I would like to translate the poem to my language, but I miss some parts when listening to it!! Can any english native speaker, write it all here for me!! Thanks a lot!!
Awesome message and I am 99% positive that almost al the footage is from Portland, Oregon. What a great place with a huge scene in biking, love that city!
I enjoy watching this in the dead of winter....Gives me pause to know spring is on the way...a time for renewed hope and rebirth....my bike is waiting in the wings....to take me to new places to meet new faces....get out and ride!!!!!
I rode....I was a commuter for 8 years. I have left my job last month, but I'm looking for those that are interested in riding.....I don't want to stop riding! .
I love it and have watched it over and over again. I've also forwarded it to all my Families on Bikes email list, as well as a stack of others, including some Americans. Good luck, and happy cycling!
I hope you have also seen the videos from Denmark or some nordic european country, that promote cycling. You can find them with initials NFTA, I love number 9 or 7, i forgot.
@dirtrider0919 Too bad you don't know the right 'too', or that the co2 emitted from human breath is far less than that of a car. There is also no pollution.
@jiggytree It's a song by a band called Explosions in the Sky. The song is called "So Long, Lonesome" and is from their 2007 album, "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone". Get the whole album, they are fantastic!
@samdon815 You're old so I can see you're not as interested in the alternatives as some of these young folks are. So you might miss out on the mayhem of Peak Oil (Demand outstrips supply) . Cheap energy is going the way of the Dodo unless you can knock out China and India (both emerged global economic players with growing interests in energy consumption/security). So unless there's a miracle in development of replacement to the fossil fuels, you best get your fitness on. Punch on.
Kinda of chessy, sappy video, but riding a bike is good for the planet and you. I haven't driven a car since 1985. Instead I ride a bicycle, walk or take public transportation. No need to spend money on a gym, car, gas, or car insurance. Get plenty of exercise doing somethinhg fun.
i agree for most of what you say, but in cali you can definetly build leg muscles. i ride up 2 800 ft gradual hills in 1.75 miles on my way home from school every day lol
well i'm getting my bike back from my farm (i have it there cause it's sweet to ride on the mountains lol) so i can go to the gym on it, it's only a mile away.
and atm i'm running there.. even though i got a car lol
and yea, a bike can definitely build leg muscle, specially on hills..
i just wouldn't just rely on that to build my leg muscles since i do bodybuilding though :D
oh ya and 1 1000 foot gradual incline on the way to. but the benifit (like they said in the video) is that i can ride like 35 mph down the hills lol i get home in 10min with that one hill
You do get a good cardio and leg muscle work out, if you want to stretch it. I ride my bike mostly as a city bike though on fairly level streets. I live in the Bay Area.
I like it. It speaks to everyone. Who can argue with getting to fly downhill, fireflies and chocolate milk? Sometimes the most profound messages are presented in the simplest ways.
Nice video. Nice vibe about it. I ride to work in a country where bikes are at the lowest tier of the road hierarchy. I ride in a South East Asian country. This video, makes me feel that with enough exposure and awareness, the same thing could happen back home.
It is syrupy and koom bi ya.. And perhaps you've been put off by 'critical mass' and fixie culture (cliches) but mate fuck that shit, Riding a bike is fun. Not only that, if you do enough of it, it get you fit and keep you there. Car culture has contributed to human hybrid Hutts. 50 years ago it was rare to see someone fat let alone morbidly obese. Now you have these sad landwhales wondering what the fuck happened to them. Oh, and there's a ton of hot cycling women out there. So Win!
Alternative transportation -- especially human-powered -- is nice. Way to go. The more people speak up, the more others will understand what the movement is about.
I'm always cautious when it comes to consigning a message as a 'movement'. (also a euphemism for taking a shit). Lenin had a movement, so did Hitler.JIm Jones... Kool aid. Movements are for group think and the mob. I'm all for positive promotion of cycling but movement's say Us And Them. That's alienating to the mainstream.
I ride and do run some red lights after coming to a stop and if safe to do so. I look at it as a benefit to riding and that i can get out of the way of vehicles by the times the light turns green for them. Some states even have it written into state law allowing this for bike riders and it has shown there is actually a reduction in bike vs car accidents for states that have done so...
all i heard was "chocolate milk"...
