  • She has a beautiful voice!

  • How can you not appreciate rarity!

    Beautiful song.

  • joe budden brought me hear

  • THANK YOU !!!

  • Joe budden and olympics sample! Great music!

  • Sounds like Corinne Bailey Rae but without the accent

  • Stevie Wonder is so obviously such a higher being. The man ouzzes positivity from every pore!

  • I love this song! It is so haunting, and beautiful. Syreeta was Stevie Wonder's ex-wife at this point and he wrote this song for her to sing, and I believe he is playing on it as well. A very loving song about a love affair and marriage that had ended. Stevie has written many love songs, but this one is the most poingant, I think, having his ex-lover sing it. Whew. Stevie ,in my book, is one of the most moving songwriter-singers ever, but here Syreeta moves us so tenderly.

  • @TheWorkman Well said.

  • @TheWorkman thanks for the narration, I learn so much on You Tube from you Music Mogels!! Awesomeness!!!

  • I love both the instrumental version of Jeff Beck and this of Syreeta. Her voice is beautiful!

  • Loved her Voice!

  • Joe Budden - I Couldn't Help It

  • Stevie Wonder wrote this. Just to get thongs straight.

Jeff Beck's instrumental version is more widely known.

  • Love her voice, she used to married to Stevie Wonder. wonder if he inspired his tune?

  • Original music by Jeff Beck name of the song is "Cause We've Ended As Lovers"-Jeff Beck -----------------peeps who like rap check out kinda hard "mmo"

  • @pololuvz

Actually written by Stevie Wonder. 100% verified by checking writing credit on my vinyl copy of "Blow by Blow"

  • @pololuvz Sorry buddy. Stevie Wonder wrote this. Beck covered it. Also, if you know your music history, Stevie was going to give the song Superstition to Beck too but after Berry Gordy heard Stevie's version he released it and it hit the #1 spot! Stevie then let Jeff Beck cover this song and then he also wrote a tune called "Thelonius" on Beck's Blow by Blow album. Check you history.....or just check the credits onBeck's blow by blow and you'll see this song was written by Stevie :)

  • @pololuvz Just saw youe comment from later on.....but you can still check on the other stuff I mentioned.

  • Wow i just so happen to click this when i was on the other page listening to Syreeta & Billy and i notice the music sounded familar a girl name Christina Milian use this same music in her song called O daddy. Anyways this is my first time hearing this song by Syreeta. it sounds good i like it:)

  • Beautiful song! Joe Budden samples it, too.

  • @exzotik81 so did Prodigy HNIC

  • @skyweezynU Notice I said "too"!

  • What a beautiful voice. Sad to hear that she's gone, but this songtress made her print as a songbird.

  • Beautiful song and touching lyrics. Simply ....I love it!!!

  • this music is timeless! know matter

your age it simply stays with you

    there, in your heart.

  • 3.54 is just such an amazing highlight of this mind blowing yet totally subtle and beautiful song ..... bet you hit the replay button

  • This jewel of the great Stevie Wonder is magnificently sung by his wife Syreeta! Until now, only heard the version of Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.

  • Syreeta sings this song so beautifully. And let's give it up for Stevie Wonder, who wrote this song and arranged and produced the cut himself for his beautiful singing wife (or wife-to-be?), Syreeta. This cut owes so much to the A & R and even to Stevie's background vocals. On this album also check out "I'm Goin' Left", which is a cool uptempo song.

  • @jccorona Syreeta passed away in 2004 I believe. She died of cancer and had been Stevie Wonder's wife from 1971 to 1973 thereabouts. She had no children with Steve (to my knowledge).

  • at a glance she kinda looks like nikki minaj (no disrespect...lol)

  • I will definitely pull out the old LP.

  • Just UNBELIEVABLE!! Such emotion...such phrasing.

  • The likes of Sade own a lot to her.

  • sooooooo beautiful...x

  • shivers...

  • Ok people, this song makes you just wanna take a warm peppermint

shower light a candle and relax, if it's raining that's even better, don't

forget the peppermint tea, before you do all of this make sure the kid's

are tucked in and asleep & the cat & dog as well LOL, your right, I can hear

a little corrine bailey rae in the chorus, I love her music to & minnie as well

  • Syreeta was a beautiful woman, but even given that, who cares, if I came home to a woman that could sing like that, WOW!

  • Yeslorenzo pleazzzeeee let me see Syreeta sings i too am waiting...pleazzee

  • Is it just me or can anyone else hear a little bit of what might have influenced Corine Bailey Rae? Especially the chorus.

