Yeah, I can't believe they're arguing about bands that have already proved their greatness. Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, all my favorite bands. All legendary. If anything should be derided as overrated it should be all these new hipster bands garnering critical acclaim. Argue about Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, and other garbage like that.
You're missing the point. Point is, I don't like the Youth as much as I like the Pixies. And for some reason, you can't come to terms with that. Why? You say Where is My Mind is overrated, I don't think it is just like you don't think Kool Thing is overrated.
And no, I don't think it was a mistake for them to get back together. I saw them on one of their renunion shows and they were spectacular. Sure, they weren't as lively..but their OLDER now. Still sound great.
Where did Where is My Mind come into play here? I can name drop some overrated Youth songs that have nothing to do with he conversation at hand too. Kool Thing? 'nuff said.
And how many times do I have to say I own all of the Youth albums? lmao.
Better than Evol? I think not. Evol was so ahead of its time. Innovative and sounded great. The other albums were GOOD but not GREAT. Don't think I haven't heard all their shit just because my opinion differs from yours.
Honestly, I like the Pixies catalogue more. And they are a much better live show. I've seen the Pixies on several occasions ..not as many times as the Youth, though. I just prefer the Pixies.
I own all of them. I've seen the Youth several times live (best show was at the Variety Playhouse here in atlanta...great show.). ..I'm not saying all this with no frame of reference. I love alternative music outside of the Sonic Youth.
See, that's just opinion though. In my opinion...I've heard better alt rock. I like the Youth, don't get me wrong...I'm just not gaga over them. I prefer the likes of the Pixies, and MBV as I said before...hell I even enjoy Husker Du more than the Youth..but I'm not saying they suck.

I have just returned from the Pixies "Doolittle" concert (Melbourne, Australia) 23 March 2010
The concert was BRILLIANT.
As good, if not better, than on CD.
They played virtually everthing off "Doolittle" plus some songs from other albums and "B sides".
Unfortunately they didn't play "Velouria", which is one of my favourite Pixies tracks.
First time I have seen them live:thoroughly enjoyed the show!
