Beyond badass? Thanks for the cool compliment! This style of keyboard is called a sonome and it was invented by yours truly, Peter Davies. I'm not one of the Axis ppl but they make their own versions of it.
@notepool2 be serious! If anything, you have reinvented the wheel (nor have guys from Axis)!... This type of keyboard has been around for ages (literally) in accordions. It's the only way to play pieces like this one: youtube.com/watch?v=EFNNPZsO7-Q. Btw, enjoy and learn something!
@psxbit People comment that it LOOKS like an accordion. Hexagonal keys are very versatile. But my note layout is completely different. Our keyboard provides 16 layouts inc. systems C & B accordion, so accordionists can play this keyboard already. But with 2 crossing semitone rows and no ascending 5ths, the range is about 2.5 octaves instead of 5.3 for the Melodic Table layout. Not saying any's better; ‘horses for courses’. Be serious? Yes, you have to be, to design and build your own keyboards.
@44eelz Well, if you're strictly asking about the key layout, it's a hexagonal tile (edge-minimizing) version of Leonhard Euler's Tonnetz. Riemann used a just intonation mapping in the 19th century, and in the 20th century it was investigated heavily by David Lewin (a total badass).
So, yeah. Layout's been known since, liek, forevar. It's cool that Davies makes them though and I want one.
Thank you elpan00js, for your comment. I'm ashamed to say my education wasn't thorough enough to include readiing in your language, but if you can translate it for me I would be interested to know what you say here! Cheers, Peter
Thank you Zepster77, I love that song of Jimi's, it sounds straight from the heart to me - I learned it on guitar first. I'm not through with recording yet, just don't have an Opal right now - hopefully - soon, more clips... I was working on 'Bold As Love' too.
I just did a search for commodore 64 and I saw a visual similarity but heard no sound! There are 2 themes in this mix, 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Message to Love'. I haven't had one of these to play for a while, had to dismantle this one to mock up new designs :( Oh well, I'll record some more when I have one again :)
who discovered or invented this style keyboard, the AXIS ppl??? it is beyond badass!
