Weve just come back from Meeru after staying in the Jacuzzi Water Villas, we had bad wind and rain for a full week and that was scary enough being stuck in one of those, id have had heart failure if id been in there !!
DAMB, iv just left meeru, the honey moon suite is basicly on stilts. u have to go on a boat to get to it so u guys were stranded, and its about 10 foot up so the waves must of been 11 foot. scary stuff
Oh my god - were you okay? Did you realise what was happening - I don't think I would have realised the true extent of what was happening and the danger? What happened after the video?
wow me and my husband went there for our honeymoon in dec new yr 07/08 we got upgraded for the last 3 nights for free in the honeymoon suite it was fab wow but how horrifying watching after we have stayed in there, it still needed a bit of updating and the dony wasnt good after a few vodkas but they have done so well to recover from this disaster, love those guys they are the best. meeru i highly recommend, paradise x
OMG! That must have been terrifying. I can only imagine what that person was thinking. "What is happening?" "What if the water got higher?" "What if this hut collapsed?" "Im going to die!" YIKES. I would love to hear this person's story.
That's fucking terrifying. Most of the footage I've seen looks like not as bad(obviously untrue with nearly 300,000 deaths) but this shows you how it really looked like.
he was lucky, where i was the doors smashed open in seconds, and guests were swept thru huge glass windows, causing lots of horrible injuries, due to news blackout the full horror of the tsunami was never fully reported in the worlds media

I agree with you. Somehow, I was expecting the doors to give way any moment. I can't believe that the person still continued filming with the tsunami pounding at his doors! Was that bravery, or foolishness? My mind is torn.
thanks for sharing and im glad you got out with your lives, i lost a friend there and its taken till now for me to be able to look at what it was really like! I cant imagine being there and the power of the ocean scares me! All those people who lost thier lives didnt stand a chance! And now another one just hit Indonesia, more deaths! God bless those people!
There needs to be more media coverage of what is happening on this tiny island. People who visit the Maldives are steered away from it's reality. A dictatorship is still a dictatorship even when it is hidden by tourism. No one is allowed to voice their opinion and if they do they "disappear" sometimes forever. Still want to visit..?
believe me, this video was only a fraction of what really went on during the tsunami. we hung on to trees, roofs and poles as the waves smashed everything, windows, walls, doors, and jetties to pieces.
This is actually one of the better videos depicting some effects of the tsunami and it's one not often seen. (In fact, it's completely new to me.) Makes you feel more like you were there than many other of the tsunami videos. Thanks for sharing it! (I hope the people got out O.K.)
Quick!! Save the Macbook!!!

How do you book a vacation there? How do you get there? What's the price? Those waves look awfully fun...

Why did you go to Maldives at this time? This is the rainy season.

how sad, i stayed in the honeymoon villa in 2002 and is so high off the floor that must of been scary-such a lovely place.
agreed with metom999-only a boat can get you there, so for it to get in via the veranda-speechless
