it will be used for research. that means it will probably do a lot of simulations for medical research, computer science and physics. i do however doubt that it "won't be used often" since the reason it was built was to use it. 24h a day, 7 days a week and so on.

also the power consumption you mentioned is per year and not per day as far as i know.
