  • The Atlas V rocket, now with disposable applicator.

  • then we may gota see lots of fresh & interesting documentation on Red planet

  • Note : Opportunity is still active, so if MSL Reach Mars in August 2012, (in 5th of august to be exact) that means theres 2 Rover Active

  • Did anyone else think the spaceship was going to crash because of the angles the shots were taken?

  • Good luck curiosity

  • nice...

  • BRAVO!!! RD-180!!!

  • 4:30 What is the right name in english for the mounting element in the middle.

    Hex socket head cap ?

Three other lila hexagons, maybe a sign for sucess

    good luck Curiosity

  • @IQ20000Berta it's called a bolt

  • God speed Curiosity, Have a save journey.

  • does it seem primitive to strap ourselves to a massive bomb to get anywhere... ?

  • Godspeed MSL.

  • It would be cool if one day we got advanced enough in Audio/Visual stuff to attach some kind of camera that could stream on the rocket in space. But I guess it's not doable yet.

  • @Herarry The problem is that this would need a lot of bandwidth, which is needed for other things. And for 99% of the flight there would be nothing to see... except darkness.

  • It would be cool if one day we got advanced enough in Audio/Visual stuff to attach so

  • I wish NASA would put some type of sound recorder/microphone on these rovers. I for one would like to hear the sound of the wind on Mars. Would there be any difference in the sounds since the atmosphere of Mars is less than 1% the thickness of Earth’s atmosphere and it’s made up of 95% carbon dioxide? Fascinating to actually hear as well as see.

  • @gekko14 The speed of sound on Mars is only 2/3 that of the Earth's. Therefore the winds would sound a lot deeper. Also because of its sparse atmosphere, sound waves don't travel very far. If you were standing on Mars and screamed, a person standing 15m away from you wouldn't be able to hear it. Amazing isn't it?

  • @hardstyle905 yes. thank you

  • народ, когда уже на Марсе сады зацветут?

  • when the Curiosity landed and suddenly meet Martians, engaged via video call.

    Martians : "Hello aliens!"

    Earthlings : "Hello, aliens!"

  • I mean its not like its a secret thing that no one is aloud to view as the thing lands on mars... without seen proven images of it as it is about to land on mars.. all evidence u get is just ones the damn roboto is there and starts taking pictures but you dont have evidence real images or videos of how it actually landed.. rather then pretty graphics animations which isnt realistic.. But still i think record it as film video and send it back to earth would be brilliant. If they can with HDpic

  • Is there any real-time graphic where the rocket is at the moment in the orbit?

  • Seeing this restored my faith in humanity today.... not sure why

  • another planet to destroy

  • @MrJacobthe4th bah .. humbug.

  • Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, .......... the next...... Migration

  • @bioknock right on

  • NASA = We Are Champions!

  • i get teary-eyed watching this...i just wish people around me could understand how awesome this is...we're sending a friggin' robot to a planet an unfathomable distance away, FOR SCIENCE!

  • @jacksonlefteye For Science indeed. (:

  • @jacksonlefteye i understand - truly amazing

  • have a nice journey

  • .......Commonnn grow up The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one

  • @drmonty3 thank god there's no one like you in charge of anything related to science.

  • @louielouie11224 He's quoting War of the Worlds.

  • @drmonty3 But they still come

  • Which camera was used to shoot this video? what is its zoom power ? (i am asking about the camera on ground, not the one on the probe)

  • Surely if a live stream cam isnt good enough well they could at least record film video as the rover is about to land on mars and as it gets closer and closer with its work... we could watch this someday.. But why nasa only just shows photos ? sure it may have taken sometime to receive the photos but that also works the same if it was video recording of the actual stuff. just think photos is neat but boring.. would rather see recording film as the rover is about to brouch to mars.. why not??

  • @VOXS2

Because the bandwidth for the rover is very small.

It takes a lot to transmit and receive data from something about 100 to 200 million miles away.

  • @VOXS2 i think it's down to bandwith and praticality. it would be 'nice' to see footage but every ounce of a spacecraft must only be what's completely necessary to the mission. as nothing's on mars is really 'moving' in realtime i guess it's only important to take photos rather than film.

however, a movie is only a sequence of still images anyway - and as things in space don't really move very fast there have been a few movies put together from still images - the cassini missions for example

  • @tsunchoo well thats right but i think they could start recording video footage as it is almost on mars and about the land... and captureing all this in video recording would be brilliant... not just graphics computer animations.... and then expect to see just pretty HD pictures of it as it is allready landed.... I mean they could do the same expert archivement as if they where to record it on video and then send the video back to earth just like how they do with HD pictures. true?