  • What can you say......The word "beautiful" only scratches the surface in describing this Stevie Wonder composition.......performed ever so tenderly by his lovely wife, Syreeta. These two, LITERALLY made beautiful music together! "Cause We've Ended Now As Lovers" is a prime example of 2 brilliant, artistically creative individuals, combining their respective "Gifts"........Musical "Heaven"!

  • This music should have been used as main theme for a James Bond 007 film :)

  • I knew Stevie wrote this, I thought for Jeff Beck, whose version I adore. But this is too much. Lyrics are beautiful.

  • This woman is an unsung Diva.

  • beside his mother & his children, syreeta was his great love, i can understand stevie

  • what a song

  • This song was a massive missed chance for Jeff Beck, I think. His version is godly good, but imagine if he'd still had Rod Stewart in his band when he recorded it....Beck's guitar, Rod's voice, this frickin' song....

  • One overlooked aspect of this song is that the beautiful lyrics were written by Syreeta. She was a wonderful lyricist who wrote lyrics to some of Stevie's songs including this one.

  • Prodigy of Mobb Deep - Diamond ft Bars n Hooks ( That's first rap song taht ever sampled this song ) Not Joe Budden.

  • @Grafhoofdd Soooo True!!!!

  • also sampled for Joe Budden's "I Couldn't Help It", this track is so beautiful and for anyone who says sampling in hip-hop is bad.... I never would have found this without sampling.

  • @boozaaa Hahah i see u doin ur homework boy why are you every video iam at seeing comments haha.

  • @langa209 looooooooool what the hell.. coool WE UP! CHEAAHHH! JOEEYY!

  • @boozaaa Why is sampling so bad?

  • Oh yeah. I remember this one. Really, really beautiful. So very, very Stevie.

  • Whoever thought that a haunting sound could be so beautiful....?

  • Absolutlely beautiful! I've heard numerous instrumental versions of this song: Lee Ritenior, The Crusaders... but this is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life! Stevie Wonder is blessed with an extremely understated writing ability and I would have to say that Syreeta's voice is just as beautiful and understated as well. Thank you incrediblecHiller.

  • wow, i feel as though this song was created for Stevie Wonder... touching song

  • @love112489 For Stevie and by Stevie. Quite touching, indeed.

  • this is a diamond

  • wow!! I love this version! strong soft power!

  • A haunting and timeless musical masterpiece. You simply can't get this type of artistry or sound today.

  • joe budden sampled this on "i couldn't help it"

  • @chrismorale

thank you...i couldn't remember and figured someone would leAve it as a comment lol.

  • @chrismorale so did Prodigy..HNIC.. ppl always say the artist sampled this ....nope the producer does the work!!

  • @skyweezynU true indeed. just never knew the producer's name who produced that song...hence just me saying who's project it appeared on. you get what i mean tho.

  • This is the most eerily beautiful song I have heard in ages. I first heard of this song from Jeff Beck's album "Blow by Blow." His version is great. Her version is great. I won't dare try to compare them...

  • Oh wow. Thank you for sharing.

  • So very good.

  • I have never heard this version. Great version but I will always love the Jeff BEck Version best

  • @bluesboy25000 Beck's version is great for sure but this version, with lyrics is deeper and more powerful. Solely because of the lyrics.

  • Only thing I do not like about this song is that I played it 100 times after my girlfriend brook up with me years ago. WOW Just beautiful

  • Only thing I do not like about this song is that I played it 100 times after my girlfriend brook up with me years ago. WOW Just beautiful

  • lucky lady..beautiful voice!!

  • I wonder if they play the intro at her funeral. :( RIP Syreeta. Beautiful song.

  • Syreeta Wright. 8/4/ 1946 7/6/ 2004

  • this is so freakin weird,

i first experienced this song by jeff beck,

upon hearing this, i have found the crux of the biscuit.

  • @bluelibra65: I thought the crux of the biscuit was the Apostrophe

  • pretty

  • dope and eerie cut!

  • Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood California is her resting place, sleep well sweet voice.

  • @MrChrisjeffries

    When did she pass away?

  • @Msstrange1 2004

  • the beginning is almost scary. like funeral music

  • wow, never knew this wasn't a beck original. stevie sure is talented if he can just give away songs like this

  • @flowerdrop1

Stevie writes songs for other people all the time. You would be surprised how many songs by other artists he has written songs for and you probably have heard quite a few and didn't even realize it.

  • Syreeta name is as beautiful as her voice

  • Simply Beautiful!!!!!!

