  • What I would gave given to be sitting in that room....sigh....

  • If I can't listen to the legends, I just don't listen to country at all.

  • Gosh, this so great, we need more of this.

  • gene is the best

  • These songs always bring out the emotional side of me. Lynn Anderson was crying too. Anybody else tear up, to this song. lol oh my.

  • Just heard Elvis sing this on my XM radio station but still love this version better...Way to go guys...wish I could see you perform someday...either together or in separate venues..My "bucket list"..

  • Good one- they're all having fun and I'm enjoying it too

  • Just doesn't get any better than this.

  • if anyone has larry gatlin song called if i never see you or utah again please post

  • THANKK U SO MUCH, I LOOK AROUND THAT ROOM AND C SO MJANY COUNTRY GREATS, NO LONGER HAVE TALENT LIKE THAT

  • these are the two most under rated country male vocalist of all times!

  • Amber Digby cover this song recently. Although I love Amber it's impossible to top this version. Or the original by Larry for that matter...

  • this is the be all and depend all. if you don't understand,, it does'nt get any better.

  • Just a reminder and wake up call to Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker, Zack Brown and many more pretenders. This is country music. Not what you profess to do. Take a lesson and then come back and try again. These two are ledgends. Deserved.

  • @starr522 look at the other faces. they feel the magic.

  • @brenda7734 Yes they do feel the magic. And may I add, the respect that artist of that era had and felt for one another is what Country is about. It' s a pure feeling.

  • @starr522 THANK YOU MUCHLY:).

This IS Country Music Trashvile is NOT playing Country anymore other than what is shown on RFD TV the ONLY place to wathc REAL Country Music, the little Bimbos and stud muffins are POP SINGERS Nothing more Sorry kiddies NOT Country Music,. It about what they look like anymore NOT talent Little Jimmy Dickens wouldn't have a chance neither would Hank williams or Patsy Cline,,,,

  • @starr522 So well said

  • Two of the greatest voices in country music history!

  • @SnowflakeSparkles26 absolutely agree, I like how they switch lead and harmony back and forth; you can tell they have great friendship/chemistry....

  • I have seen that "passion" in 1 other modern singer..... his name, "Kevin Skinner". 50 years from now hope he stil has this passion.

  • I like Gene Watson and I like his singing. Nothing as good as a great country ballad singer.

  • LOVE THESE GUYS WISH I HAD BEEN THERE

  • what a line..."it's over and undone"---not over and done..over and UNDONE---beyond ever existing..powerful statement.

  • This was super Gene... just a great job... always love you...

  • GREAT.

  • What a great video! It has two of my favorites! Gene Watson has always been one of my favorite singers. He can sing all the chords. I also see Mike Johnson in the background. He's one of my favorite steel guitar players!

  • elvis did a great version of this son 1976

  • I miss the Nashville Network. Can' t see this anymore. The respect that these talents gave each other was wonderfull.

  • I don't think anyone could Top this version; I Love It !

  • Love this song. I have both Larry's and Gene's CDs of this song. I prefer Gene's version simply because he is the best singer around. Thanks for posting.

  • Who is the blonde laughing on the right side about two thirds through??

  • Jeannie Seely is correct

  • Being real serious and respectful. After watching last night's MCA Awards show, Country music is a freaking joke., Taylor Swift may be a nice cute kid but she ain' t country. Daruis Rucker. Get the fuck real. He has tried and failed at every jondreau of music but what he did with the Blowfish and even that got old. It all sounded the same. What you have just watched is what country music is about. Damn, Damn, Damn Bring country music back. PLEASE

  • What is a "jondreau?" I know what a genre is but I'm unfamiliar with the word you used.

  • It is a slang expression. Means someone that has tried to join so many different groups and styles to fit, but has been rejected by all.

  • Great Duet of a 70's Elvis Classic number ! Good job Larry & Gene !

  • Larry wrote this song. Elvis did it and did it well, but it's Larry's song.

  • These guys are GREAT! While Gene Watson is one of my all time favorites, Larry Gatlin remains as one of the best vocalists ever. I've never felt he got the recognition he deserves for his unique voice and terrific song writing.

  • Noticed in the background that after Larry asked Gene if he knew the words he said, "I'll probably have to sing it in A Minor. Larry immediately changed the chord he was playing to A Minor. A subtle difference but awesome musicianship from Larry.

  • has he ever sounded better? gene's voice has not changed since I listened to him when I got my first divorce or was it my fifth, o well it's just a number. He will always be my # 1

  • Would love to see a video of Gene's "When A Man Can't Get A Woman Off His Mind " love that song another great classic !

  • LeeAnn Womack said, " In my Dad's eyes, I hadn't made it in country music until now: I've sung with Gene Watson. How true !!!!

