You wake up and you're dying... You don't even know what from... (...)
But what they asked, baby, wasn't right... you didn't have to live that live (...)
Once I dreamt we were together again, baby you and me, back in those old clubs, the way we used to be... (...) and as I pulled you tigher I swore I'll never let you go...
Alright Boss fans, SOMEONE out there has a copy of an actual promo-type video filmed for this haunting song. I've seen it, but it seems to have disappeared in the last couple of years. ANY help appreciated - I want that video!!!!
This song takes on tragic proportions. I've known that girl in the shadows, who turned away as I called her name. No body hits you with the truth, like my brother Bruce.
I'm going to Jersey to see Bruce from CA, some people think I'm crazy..they don't get it....the passion..the emotions....speechless...I hope he plays this song
the world is divided betwenn those who like him and those that at least once in a life have been to a concert...this is not mine but you know it's so TRUE.
I think this song would have been more powerful if Bruce sang it playing piano. On the Rising tour tours he would play Incident on 57th Street and songs like For You on piano. I think this song falls into that category.
He's done it before. He would use electric piano for "Point Blank" during the D&D tour. It was good, but I happen to like the band version more. Just my opinion
Sadly I have to agree with you on that.I have been a fan for 28 years, but you gotta give Bruce credit where it's due.He still puts on one heck of a show.Saw him in Hershey last summer.Just Awesome! I love ya Bruce :)
@hajo1221 You must not know Bruce - he will NEVER lose his ability to write songs like these. He's been at it for over 35 years and still does it well.
Is Clarence a n_____ as you put it? I am actually not a huge fan of rap, but I think Bruce is trying to act current by doing the hand movements. I have followed Bruce's career my whole life and I know for a fact that he did not do those hand movements in the late 70's and early 80's.
I think lofgren is a magical musician eisenhalter, I saw him at the Bottom Line in NYC, before it closed, and he was so "real" my boyfriend was in tears at the end of the show.
Bruce is the best artist ever, period. Either you hate him or love him but I sure as hell love him! If it just impossible to point out a single song as being one's favourite. I have at least 50 songs that could go for the no.1 position. He's rushing the words btw...
I saw him deliver the song in San Diego while sitting on a tall stool in 1981, and it was PLENTY powerful

It's funny how it doesn't matter that Bruce or Dylan can't sing well. The songs just reach out and grab your soul.

"Once I dreamed we were together again, Baby you and me,
back in the old clubs the way we used to be.
We were standing at the bar, it was hard to hear.
The band was playing loud, and you were shouting in my ear.
You pulled my jacket off as the drummer counted 4.
You grabbed my hand and pulled me out on the floor.
You stood there and you started dancing slow, and as I pulled you tight I swore I'd never let you go."
Simply brilliant and heartbreaking.