  • mobb deep sample diamond

  • Nice catch.. best song on that album

  • @donepearce no u

  • I'm happy to play the game, but you are going to have to give me a clue.

  • This song is much deeper when she sings this because it basically describes her love relationship/marriage & divorce with Stevie Wonder.

  • Great song, moves me!!!! This hits me like Minnies stuff!!

  • @birdmanbenjibeat My two favorite female vocalists, Minnie and Syreeta! Delicate and yet powerful. Amazing!

  • I listened to Jeff Beck's version....well, all I can say is, "To each his/her own." I'm so glad that there are many genres of music to please the masses!

  • Sorry..but Minnie Riperton's voice had a higher octave than Syreeta's. Minnie could reach notes a tad bit higher. LOVE BOTH ARTISTS... I remember their songs while in college...soooo many years ago! lol...

Love songs and songs of the heart are not written today as in days gone by..so sad.

  • I love the way Syreeta sings this song! The Jazz Crusaders has the best instrumental arrangement ever!

  • I agree with blkfrench26, Syreeta' voice does indeed remind one of Minnie Riperton, so it's no wonder why Stevie Wonder was attracted to her voice.

Beautiful gem of a song and thanks for sharing.

    Blessings.

  • The Klasixs sampled this for the Joe Budden song called"cant help it"!

  • i dont know much about her but i want to learn

  • She was beautiful!

  • This song was given to Jeff Beck, because Stevie wrote "Superstition" for Beck, but ending up singing the song himself.I like both versions. Her voice has the same tone as Minnie Ripperton.

  • what magic performance....an angel touch the voice of Syreetha!!!! RIP sweet soul, i love u....

  • I grew up with this song. So haunting and beautiful. Unbelievably delicate and intricate. Miss you Syreeta. ~B~

  • WE GOING DIAMOND!!! GET BREAD!!!!

  • Wow, amazing. Haunting sounding, I'm sure Stevie Wonder wrote and arranged this one. The Crusaders version is nice too!

  • Been loving Jeff Beck's version for all these yrs- finally checked on this and "I can't give back the love I feel for you"- Beck covered these tunes so beautifully that I always remembered the titles.....fantastic! Using the lovely melodies and crediting their sources, paying the royalties, Beck added melodic beauty to his otherwise harder sound-this song is still a high point in his shows. more recently he plays "a day in the life"...is "Nadia" a cover too?

  • Great-- Jeff Beck's Jazz rendition is so beautiful as well--Love this Syreeta song....thanks

  • so good!

  • & Joe Buddens' I Couldn't Help It track off of Padded Room

wow & Joe & Prodigy beefing lmao

  • So Haunting.....So Beautiful!

  • this is originally a song written by stevie wonder for jeff beck...

  • No, Jeff Beck covered the song it wasn't written for him. Syreeta's version of the song was released 1st on her 1974 album "Stevie Wonder Presents: Syreeta" Becks album "Blow By Blow" that featured his version wasn't released until March of 1975.

  • It was written for Syreeta originally. Actually the lyrics are deeper when she sings it because it describes her relationship with Stevie Wonder. By the time she recorded this, they were divorced.

  • The lyrics are so beautiful so poignant. I relate to them so much and would assume everyone else can relate to them from some point in their life.

  • totally agreed. i kinda get hurt each time i listen to this song. this song makes me recall memories of the girl i loved the best in my life.

  • wow, ive only ever known this as a "jeff beck" song

  • The lyrics just get me every time. Beautiful

  • por que hemos dejado de ser amantes..

las cosas no tienen a veces respuestas..

  • i am a big prodigy fan, but the original is far more beautiful than diamonds.

this is one i can enjoy more in it's original form.

  • Love this..can someone post Heavy Day by her. I love how Minnie Riperton hits that High note at the end.

  • Her lips don't even move!!!

  • lol

  • That's when you know you can really sing ( :

  • i disagree cause sampling can be quite complex.....AND NOT EVERYBODY CAN GET BEHIND THE MACHINES AND WORK THE MAGIC THAT CAN BE MADE FROM SAMPLING......IT TAKES A SKILL TO DO IT.....AND MAKE PEOPLE ROCK TO YOUR BEAT

  • true...

  • wow this my first time hearing the HNIC sample......its sick...Just Blaze sped it up a lil and freaked it!

  • check out "diamonds" by prodigy

  • Syreeta's version is the best.

  • i love Beck's version, but this one is awesome too. The vocals are a bit spooky, but at the same time so beautiful

  • Both versions are awesome. Listen to "I can't give back the love I feel for you" by Syreeta which Jeff also remade.

