have to eat your veggis

  • This is what I saw from 50feet away in 1960 and again in 2004. Wonderful

  • @ slarmas you sir are so uneducated. thank you for honored me the name caveman because cave men invented alot of tools that we are useing now and also he invented the writing by drawing a symbols on the cave wall and color it. but you did nothing, just like donkey ( eat , work , sleep) , you never use your brain. if you do ! ask yourself of how creat nature?and why?, how creat the world?and why?, how creat you? and why? deprogram yourself ..crap.

  • @ahmednajim My education is what allowed me to see through the god delusion and explained why there were in fact no gods, goddesses or magical fairies living in the garden. Please correct your sentences since I can't read them, they are very broken and hard to comprehend. I guess you define intelligence and education a bit differently than I do.

  • @slarmas education ruins faith. god blocks his word to the highly educated. and keep the religion discussions off here.

  • @ahmednajim Everything doesn't need a reason, some things just simply are.

  • now people isn't this video make you think? who and how and why? the answer is grate god how create this earth. science is the tool to know more about god and how powerful is he. think people think cause this thinking will get you out of huge punishment and gives you new life in heaven.

  • @ahmednajim You sir are epic fail. There is no god and or gods (well maybe Eris, goddess of chaos and discord,) but seriously, caveman magic men and whatever. Nature is nature and the world is the world. Science is the tool we use to explain nature. There are no gods or goddesses, deprogram yourself..crap.

  • @slarmas "you sir are epic fail", fail.

  • @slarmas Whether there are gods, goddesses, supernatural phenomenons. We might never know. The world is a circle, no matter how far you travel, there is no answer.

  • @slarmas I agree worshipping god and religion are holy shit

  • @ahmednajim Let me give you a little clue: Electrons.

  • @AntiProtonBoy and who created the electrons?

  • @shakeycamerafilms don't be silly

  • @AntiProtonBoy no u!

  • @ahmednajim Do not mix spirituality with science. they do not mix well.

  • @Madevil8 au contraire. science is how you know your religion makes sense. and what good is a religion if it can be disproved by science. find a balance.⚡

  • @TheOtakuMAX I did not use the word "religion" only "spirituality. " I did it on purpose. Because despite the fact that spirituality and religion are closely linked, they are not the same. In my opinion.

  • @ahmednajim Please save religion for elsewhere. Religion is bronze-age. People needed to explain all the crazy stuff that happened around them. Science is not a deity's translator, it is explaining real nature.

  • @teeheegottagopee well it just explains "how" it doesnt explain "why", which is, by far, the more interesting question...

  • @ahmednajim I forgot to mention, that heaven is the result of fear of death, and the unknown. Not to rain on your magic parade, but nothing happens after you die. It's just void. You won't see naked babies with harps. And hell, on the other hand, is an excuse by desperate parents brainwashign their children to do well. I will end this as formally as possible. Fuck off.

  • i love lightning storms..

  • woohooo

    mother nature
