Everything got strafed by Mustangs and Thunderbolts. As a child I witnessed a conversation. A German said he had witnessed the bombing of Dresden in 1945. All of the inhabitants tried to escape the inferno (30000 to 60000 dead) by fleeing to the other side of the river. That proved to be bad idea as Mustangs were swinging forth and back, emptying their magazins into the crowd.
The American in the train then confessed that he was one of those Mustang fighter pilots, but that he had no regrets.
At 27:40 it looks like a De Havilland Mosquito being attacked (twin inline engines and blister on top of canopy) and at 31:12 it is definitely a Avro Lancaster being strafed. You can even see the roundel on the port wing and the mid upper turret.
At 27:42 it looks like a De Havilland Mosquito being attacked (twin inline engines and blister on top of canopy) and at 31:12 it is definitely a Avro Lancaster being strafed. You can even see the roundel on the port wing and the mid upper turret.
This has excellent footage and commentary, and dispells the constant argument and excuse about how the Germans were out numbered, etc, etc. as to why they lost. The air war over England and Germany as shown here, are two glaring examples of Luftwaffe losing planes at a ratio much higher than the allies in fights where the allies were out numbered, at least initially. One reason is the myth of German organization and strategy, as too often individuals fought for medals and personal recognition.
Funny how all propaganda sounds the same...

The aeroplane at 27:42 is a Mosquito. Typical Yanks: so-called 'friendly fire'.

At 21:29, that's a Spitfire being shot up.

@moreblubb The Mustangs lost 50% of there aircraft by stafing. Dresden was sad but there was not a white flag to be seen anywhere in Germany.

Thank you. Outstanding footage.
Yes, it is a Mosquito and a Lancaster. Some other scences also look like training strafing runs after the war.
