Just one question: you're wildlife rehab efforts are admirable, but if you're releasng these squirrels back into the wild when they're old enough, why are you touching, holding, and playing with them? Shouldn't they learn to be afraid of us humans, for their and our sake?
@threeby8887 Good question. All babies (human and non-human)need nurturing for emotional development.
Once babies are fully weaned, they are put in pre-release cages with natural foods and environmental things (tree branches, dirt to bury nuts etc.) and very little human contact. They "wild up" real fast! Then they are "soft" released which means they are released where they can be supplementally fed while they learn "the ropes"
Normally at the rehab center we didn't name the ones we raise and released (we both get too attached!) Sometimes we put little dots of non toxic paint on them to tell who was who. That helped to know who had and hadn't been fed:)
We have possums and something called a 'squirrel glider' which is pretty much a flying possum lol but no actual squirrels. We don't have chipmunks or raccoons or skunks either. Nothing cool. Just kangaroos that try to drown people lol.
baby squirrels are the cudliest animals i've ever come in contact with. Mine cuddled with me all day. And he squeaks and tries to find me if i set him on the floor.
when he finds me, he runs up my leg and tries to snuggle into my arm.
You are so cool! Those little guys are so cute. I've worked with animals for around nine years (in a veterinary hospital setting). I've fostered orphan kittens. I'd love to give wildlife rehab a shot...it must be so rewarding.
You should try it! See if there is a rehab center near or check with your local wildlife organization to see how to get a license. You would love it:)
I worked at a wildlife rehabilitation center where I raised and released many orphan squirrels. Check your area where you can help at a wildlife center!
Check out my latest video on squirrels...they are very cute as well:)
we found...2, no..I think 3 baby Squirrell's outside once in the middle of November...They did'nt have any fur and their eyes were still closed, And they were pink...My dad almost ran over the 3rd one but it Died...The two we had left were a boy annd a girl, The girl I got to take care of...I asked my mom where it was and she Told me it Died...The last one we gave to another person who Had been raising Squirrell's...
i got a baby squizz aswell, they r brilliant this will be my 4th one that ive hand-reared, its a fantastic job, i do all sorts of wildlife mainly birds. I rear mine using a animal bottle with milk in, its easier than a syringe or pipette. good job courdeleon, well done!
i soooo wish i could do that! i love animals especially squireels, and id do anything to just hold one. if i could raise a baby squirrel, itd be the best thing in my life!!!
OMG So cute! I had a baby skwerl 2 summers ago that I raised until he was old enough to move out. They are such lovely babies. I hope I get another this summer.

Squirrels will raid bird's nests and commit acts of predation. Squirrels can kill the young birds with a powerful bite to the neck. A squirrel raised in captivity will usually turn upon its human host and launch a viscious attack design to inflict severe injury or death.
you need an education. Yes squirrels do occationaly raid birds nest, that is what the wild is all about. Lions eat cute gazelles too! These squirrels were released not kept as pets. Orphans raised in captivity and kept as pets because of a disability rarely if ever turn on their caregivers &
NEVER cause death. If you can't say nice things go to sites you like!
i'm raising a baby squirrel right now and i raised another one a long time ago. i feed it out of a bottle and of course it comes out of its nose sometimes. and it sneezes a lot. but when it sniffs around it sounds like its snorting or something...im worried. do u think its okay??
It depends how old it is. With a very young squirrel that can be dangerous. They can get milk in the lungs and die. But if you gently turn them upside down and dap the milk coming out their nose with a towel you can prevent this. If milk comes out their nose they are either drinking too fast or the hole in the nipple is too big. It can be very difficult. Good Luck!
shes about 6 weeks im guessing. ive read the age descriptions on websites. her eyes are open and ears r starting to open. yeah she drinks too fast...the hole in the nipple is very tiny so we have to put a little pressure on the bottle. so do u think it can be deadly w/ her age? :(
My guess is that if she has been doing this and is still alive she should be ok. Just try to not to squeeze the milk out too much and turn her upside down and dab her nose of the drainage of milk whenever it does come out her nose. Sure hopes she makes it. You might check to see if there is a wildlife rehabber near. There is a long process of weaning and teaching them survival skills in order to set her back into the wild.
Great video. Just love to baby squirrels. & yes a squirrels would die out in the extreme cold, Especially if it's neat got distroyed & it had no place available to stay warm. That's waht happened when they knocked a house down next door to me in the middle of winter.
Just to let you know, she was released last year and I still see her occationally in the woods....doing just fine! What you don't understand is all babies need nurturing at first but then they are weaned of humans and do quite well in the wild. I have raised and released many with great success.
