This is amusing because Bette Davis clearly stated she was a real Yankee from "Yankeeland" and just wasn't very demonstrative. She said on the 1971 Dick Cavett interview that she didn't use first names for awhile and didn't kiss people she didn't know. That probably includes people she even knows really. But this is fun because it brings up so many of her films. I coordinated this with her filmography on wiki and read about them as they were brought up. Great career!
Bette is absolutely fabulous and the greatest. They do not have anyone who comes close. There are no longer any stars just faces and skinny skeletons and so boring.
No one who has seen Paul Henreid and Bette together will ever forget them. Their scenes are classics!
@scotnick59 She hugged Olivia. Most of those people are not her friends anyway,,,just people she knew and worked with.It seems they were dragging people out of the wood works, that one guy she didn't even know. That was kinda weird.Considering who this is,I thought they didn't do it "up right".
and here he is bette the mail room boy from your first motion pitcher harry burgermister at which point Bette thinks - [ give me another cigarette before I blow my brains out]
One can tell by Bette's face that she does not give a crap about most of the people there with her, specially the editing guy and the "stand up" lady.
Wow awkward hug with her and Olivia. Bette's hands are just hanging to her side during the hug. Love how Olivia is mad that she wasn't Errol's leading lady in Elizabeth and Essex.
@MadeLine278 This entire episode points up Bette's embarassment at the accolades being showered upon her (often in Ralph Richardson's trademark hyperbolic style), and the public displays of affection she's forced to go through. She was, in real life, a staunch Yankee with very reserved ideas on proper public conduct and propriety. She adored and admired people like Wyler, Henreid and de Havilland, but she certainly wasn't going to bust out crying and get sloppy or even be very demonstrative.
Didn't Bette and Olivia de Haviland make 4 pictures together? (1) It's Love I'm After (2) Elizabeth and Essex (3) In This Our Life (4) Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte.
aww bette she had to get up so many times bless her

Bette isn't very forthcoming with her affections, is she? She just "allows" herself to BE hugged. =/

@CCF01 I think she was just like that - so undemonstrative, but she did love Olivia, she just wasn't as affectionate.