  • @VOXS2 yeah i agree it would be brilliant and would do a lot for the public's appreciation of space exploration.. but i think the same problem would be the amount of bandwidth for sending the files back to earth.. i'm no expert on it - maybe they could trickle it back along with other stuff.. i do think you're right though - video footage would be worth a thousand HD images..

  • @tsunchoo True coz you know in very short period of time 2020-2025 i think man man and women goes to mars to explore... and there for people on earth would want to see everything in real time or at least video footage regardless if the video is delay by minutes and or hourly... Surely people dont just wanna see the same old traditional images and images.. and making the images as if it was video motion.. that just bad. But who knows how they will do it and yeah true with banthwitch.

  • So we have learn that its not posible to mount a live stream cam on this rover to watch it constantly live 24h. So... why isnt there ever been rovers where we can see recording FILM of it as it gets near mars ? rather then photos and graphics which means graphics is fake and not realistically.. and pictures may be nice but why not watch some real time recording VIDEO FILM of this ? theres been a few rovers to mars.. But never seen a video where it shows how it is landing on mars and such.

  • @VOXS2

When Cassini-Huygens landed on Saturn's moon Titan, there was video footage of its descent to the surface. I really don't know what you are saying. It's all there, you just have to at least TRY to find it....I'm sure there will be lots of footage of this mission as well.

  • Retiring the shuttle without an immediate, viable replacement left me shocked and appalled. Good to see we're at least doing something to continue human space exploration.

  • 0:16 bird is shitting bricks

  • DID IT NOT SEEM TO ANYONE ELSE THAT IT SEEMED TO ARC DRASTICALLY?

  • can nasa do a live feed of it flying through space?

  • @Mezric Do you want a 8 month-live feed with nothing to see, except darkness? Sounds pretty boring, I know.

But I admit, it would be nice to see a sped-up video of the Earth getting smaller and smaller as the spacecraft moves away, and later on the same thing with Mars as it gets closer.

  • for want of a better term Godspeed NASA. Best use of rocket and nuclear technology I can think of.

  • Looks like a Minuteman headed for Russia.

  • there should of been a continuesly stream cam built on this as it heads to mars... all we see was just a 5 minute lunch rocket and thats it.. But it would be interesting to see a live feed of the thing heading to mars.. a cam on the back and a cam on its front.. to view as it heads to mars and the back camera to view perhaps planet earth been distance and other planets near by.

  • @VOXS2 you wouldn't see mars until the same day it arrives, it's not like it follows the planet orbiting around the sun you know, it takes a short-cut and basically lets mars fly towards it. also all you would get would be a black screen. Space ain't that much fun you know.

  • @OedivEcin HELL YES!

  • It's been 50 years since we've been to the moon, why haven't more than just probes and rovers been to Mars?

  • @Bodywrecker One simple reason, money. Probes can be sent to Mars for fraction of the price of a human.

  • 6 people are gay christians

  • i feel so patriotick now

  • gods speed

  • theyre probably gonna lie if theres intellegent life on mars

  • @TheWyn84 And how do you know if they are going to lie? I know you said 'probably', but still. There's no way of knowing if there is until we actually explore Mars.

  • @CPSPD That's true. I just hope they don't because it's really cool if there's life on mars. Then it's even closer then we always tought and that will change perspective on alot of things.

  • @TheWyn84 Mars was probably inhabited millions of years ago, since there are valleys that could have only been created by water, and water means life. Yes, it's true, it would goddamn weird if they found life on Mars, but I hope for it and kind of don't :I MIND, Y U SO CONFUSE?

  • AWESOME!, I really wish the Centaur had a camera on it to downlink video.

  • this is called a textbook launch. Well done, NASA !!

  • Felicitaciones........ Les deseo el mayor de los exitos a todo el equipo del MSL

  • ya know its probably our fault if there is life there XD we probably already contaminated it with our cooties

  • Coooool :) Glad to see something wonderful :D

  • THIS IS AN OTHER GREAT FEAT FOR AMERICAN SPACE PROGRAMM.I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS BLAST OFF FOR MONTHS.NOW THAT IS OVER WE WAIT FOR THE INTERESTING MISSION.WE CANNOT WAIT FOR HUMAN KIND PEACE TODO SOMETHING.MEN DOES NOT KNOW HOW OR WANT PEACE.SO THSE OF US THAT WANTS AND LIKES PEACE AND NANNOT GET IT BECAUSE OF MEN'S GREED LET US AT LRSET ENJOY SCIENCE.THANK YOU NASA,THANK YOU ALL INGINIERS AND SCIENTISTS WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE. CHARLIE BORG BARKA.

