maybe little dickhead will discuss his pizza and where he got it from to demonstrate a typical Communicative task! The Doctor still has half of his pizza left, maybe it's late at night so they got the pizza delivery person to then get involved in an exampler Communicative exercise with the students.
God his little measly bites are really annoying, chink

Humans, no matter what age, learn through imitation... not through lecture. Not everyone is as dedicated as you... so if you're a realistic educator you seek to engage all students... even the ones who'd rather disrespectfully eat pizza.. Don't miss the point (which is simply) PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH (explicit directions are less effective than implicit modelling... even with college students)... idealogy vs pragmatism; take your pick and see which works better
I have definately learned a lot from your video, dont pay to much attention to the negative comments. Thank You for sharing your knowledge. I look forward to anymore videos you might share.
Is it not ironic (despite that he's teaching pedagogy, not language) that Dr. Hubbard is teaching in an extrememly explicit and boring, non-communicative way? Were he actually modelling this approach to SLT, taking a facilitator/guide role rather than robotic lecturer, he would actually be honoring the approach he advocates for... and probably find that theres absolutely no time for students to take a bite of their pizza! (mm it looks delicious)
Sorry, disagree. Different altogether. He's an excellent expositor of some fairly high-level ideas. All these Sts have to do is listen, take adequate notes (a study skill), seek the relevant references after the seminar, and then do their own research. The teaching approach he's explaining is mainly (not exclusively) intended to increase the efficiency of second language acquisition, not to get pizza-eating undergrads an easy degree (which it most certainly wouldn't in any case).

@garissonangel I dont get the point on YOUR shittyanswer just in case you dont remember what you told me.. u said "An interesting point, especially because you make no sense at all. Maybe you should study less!" I dont know why thehell u criticise my idea... maybe my idea was not clear... but i said the same as u said in your other comment.. that they should put all that knowledge and theory in other context, just communication. but whatever think whatever u want dude
apart from the pizza episode .. we ( in argentina) are trying to implement it .. its pathetic to see english teachers "teaching" english basing their classes just in one book without any context or connection with reality .. I had to study all this and a lot more , including Krashen's monitor model and everything for my last exam , I am in my sencond year at The National University, and fortunately we will change the picture for the students.. Language (any) is for communication..
Thats why there is a difference between learning a langauge and acquiring a langauge. Accoding to the Monitor Theory both cannot interact, That's why the audiolingual method was abandoned!
I think theres no problem with the pizza. they should have had a moment to share the pizza and that's good! It helps students get to know each other and make them feel more comfortable. All of them are paying attention because the class is very interesting. That's the most important thing!!
hes a student....what does that have to do with professionalism? if you notice, there is pizza boxes all over the class so i dont think hes the only one
aaaah stop munching on the pizza!!

What a tedious presentation. Can't the students read this in their own time & meet to do something more involving? Go on, close your books!

@maryruth49 the only thing i can agree with is that pizza makes students more comortable, but the rest seems to be somewhat silly.
"It helps students get to know each other" - in what way ? students may learn in what manner others eat pizza is all.
"All of them are paying attention" - oh come on! do you really think they are paying attention with so many distractors around? pc, coffee, pizza ...
besides, what's the pleasure of eating a pizza durign classes?
cheerio ^_^