  • put this whole album on PLEASE!!!

  • go buy it PLEASE!!!

  • I HAVE THE ALBUM AND THE CD!!!!!! I thought it would be nice for others to hear it..that's ALL !!!!!!!

  • some of the most BEAUTIFUL lyrics I've ever heard...Exponentially lovely !

  • Damn... this song is a definition for beauty...

  • beautifull!!

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • R.I.P. Syreeta

    Love your music

  • Prodigy sampled this on HNIC "diamond"

  • she was so pretty!!!!and so is this song.

  • Really sad lyrics... GJ Stevie and Syreeta though you can't expect much less from him.

  • does anybody know of any similar songs from back then?

  • I hear a bit of Stevie's "Girl Blue", melody & chord-wise, in this song....from the same time period.

But if you listen to the Main Ingredient's cover of "Girl Blue" on UTube, the similarities to this composition may be easier to hear.

  • This is too beautiful

  • yo, this song gives me butterflies....did Stevie write this?

  • yes. jeff beck covered this on his 'blow by blow' album (1975)

  • Stevie wrote it for Jeff to play on that album. To make up for taking back Superstition, which he originally wrote for Jeff to do also.

  • I think the "compensation" song for the Superstition fiasco was Thelonius, not this one. Syreeta's version (actually Stevie's version with Syreeta on vocals) of Cause We've Ended As Lovers was released earlier than Jeff's version. Thelonius on the other hand is something that Stevie never released in any form. And Thelonius is a bit similar to Superstition :) Maybe we're both right, but if I'd had to choose a song which Stevie made especially for Jeff Beck, it would be Thelonius.

  • this was sampled by Mobb Deep...the very beginning part....this song is beast!

  • Hearing Syretta Wright makes you understand how Stevie Wonder fell in love with this angelic sounding lady. R.I.P

  • wow where were you purists when they took music and home economics out of the innercity schools? Are you making a concerted effort to teach music to the next generation? Naw, your busy fighting a fools war with some of the best survivors in the game. Rap samples are just like America, stolen but we all got to live wit it. Teach or shut your your trap.

  • this song is compelling... her voice is one of a kind...

  • It's hard to match this voice, but Erykah Badu sounds like her a little bit as well.

  • OMG, I'm so glad someone finally posted this. I remember when it came out in the mid 70's. I bought it on i-tunes this year. I love it. Thank you for sharing.

  • themtb2003 (6 months ago)

LOOK! Parrers have such LITTLE talent, they RIP from people WITH talent, to get "inspired". But what if I were to RIP the MAIN HOOK from your rap AND its Music and just change the words. What if I made it BIG doing WHOLE ALBUMS ripping OTHER people's raps and hook lines. HOW MANY of you would think I had Skillz? NONE. SO STOP RIPPING REAL ARTISTS and LEARN HOW TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT! GEEZ![[[[2]]]] themtb2003, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!

  • Just an amazing song. Absolutely beautiful. I get teary listening to it.

  • Agreed on the Rap is Crap - soooo boring now, and only portays anger and "up you mate"

Now Stevie Wonder - Wonderful, sad - have a listen to Jeff Becks version - both are absolutrly Beautiful

  • What a beautiful song!her voice is so pure and crystal clear.

  • syreeta had the prettiest voice, and her first two records were great

  • THIS is black music. Sounding like NO ONE ELSE. We as a people cannot continue to make CRAP that sound just like other artists. RAP is Not unique in no way. And social relevance is lost in rap. Issues like obama, or Police brutality, Or wrongful imprisonment...RARELY acted on. Perhaps RAPPED about, but they are not activists on matters.

REAL blacks make what they WANT not what they see OTHERS making and selling. Stevie didnt think "this will be top 10" did he?Its just a good song.

  • you shouldn't discredit an art form as a whole...remember there's a many of 70's and 60's soul performers that could equally be claimed as being negative. There's many positive and uplifting artist..they just don't receive the exposure due to their choice to not follow the mainstream.

  • Preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeach!

  • ooh shut up

  • thet is michael sembello on acoustic guitar, later found fame with the song maniac

  • great song, i bet it's about her break up with Stevie

  • If i'm not mistaken this is the same tune as Jeff Beck's. Who covered who? She is awesome by the way and so is Beck!

  • Beck Covered Syreeta. 'Cause "Blow By Blow" Came Out In 1975, & "Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta" Was Released In I Believe '74. I've Got Both Albums. Great Song. Stevie Wonder Is A Genius.
