  • jools is a twat!they have more influence than he will ever have

  • still not quite the same without jerry, rico and dick

  • One of the biggest bands out of this country. Shame about the J Dammers thing, but there you go, that's showbiz.........

  • J.Dammers get the finger out fone yer ex bandmates - YOUR THE MAN WHO MADE 2 TONE ;) x

  • Lay off Jools Holland! This is a delightful interview, and he (and the 3 Specials) handled the difficult Dammers part very well. This is not rehearsed.

  • Happy Birthday, Sir Horace Gentleman, and many more to you!

  • Freeze on 40 seconds, Terrys son Felix in the background looking like a chip off the old block.

  • @MrCorfuz that explains it... thought i was seeing things!

  • Jools is a legend !

    And you are an idiot.

  • Jerry dammers a true legend !

    This isn't the specials.

  • I like Jools, I like his show, I like the bands he has on it (usually), but he sure comes off as an idiot sometimes.

  • WtF is Lynval high WTF has the ANSWER: The last time we were together was at the BBC so we figured it would be best if we came back to BBC?? when the QUESTION WAS: Why have a reunion now?

  • Notice how the guy in the background behind Horace looks just like a young Terry Hall...

  • its terrys son

  • @lurholm EXACTLY.........Maybe it his illegitimite son.

  • the specials are not special without Jerry Dammers

  • why the fuck do ya even care not like it affects you directly and if if does its only because you allow it

  • @savechristianityinuk Christian rock ROCKS ! nuns on heat...nothing like a good rogering with a catholic priest...Bill Clinton plays the saxophone and Monica helped him put his tool back into his case...Barak'O doesn't play anything as far as I know

  • good to see that Neville's not blond anymore like he was in the 90's hah

  • Judging by Horace saying "We tired it with Jerry but it didn't work out" I have a feeling Dammers would have tried to bring some new and original ideas to it to freshen it up. Knowing Dammers genius but the band probably wanted the standard greatest hits type tour which would probably go down better with the 30 something 40 something fans. You can understand both sides. - I could be talking out of my arse of course!

  • @kitch77 That's the thing. Jerry Dammers did not want a 'nostalgia act', he wanted to add new material about what was going on today. I am seeing the Specials tomorrow night and though in my heart, it's not really the Specials without Jerry, I missed them the first time around and determined not to let this opportunity skank on by.

  • @kitch77 Not at all dude, you are talking sense

  • @kitch77 Similarly, Jerry produces great work on his own but imagine if he was able to resolve the conflicts, work with his old bandmates and everyone reached a happy compromise, creatively?

  • Terry just can't win. When he's interviewed, he's accused of hogging the spotlight. When he sits out, people claim it's 'cos he "wanted to be anywhere but there."

  • i like how jools holland (and vice versa)makes out he doesnt know them for interview land sake!i mean jerry dammers rang him lol!i think hes just tyrna be kind to younger viewers to give a tiny insight into probably one of the most influtntual bands ever!

  • Terrible interview, shame really

  • @SagasRightPeg There was something very wrong here. Don't get me wrong they sounded great but Terry Hall wasn't him self i.e. always in the background (It was like he had flu or something).. Was it a that Dammers was missing?

  • BORING

  • Don't get me wrong.

    I loved The Specials.

Loved Terry Hall's input, in particular.

But Jools Holland's gradual slide into indifference and then boredom echo's my own.

Terry wanted to be anywhere other than there (not interviewed, you notice).

Jools wanted to be anywhere other than there (and this is his job - interviewing, at which he's generally good.

Heck, I wanted to be anywhere but there and I'm only watching on YouTube.

  • 'I've gone to the States to support Barack Obama!! WTF!!

  • What is Terrys problem?, he seems to have trouble interacting with people, even on stage (audience)

  • @AMBASSODOR It's called "artistic pretense".....doesn't matter ....the bands great anyway.