  • ditto to BigBillie01's thoughts of a supposed financial ruin and thumbs up to the big bird as well.

  • It's rather amazing that the whole cost of the organization and project is made possible just by printing money without any worth but the paper its printed on and the petrodollar is accepted by governments all over the world.

How would could anybody ever have believed that space exploration can be undertaken by a bankrupt country - and for that matter a bankrupt world.

  • @BigBillie01 Keep believing in UFOs and the Boogeyman ! F*cking moron. NASA is paid for by American taxpayers.

  • Bird flies in to the frame right on 0

  • Whats with the black bird swooping across the screen at the point of liftoff? 0:16

    Bad omen or coincidence?

  • @AdognamedOp They keep a rabbit's foot in the rocket to ward off bad omens.

  • Why dont they just show the video stream while the whole thing is heading to mars? by now we could of seen planet earth in full round shape by distance... is there any way they could still strream live of it ?

  • @VOXS2 there was a stream

  • @Nadirion1 lol

  • first time watching anything like this before, im form Australia and we don't really see nasa stuff, but it looks so unrealistic on the lift off.

  • @holtyhero I'm from Australia too, and I see NASA information and launches on the news all the time.

  • @holtyhero Unrealistic? Mind explaining?

  • #OCCUPY_MARS

  • This is a grand day for Shinra Corp's space exploration.

    Now to deal with Avalanche!

  • Very well done, I hope all goes well on this one.

  • That looked like an excellent start to the mission, congratulations :)

  • Pardon me, but doesn't the fairing separation only happens after staging? Why did it happen before second stage separation?

  • My name is on the inside of that rover.

    : )

  • can i come too? i dont want to live on earth anymore with so much evilness within!

  • @85mehdik1 go live on the Moon.

  • @85mehdik1 yeah go ahead, we need to get rid of loosers like you

  • @85mehdik1 you do know its a 3 year trip to mars right

  • @idontknowlol345 What?

  • @idontknowlol345 How about 7 months?

  • i note there is only one curiosity probe not 2 probes of the same type, if this one dissapears 'lost in space'. it's one helluva expensive firework!

  • what happens when this runs out of fuel?

  • @choclatesaltyballz I believe the main engines run out of fuel quite fast. As there is no air resistance in space, it will just keep going on its pre-determined course. It does however have some remaining fuel to maneuver and for its landing on Mars (slow descent to the surface).

  • @hardstyle905 yeah i thought that was the case. bloody amazing stuff

  • another planet to destroy

  • Wish Nasa all the best. After all it was payed by the U.S taxers money. All I can see is special effects for the Hollywood sci fi movies, out of this

  • Good luck with this project and hope all goes well

  • We are very close

  • @intub8or Yes, and now imagine what would happen if this continued with nuclear weapons. Humans will be extinct before we even have a manned mars mission, if this goes on. I am quite shocked to see that you're German. I thought you guys caused enough wars already...

Also, you are an idiot. Deal with it.

  • @hardstyle905 One day you will eventually have to grow up ,special child and judging by the the level of your mental development as revealed by your reply to my comment ,it will happen no earlier than one day before you shuffle off this mortal coil. You have failed to address the substance of my comment due to intellectual poverty and moral cowardice .therefore resorting to cheap ad hominem shot. I am not German. I live in Germany due to a long term work contract. Racial stereotyping? Big FAIL!

  • whats the big deal if they find bacteria or whatever living on Mars, I mean so what? its a total waste of money just to massage some scientists egos...

  • Thats right @sakaveli

  • Clues to the planetary puzzle of life on Mars!!

... so there is/was life on Mars.

  • As I was watching this there was a cheesy commercial with incredibly sad music in the background, so as I watched it felt like this was earth's last hope.

  • The human race is amazing. Such a shame we would rather kill one another and destroy our own planet. I hope we change.

  • @sakaveli The human species son. Human species.

  • @sakaveli we have changed look atyourslf you got liked 42 times that shows that other people have changed and want to stop fighting so the ones who have stop fighting have changed :)

  • @sakaveli Well said!

  • @sakaveli well... it would go against what you're hoping for but how about killing the people that want to kill others? you'd be a hypocrite, but at least you'd be rid of all the bad people in the world.

  • @NASAtelevision Please post up all the camera footage taken from the rockets and payload like at 3:00. In the past you posted similiar video of the last shuttle launch, I believe. It was amazing to watch the raw footage and the sounds.

  • That Atlas Rocket sure has some thrust!

  • 4:32 - 5:18 Lucky Bolt to cruise through space :P

  • thanks didnt wakeup in time for this but much better in HD ..

