Three questions:

1) isn't the hero supposed to be a pilot for a single-seat fighter, and not the Yamato itself?

2) Is this a single movie, wherein they cram the whole season's worth of stories into 2 hours? Or is this an opening part of a trilogy/series?

I can answer the first question.

Kodai Susumu (Or Derick Wildstar in Starblazers) is the combat chief of the Yamato as well as the pilot of the Cosmo Zero. So he's Yamato's gunner, not its pilot.

And if you watch the clip closely, he's not piloting the Yamato, he's prepping to fire the Wave Motion Gun ... dark glasses in one shot, the targetting display in another. Cannot wait for this to hit the States!!!

Looks perfect. I even matched it up to the second episode of Yamato and it was nearly identical. Love how Takuya has Kodais swagger. Love the outfits. My only complaint is that Okita;s beard kinda looks fake. But this is far more then what I was expecting. Hell I just want to see the big girl in action.

Good things do come to those who wait! I have been a fan since 1979. Many people don't know that Yamato/Star Blazers pre-dates Star Wars. There is a certain fascination and aesthetic appeal to spaceships that resemble WWII warships. Glad Disney didn't do this one.

@Da5thSith. Definitely, a Disney version would have been a disaster, at least as far as Space Battleship Yamato is concerned. The reason why American shows add twists to them is because Hollywood is full of politically correct sissies, who should not be listened to. Just my opinion.

I just thank God that Disney lost out on it. I got a copy of the script they were thinking about........UGH. Not only were they thinking of having the ship the AZ instead of the Yamato but it SCREAMED Star Wars storyline complete with the Deslock villian "spinning out of control away from the big explosion.....maybe they were going to name him "Darth Deslock" to complete the infringement.

Could only IMAGINE how many songs they wanted to put in too!
