  • I had that model, still missing it's spin on/off sounds :) thx for video :)

  • Oh man, i love the buzz of the old quantums, i had twin 4GB disks =)

  • nice thanx i have that kind of sound when i turned it on !! thanx very helpful : D

  • What Brand Computer Did It Come From????

  • @TheNascarfan14 No idea. I actually got it from a shop that used to exist in Beaverton Oregon.."Ready Computer". My father worked there for a while and they had a box of defective hard drives that they were going to get rid of. This is one of the drives that turned out to work just fine. Does well with a surface scan, everything. In fact, I am using in my old computer every once in a while as the boot drive.

  • @danwat1234 What Does It Look Like On The Top Of It???

  • @TheNascarfan14 A silver cover with the quantum spec sticker on it

  • i had a harddrive that sounds like that when it started up but i crashed it!!!!!

  • I have a Fireball that's about....850MB.

  • My quantum from my Mac G-3 used to go "tadaa!" now it makes that sound.

  • I've got a Quantum LPS 100MB for SCSI that as far as I know still works :)

  • 1) I have the Fireball 6GB CR version, sounds like it gets up to 7200. Don't quote me on this.

    2) The noises are merely it performing its startup seek test. Every drive does this.

    3) I've played with one SCSI drive that had spindle overshoot.

  • USS Enterprise :))

  • That's exactly the sound my Fireball ST makes during startup. Doesn't that normally indicate a problem during reading? So far, I have found 40 bad sectors in five scans of that hard drive.

  • @liquidoxygen0 That seeking noise is the natural initialization process it does to check itself out to see if it is ready to come 'online'.

  • i have a similar drive... i like it when the motor goes too fast and spins down to 5400 rpm

  • In closed loop control theory, we call that "overshoot". Where the system overshoots its desired output, then comes down to it.

I've never heard a hard drive do that before.

  • i have quantum fireball 19 gb

  • cool, i have a 12gb, 10gb, 6gb and 4gb quantum fireball and they all still work good as, they are very touch drives but loud aswell.

  • Comment removed

  • Haha. I love those old Quantum drives. They're loud, clunky, annoying and sometimes eve a bit slow, but they are certainly die-hard. We just got rid of a stack of those old 6.4s at work the other day, and they were all still in perfect working order.

  • i have a 3 gig quantum fireball that still works and its loud.:)

  • alexchrisccc: Better luck than me. I have a Quantum Fireball of the same capacity, which will frequently scream and click. It failed two hours after I'd copied everything from it; you might see me post my films of it when I've got my movie development software to work properly.

  • good times. I have a 212MB Western Digital HD that still works.

  • i have 3 40mb hard drives, 2 seagates and 1 western digital, still working

  • @danwat1234 i have one from 11 years ago that still works

  • sweet!

  • i have a 3gb quantime fireball and it still works also

  • I Have a Quantium ProDrive ELS 127 MB and it stil works to :-)