  • Damn, how am I suppose to wait about 10 month to see some footage from Mars :/

  • Great lift off with it the Kurdistan Planetarium name is proudley on board destined for Mars Gale Crater, wish MSL a great success and a smooth landing..

  • SPECIALE E BELLISSIMO LANCIO PERCHè VIDEORIPRESO SUL RAZZO STESSO CON L'APERTURA DEL CUPOLONE CHE NON HO MAI VISTO E IL RILASCIO DEL CARICO... STUPENDO

  • Awesome, ..... You are beautiful NASA ;)

  • Comment removed

  • awesome ! ! ! good luck for the mission !

  • Thank you, NASA for all that you do. You give humanity hope for the future and you are truly the beacon of what is good and amazing about America. God Bless.

  • how about some clear pictures of the moon or geting somebody back up there again or was the once to much fun, Oh and how about ye start telling the truth that would be nice to.

    Peace

  • I know one of the NASA engineers who worked on designing these rockets

  • @KiLLERer666 Haha, I have a friend at Sandia lab that did some of the math work for it.

  • @Bluedrake42

Talibans were created with the help of Russia and US gov. In fact it's Bush family that is to blame. While Daddy was head of the CIA. Learn history =)

  • @IceFritzLanger okay... how... does that negate what I said?

  • Great coverage of MSL's ascent. It's nice to see MSL on its way to Mars.

  • Go Curiosity!

  • Only through scientific progress can humanity insure its survival. We need more grants, more funding, more research. This is more important than a petty war or some businesses bottom line, this is our lasting legacy as a species. This is bigger than any corporation or country, because this these accomplishments belong to the whole human race. This is humanity at its finest.

  • we need more money to feed the space programs of earth. with the possiblity of alien life only looming around the corner, we need to push further for another milestone in human history.

  • It would be awesome if they would stream the feed from the rocket's camera through the entire journey!

  • Good luck! Удачи!

  • atheistspeed curiosity

  • Watched it live! Amazing! New era in the near space exploration! Have a biggest expectations. It will land 5th of august, 2012. So let's await with patience.

  • Godspeed Curiosity!

  • Nasa why are you so awesome?

  • @Icix1 Finally some one used the word awesome in the correct context.

  • @nak807

Well there are multiple definitions, so it really depends on context.

  • @Icix1 No there are not. Using such a specific word to describe a tv show or video game is not the correct usage of the word. I don't wish to argue but, a rocket traveling at these speeds to travel to another world is 'awe inspiring'(awesome).

  • @nak807

Yes, there are. According to Webster's awesome also means "excellent, extremely good".

Did you even bother to look this up? Seriously you're clearly wrong on this 100%.

  • @Icix1 I'm not denying people use it that way. I am making the point that just because people use it that way doesn't justify their use of it. If your going to use awesome to mean good, then does this word have the same weight when you use it to describe the grand cannon? You also used the word 'Seriously' in your reply to me which suggests you are upset about this, in which case I'm sorry you feel that way. But, more likely, you as many foke's these days are getting your vocabulary from tv.

  • 0:17 WOW

  • MSL has escaped the Earth. That's right folks, the Solar System is America's playground. You're welcome to come out and play if you want and as much as you can. But remember who this era's pioneers will be remembered as. Team USA!

  • @TalksWithDirt *cough* german technology *cough*

  • @AgrivatedKillah Cough, cough, Goddard, sneeze sneeze, Congruve, wink wink, Chinese. And of course don't forget the true first masters of large booster technology the Russians/Ukranians/Soviets. .... I see your point. But the fact is the people carrying the lopsided amount of water in Solar System exploration these days is the United States. Don't worry, I know my history and give history its due.

  • @TalksWithDirt cough cough, you're correct.

  • And remember Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune have, as of yet, only been visited by American or American/ESA spacecraft. Then there is Asteroid survey. That game is lo lopsided in favor of the Americans it's not funny.

  • America goes to Mars again! One day, that will be an American planet. Along with not a few asteroids.

  • Ufos at the ending or space debris?

  • For Science !

  • Comment removed

  • Best of luck to Curiosity and its team!

  • Goosebumps all over, nice going chaps, my compliments!

  • hmmm i wonder will NASA ever release those photos of artificial structures on mars

  • best best of LUCK and Success to USA/NASA

  • bon voyage curiosity.

  • Swap the Pentagon budget with NASA's and in 10 years we'll have manned interstellar travel. Good job guys. Make us proud in this difficult time.

  • Great job! As expected :)

  • What a monster! Great job NASA!

  • Goodluck!

  • Is there any site where we can check where is it now, how many km Curiosity has travelled?

  • Beautiful. :')