  • FANTASTIC

  • Wow, I haven't seen Larry Gatlin in years - guess I was expecting him to look like he used to. Of course I don't look like I did 20 years ago either! Great song and two super great singers - will be listening again & again. Thanks ramey58 for sending this my way! - Gini

  • same here,,, its awesome reall country music/sound

  • This was from the old Nashville Network. Damn I miss this stuff

  • Actually it isn't, these shows can be seen on RFDTV.

  • Thanks for the info. Good help

  • these 2 sound awesome together,,,,, larry is missed on the radio thats for sure, what a true country sound, as with gene,i am lovign this

  • its 3 am and im still watching these videos:) awesome ty for post

  • Retraction, I just googled farewell party, Gene wrote it. So he too was an exellent writer. Lesson learned, look before you leap.

  • lol :-)

  • No need to retract :) Gene Watson didn't write this. It was written by Singer-songwriter Lawton Williams, whose Top 10 compositions include Bobby Helms' "Fraulein" and Gene Watson's "Farewell Party," Williams, 85, died about 2 ?? years ago. The song was first recorded by Little jimmy Dickens. This info is referenced in this video when Gene sings Farewell Party.

  • I Should have said Gene didn't write "Farewell Party"

An Interesting tidbit...Another part in the video has the writer of "He stopped Loving Her Today" (Bobby Braddock) answering the question "Was he bothered by people thinking that George Jones wrote that song. He said no - that he didn't even realize what he had until he heard george jones sing it...Cool videos on RFD tv.

  • @chelsblu

    100% correct

  • Both have a voice worth killing for, Gene is the preference I think for country artists, I like Larry because he is a masterful writer as well as singer.

  • A lesson worth learning; especially if you are a general in a swamp and a canine besides.

  • I actually prefer Gene singing this song to Larry. Wish I could find another version without all the background calling!

  • Gene Watson & the Farewell Party Band will be doing a concert on Sept 02-2009 in Colborne,Ontario,CANADA

    I'll be there !!!!!

    Mitzi

  • I'm jealous ... wish Gene would do a tour to Australia , ah I can only live in hope ....

  • You sure you like this one, friend?

  • Great song thank you !

  • Hi Mark;

    Mitzi

  • Could you send me the details? I may go also. Mark

  • I just noticed that Gene said he would need to do it in A Minor. Then Larry changed the chord he was playing. AWESOME!

  • This is singing at its very best. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Amazing !

  • Country Music at it's " FINEST ".

Two of the all time greats together.

  • Wonderful! ...the chemistry is great between these two! harmonies are awesome and the steel complements you both ....just wonderful! ..will play this clip often !

  • psglicks, you used the correct spelling for "complements" in that context; I'm impressed. Mark

  • Comment removed

  • Great post! What a treat it would have been to be there with these legends.

  • I just now noticed that the steel guitar player stands up to applaud at the end; that's unusual.

  • Just the best- I am so glad this is back again-

One of my favorites- Of course all of Gene Watson songs are my favorites- And with Larry Gatlin it is an added bonus-

    Mitzi

  • Gene is such aninspiration, living proof that even the greatest among us can get better with age. Oh, my!

  • Gene's voice can make a woman swoon...so effortless...so smooth! Thanks for the share, Durango! xxoo Red

  • I swoon every time I hear Gene sing - anything. :-) From the time I first heard him sing - would you believe actually on the radio? - I couldn't wait to see him somewhere. I've posted here previously but each time I watch this video I enjoy watching the expressions on the other artists here. Larry's voice is one of the greatest ever. This whole session must have been a heck of a lot of fun to sit in on. Thanks - once more - GWS for posting. - Paula

  • PaulinaRean: The two of them together...what a lovely pair! It's obvious they both admire one another...and the audience looks like they're on some kind of a "musical high"...LOL! Hey! I guess that's possible, since you & I are swoonin' each time we hear Gene sing...and with Larry...it's double jeopardy! LORD Help Me! Thanks for commenting on my comment! Warmly, Red

  • Good! Thanks!

  • GREAT, THANKS

  • Thanks Mark for this link. I had it on my favorites but it was no longer available. I do love Gene so much and he and Larry make a great duo. Gene's fabulous voice and Larry's super voice are a combination hard to beat. This song is one I never knew Larry had written till this video came out. You certainly can tell how their peers admire and appreciate these two icons of country gold. Thank you GeneWatsonSongs for posting. - Paula

  • Thank you Mark for videos as always they are fantastic just great.

    Elizabeth.

  • LeeAnn , your dads a smart man... Now you've passed the test!

  • George Jones said: "When Gene Watson belts out a ballad...it just doesn't get any better than that."

And LeeAnn Womack said, " In my Dad's eyes, I hadn't made it in country music until now: I've sung with Gene Watson.

  • So so true !

  • These are two of the greatest voices on the earth today.I was totally surprised to see that i was the first to comment on this awesome talent.Keep em coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
