i think they used 6 string guitars, but 7 string sets; dont use high E. when i saw them, they had think strings and only 6 tuning knobs. but correect me if im wrong

I myself play 10's of whichever brand I feel like buying at the time. I might go higher because my style of playing has changed over the past year to being more rhythm oriented. The leads still sound much the same, but the benefits of a higher gauge string is also less breakage when you do wail on it.

I mostly play original stuff I write. I'm also a drummer and a bassist. Unfortunately I am an apartment dweller, so my drumming is usually when I can get studio time to jam with people. I do play some Death, Nevermore, Opeth, and some other random stuff like Arcturus and Borknagar and Enslaved. I don't try to limit myself in the style necessarily, but being Norwegian descent, I tend to gravitate to Scandinavian stuff. I do like groove type metal like Six Feet Under.

Arkona sounds pretty good. I just listened to them after I read this comment. I like some folk stuff but really tend to avoid the overly folk stuff like Finntroll. I myself like original folk stuff with very ambient tones.

i really like celtic and scandinavian folk music, so i tend to lean toward that genre often. but almost no band is better than bathory!!