  • Fuck this 80's revival, Jerry Dammers had values, these pratts don't, they were put back together by the same vulture who got Duran Duran and all of those other gits back together. ££££££££

  • Duran Duran never broke up.

  • They should have...........

  • on another point i bet terry knew that jool will be asking them about jerry so that's the reason why he didnt sit in the interview.

  • I think for the sake of their fan's they should give n take and just get everybody back in the band...get Rico n Dick and jerry and rhonda too just for the history books now that would be bloody SPECIAL!!

  • MADALANMAC I agree...but i did enjoy that in the studio album though...it had a few jams on that lp but it would b kool 2 c an a.k.a. reunion...but life is short,if u have a chance 2 reunite than u should take that chance because you don't know what you've got til' it's gone so yeah jerry stop being a wanker!....

    -JonnyGo!

  • If Jerry is really that bothered, maybe he should have a chat with Stan Campbell, Dick, Rhoda, Gary, etc and plead with Brad to join him in an AKA tour in 5 years to mark their 30th anniversary.

Mind you, In the Studio wasn't really a great piece of work and I doubt there would be anywhere near the interest. That album dated faster than the Sinclair C5. lol

You've missed out on a chance to be rightly worshipped Mr D. A real shame!!!

  • Going to see them in Glasgow next week. Not in the least bit bothered that JD isn't there as he does nothing but wind the others up. Grow up Jerry. This was meant to be a celebration of The Specials and all you've done is tarnish it with your petty bitterness. Shame!

As for new material. Don't think it will happen but it would be great if it did. The guys should take a leaf out of Madness' book. Norton Folgate is a masterpiece. Could The Specials match it? Hmmmmmmm!!! Would be nice to find out.

  • 3:12 looks like a young terry hall.

  • It's his son

  • that's brilliant, looks just like him with the same bored/can't be bothered look on his face

  • Met Terry Halls sons, Felix and Theo I think at the Sunday gig in Brum. Good lads tbh.

    Excellent gig.

  • Lynval has lived in Seattle for quite awhile - long before Obama was running for president. While I'll admit the Obama comment is a little odd/out of context, no one with half a brain would think that he was actually trying to take credit for Obama's election and he said NOTHING about skin color. I don't think Lyn, Nev & Horace are the ones with their heads up their arse.

  • he did say first black p........

  • Well, I'll give you that - but I don't think Lynval meant that the only reason he wanted Obama to become president was because he's black. Anything I've heard about Lynval is that he's one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people you could ever meet. I find Bundesrats comment really odious. Can't be much of a Specials fan - that's for sure.

  • Who does Lynval Golding think he is? He basically admitted he went over to America with all his money to get Obama in because of his colour. And as if he really made a difference. Horace seems a bit up his own arse too. Shame because I absolutely love this band. My band played with Neville Staple a while ago, who was equally up his own arse.

    However the music is awesome!

  • I worked at the gigs in Brum on sat and Sunday, doing the merch. We met Neville, Roddy and Brad, as well as Terry's sons and his girlfriend. Without exception they were all sound people, not one of them up anything in the slightest.

As a fan way back in the day this was one of the best things about the gig, the fact that they were all top people, not pretentious in the slightest.

  • It's definitely still the good old specials!

  • Definately bad blood between Jerry and the rest of the band, especially if it seems he is even against them even being called The Specials. Yes he is missing out but to me it is not essential him being there. A new album please guys.

  • If you want a relevant new album, then Jerry IS essential, I think.

  • Jerry is NOT the band, The other members wrote some of the songs and all played there own part in them songs.

I'm looking forward to the gigs, shame Jerry isn't because HE is missing out bigtime.

  • God that interview makes me cringe. What is Lynval on about with Obama? Jerry is the only one of them with a brain!

It's NOT The Specials without him.

  • cant agree with you bud,, think he was undoubtly an important part , but was only a part, ,,think its amazing that theyre back,. cant wait to see em again after all this time

  • I know there's still epic friction among the band and especially with Jerry but it seems kind of wrong without him :(
