Cantonese has too many 'syllabic' differences to fit well with this song. It's not bad, it's just odd to hear. On a personal note, it sounds a LOT harder than Mandarin...I'd be screwed learning this...o.O

To all the people asking about difference between Mandarin and Cantonese, imagine someone uniting all of Europe and set English as the only English taught in schools and seen on TV. French, Italian, Spanish, German etc would still exist but only in their local regions where people speak them. Nationally they speak with English, and internationally only English is recognized as a proper language in the great nation of Europe. And like Mandarin, English is a much newer language.

the japanese characters who are originally of the chinese have the same meaning in both languages?

example in 0:30 the last character 日 in japanese means day and in chinese?

0:37 上 means "up" like in japanese

in 0:46 the 4th 5th and 6th characters are numbers in japanese, in chinese too?

or the 3rd character in 1:02 "天" means sky?

and the 6th "地" means ground?

@sacopix I'm studying Japanese now and I know Chinese. I'd say 90% of the Kanji compounds are exactly the same meaning as their Mandarin counterparts, albeit pronounced closer to Cantonese. The other 10% are either ancient Chinese that have fallen out of use or slightly different meanings.

Cantonese is certainly more powerful than Mandarin--at least-- for this particular song, as Cantonese preserved the use of stop consonants-- and as Wikipedia says, "[stop consonants] in Cantonese has retained its short and sharp character."

To be frank, even now I cannot reconstruct the Cantonese lyrics in entirety as the lyrics were in many places off-tone...

In addition, I've written an alternative Cantonese lyrics for this song and considered that more literally accurate that this one.

I want to try and hear Cantonese dialect in a movie or conversation, maybe a comedy. I'm learning Mandarin right now in Taiwanese dialect and I want to hear the difference.

yeah, Cantonese's a pretty harsh language, also not very fitting for such avant-garde. But it can sound nice. check out the video on high school musical Everyday Hong Kong version. I personally think Cantonese can sound very good provided it's got the right medium of music. The Diocesan Girls' Choir also did a good job in making Cantonese sound good on this song in Cantonese: 只有和声.

in about 500 years ago, Cantonese is still the official language of all Chinese. But it has been change while Ching dynasty, in actually mandarin just is the language of Manchurian.

No, Cantonese is closer to Old Chinese and is more slightly ancient chronologically, as exemplified by its preservations of more tones and consonants. Think of it as Spanish or Italian, languages that preserved more of the way Latin sounded. Whereas Mandarin has lost 5 tones and the only stop consonants left is "n" and "ng." It's more like French, which is latin with a celt-germanic accent and lost most word-final consonants due to most of them being silent.

this is a good version. the translation isn't perfect but much better than the mandarin one imo. it brings out much more of the feeling of the original. I wasn't expecting much as Chinese is such a completely different language but I was pleasantly surprise.

In my opinion the leads put more force than is necessary on the words.  It slows down the beat and isn't really necessary for the language. Otherwise, it's great. My life wouldn't have been complete without hearing this.

I love this song. I'm so glad I'm finaly hearing the Cantonese version. Thanks. This version just totally blew me away. I realy can't even describe it. I still love Cantonese Moses. Ramases has a great voice too. It's very evil. And I thik this version has the best ending. In some versions, Moses overpowers Ramases. Ramases overpowers Moses in some versions. There are even some versions were the chorous overpowers both of them. But it's all perfect here.
