Hey, sounds good. It would be great if you upload it in 360p or higher for the better sound quality. I read somewhere that the mp3s for 240p are 60kbps, which is pretty bad.
I have one of this amps, and I wonder why the clean channel does not "crunch" (like, for example, the Blues Junior does) even if all knobs are set on 10. Is it normal for this amp or do I have to replace some tube?
very nice demo, jus wanted to add.. re speaker ... you don't have to remove the chassis to replace the speaker the baffle has two screws up top on both sides of the amp that allow the baffle to drop forward and then replace the speaker ... i used a jensen P12Q (love it ) very underrated amp i love playin backing tracks w/ my ipod through the RCA inputs too i also added the ability to use ext speaker cab, ,and also HAD to replace the plastic input jacks .. well worth it FANTASTIC tone! imho
Very nice playing and wonderful tone Sonicboy. I watched because someone has a red knob Champ12 for sale. From your info I am tempted to buy it and try similar mods. Once again good video.Cheers.
Great review! I cant stand all these idiots talking nonsense and using the cameras mic as opposed to doing something as simple as an SM57 straight up. I've been searching high and low for that small tube combo going back and fourth through used and new stuff but I keep coming back to fender and this review really makes me want this amp. Thanks again.
I just ordered 2 Weber Alnico Signature series for my HotRod Deville - this demo gives me a good feel that I have done the right thing - I changed the tubes to a combination of Sovtek/Mullard/Tung-Sol & JJ Teslas as recommended by Torres also - if my HRD sounds half as good as your amp I will be 'made up'.
Great playing too - I could listen to this over & over.
Thanks for the great demo. I own one of these amps from 1987 and fitted a Mesa Boogie Black Shadow in it at Mesa's recomendation and it's fantastic in all modes(overdrive and clean. A most underated amp and a cinch to change the tubes. One 6l6 gc and 2 12ax7's; what could be simpler) . I'll hang on to mine thank-you.
i have one of these amps. the overdrive channel isn't THAT bad. a good player can make it sound sweet. but i will agree that i have heard much better. lol.
Great clean sound. Both of my red knob Fenders ("The Twin" and Super 112) sound very good for clean duties. Under-rated amps, IMHO. My amps seem better suited to single-coil P/Us with those 12-inch speaker(s) and 6L6s,YMMV. Thanks for posting
Did you get the weber signiture alnico 12s 25w speaker? If so how is the quality of this speaker itself? What tonal changes occured when you put it in?
Yep. The speaker seems to be very well put together and doesn't fart too much when driven hard. I'm sure there are better Alnicos, but for $45 it's great. The tone changes seemed to be a softer treble, more prominent mids, and less bass. Tight and focused would be my buzzwords. There was also more speaker breakup, which isn't a bad thing.
There's a subtle effect on the attack/tone with alnico magnets that doesn't happen with ceramic.
A 7 oz plug magnet will not give you much volume but I bet your tone is sweeter. There are great choices out there now for those with a little money, there's Eminence's new alnico 12's,Warehouse speaker has a *killer* blue knock off,Weber of course has some nice alnico speakers.
I've got a late 70s Musicmaster Bass amp. It's pretty close to a Champ, but with a 12". I think I'll try this speaker. Right now it's got a Fender ceramic thing in there.

Very sweet sounding amp. Great video too. Nice playing on "My Favorite Things."
The 335 sounds perfect. I would use this amp for some sweet jazz tones, it's not a stereotypical sound.
And yeah, Sonic Youth is the sh*t. I dig them.

That is a nice, well done demo, with class.

you said you changed a midrange resistor to make the amp sound less "small"... why is that?

Thanks-- A really helpful demo.
For future reference: SUMMARY not "summery"

Great demo. Simple basic playing, good documentation and comments, and most important... no talking! This should be the standard for all demos.

Great sound with single coils, I had forgotten how good this amp can sound with a good guitarist behind it.

Quick question... Did you have any trouble fitting that speaker?
gen0x 3 years ago
Nope - had to take the chassis out to get at the baffle, but replacing the speaker probably took 10 minutes total.

Very nice DuoSonicBoy. Most players on YT thrash out distortion. You are a real player and the amp sounds great! Beautiful picking.
