i'm a bit of a kate bush fan, only listened to four albums, but I don't see the influence myself. I think it's actually quite dammaging to make comparisions like that because then everyone's expecting a kate bush, which Marina + the diamonds isn't. I think Marina and the diamonds are just as original as Kate bush, just in a different field of music, though they're both strong lyrically.
@Ollieglam Indeed! I must admit I also tied her up to Kate Bush, Tori Amos and even The Sparks, but I think that is only because one automatically looks for similarities, memories.... Marina and the Diamonds is indeed at least as original as those artists. I have been listening non-stop to her for about 10 days now, and I am really enchanted, even obsessed. Can´t stop listening...

ive known about marina maybe 45mins. friend emailed a tune of hers and ive now, listened to maybe 6 or 8 of marina's songs. all of them great! but after about the third one, i emailed my friend to say i detected some very heavy reflections of kate bush. to pick it up, you might have to be old like me and have listened to kate's stuff spread out for the last 25 years instead of all in one go. everyone is influenced by someone but she's making her own style. i like this young girl's stuff!

oh my mistake. didnt realize from your earlier comments you'd been listening that long. think the similarity to kate is in the vocal styling. my guess was she rummaged through her parent's record collection and found ABBA, kate bush and some greek bazouki music and these were her influences. just a guess but i hadnt heard she denied the influence. peace my brother.
@aethercoil Yes! I've been listening to Kate Bush literally since birth, as my mother is a massive fan. And I instantly picked up on Kate's 'Suspended In Gaffa' influence in Marina's song 'Obsessions'.
I guess I did a good job with the edit then. It's good enough for the CD compilation that I put together of Marina's stuff so I can play it in the car.
This song is in the korean version of Rusty Hearts for some reason... Good song tho

Kate's best 80 minutes of music beats the best 80 minutes of most people but I could probably only find around 25 tracks that I would love.
Having said that Marina has along way to go to make a mark like Kate has.
