Hey guys, I know we're all extremely agitated after having to sit through over 2 and a half minutes of credits at the beginning, but please refrain from such profanity. As a consequence of your immature comment, I've been traumatized by the mental image of @TheLVB1827 's "shrimp richard" to the extent that I may have to seek psychological counseling. Consider this a mild to moderate warning. Further violations could damage our friendship, perhaps beyond repair.
Wonderful. Spine-tingling. A window to the ballet past we all hold so dear, and also to the choreography of Vaslav Nijinsky, rightly beloved and mourned to this day. His genius will never die. His loss was a grievous one, and the loss of ballet and all he knew a far greater loss to the man himself, when he fell ill. Thank you for this! Thank you so much.
The reaction to this in 1913 must have been amazing, I wish I would have been there!! If you get a chance to see " Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky" I highly urge you to do so!!!
Image this ballet in 1913, when people expected ballets like Swanlake or the Nutcracker. With beautiful movements and pink tutu's. And then you get this ballet! AMAZING! I adore Diaghilev, Nijinsky & Stravinsky. This is what art is all about.
I've watched this performance several times now and each time I am overwhelmed by how powerful and beautiful this piece really is. Thank you again for sharing.
The costuming was so fantastic in this production. All from the originals. Saw this at sold out performance at the San Francisco Opera House. It was one of the most spellbinding theatrical performances I've ever been to. Nothing has ever even come close to seeing these dancers and the fantastic music of Stravinsky.
@korikafez because the music and the dancing was so different then what people thought ballet should be. you can hear and see the music and choreography is very jerky and isnt smooth and graceful like other ballets.
@wicked4ever62442 Thank you, wicked4ever, for clearing that up for me. I'm glad I found this; I was a bit confused over which was the original choregraphy for the play when I saw one of the videos in the recommendations column (that other video was hedonism and pelvic thrusts -excuse my redundancy, heheh). This one video was something I truly haven't seen. I'm amazed no one fell.
thank you so much for this clear picture version! I've never seen it with this clarity, even in the DVD and old VHS version that I had. great to see the costumes and movements with such clarity.
@Terrapin9614 I don't even remember where it came from! But I am very glad I have it. I'm going to suggest you grab it for yourself. I keep getting in trouble with YouTube. So...carry the torch if you can...
@jojokerus I was lucky to get it. I've been working on finding a good copy of Teatro d'ell Opera di Roma. I'll post it if I can ever get it. The 100th anniversary is two years from tomorrow so many companies will do the ballet and more video will become available. It requires a huge orchestra and really good dancers. The Marinsky DVD is proof that sleepwalking though Nijinsky is not a good idea...
I was lucky to find it. I am looking for a video of the Paris Opera Ballet from the early 90's with Marie-Claude Pietragalla dancing the Chose One role. I think it may be impossible.

What are the girls in blue meant to represent? The red ones are the typical ones, while the ones with the hats are high priestesses I presume
