What the rich and powerful don't seem to understand because of their greed and incompetence, is that they themselves benefit from the construction of a welfare state, a unionized workforce, fair wages, good conditions and employment safety
It leads to increased purchasing power and a will to consume, which leads to higher demand, which leads to increased profits, which leads to the corporations investing in expanding production and hiring employees and so on. Not to mention productivity boosts
@atosafi1 And if this is not done, and you instead try to force the European people to accept austerity and neoliberal economic policies which the last 30 years have proved do not work then all you will end up with is poverty, desperation, misery and the like, which is a breeding ground for extremism and radicalism, and sooner or later all that anger, frustration and hopelessness are going to explode in social unrest, political instability, economic turmoil, ethnic conflicts and class struggle.
The greed, incompetence, stupidity and short-sightedness of the current political leadership and top strata of society will inevitably lead us down the dark path of the early 20th century, as the current, loosely-organized social unrest, political instability, economic turmoil, ethnic conflicts and class struggle continue to spread and eventually mushroom into greater activities under the sway of demagogues, and eventually lead to revolutions, war, oppression, despotism and genocide.
I'm so glad he is running under the Republican ticket because everytime he brings up the constitution in debates he shows the Republican party how far their beliefs have strayed from our founding fathers and the constitution. Nobody else pushes the issue of the commander in chief going to war without the approval of congress, because if they get elected, they want that power.
the Chinese are broke and when their housing bubble breaks you will see their debt is as high as their GDP, so Larry here is wrong and what you see around the world is the stage being set for WW3 and the fight for Eurasia will begin in earnst
Jesus Christ. To hear this man say that congress fears occupy wall street is frightening because that is what I suspected all along. There is no reason they need to put the United States under military rule other than to maintain and increase current forms of oppression. I bet there are people in an office somewhere thinking about how they only have until the spring time to come up with a way to scare the public into submission. I hope they don't win.
wilkerson talking about the big banks and oligarchy who really run this country. finally, the truth is told by someone who would know and can't be dismissed as a conspiracy theorist.
It's strange seeing a Republican you can actually respect. Wilkerson reminds us that there was once a time where conservatives were also people who worked for the good but just had a different way of going about things; these days it seems that conservatives are either psychopaths or brainwashed zombies (mostly depending on how much money they have). If we could once again have conservatives like Wilkerson then maybe the democratic system in America could actually be worth something.
@zephyrsimon I want to vote for someone that respects peace and sees why we need a strong middle class not a peaceful Scrooge. That is what Ron Paul represents. Trying to have peace with greedy scum. You can't have peace without out Justice. Peace is not apathy.
@zephyrsimon Ron Paul is a apathymonger. Not a Peacemonger. That is why I am voting third arty for president. ALL the candidaites from the two party illusion (including Ron Paul) suck. They all have polices that would support the rich. I am voting for a Sen Sanders like person for president.
@captcrais101 yup, we should vote for a president that allows infinite inflationary monetary policies that would destroy the dollar that the middle class depends on. We should vote for a president that forbids people to become rich because we all know that all rich people obtained their wealth through deceit and other illegal means. We should pay more than 30% of our income tax so that the government has enough money to do health care because they are very capable of helping others
@captcrais101 I completely agree with you. We should raise the taxes on rich, middle, and poor class so that the government can increase their revenue. Who else other than the brilliant government can spend money more smartly and efficiently? You? We cannot let the people who worked at their pathetic minimum wage job and spend their own money by themselves. They are too stupid. Only governments can do proper investments that help the economy.
He said OLIGARCHY. This is not coming from some true blue progressive; this is coming from the former chief of staff for Colin Powell. Now if it takes a life-long Republican to say this, you now we're up itch creek.
The Republican Candidates are SOOOOOOOO fucking terrible (with exception to 1) that it is almost as if there is a CONSPIRACY to funnel votes towards the Democrats thus limiting the vote to one of two corporate shills. The US is not a democratic country. The US is NOT a free country. The US is an aristocratic corporate fuedal affair based on wage slavery and hell bent on gluttonous ruin of the eco-system. If you are for it... you are a suicidal maniac. "Reject the system dictating the norms."
Ron Paul is a dinosaur, a racist homophobe stuck in 1970. He's Lester Maddox in a lab coat.
Amazingly, he's the most morally viable candidate among the whole slate of characters running for the Presidency. Everybody else in the GOP is a cog, a puppet of the point one percenters - just like any Democrat would be, Obama, Clinton or otherwise.
2012 is a write-off. Anybody that gets elected is a tool. 2016, of course, may prove to be a much more historically important election.
Great interview. It's good to hear Wilkerson being interviewed on wider issues nowadays, but I wish Paul would stop alluding to the possible emergence of a far right-wing political party, and realize that, since 9/11, The Patriot Act, TSA etc., it's already happened in slow motion, within the established parties. Wilkerson is fully up to speed on this, but Paul seems unable to see the wood for the trees.
Like, Wilkerson's assessment of immigration laws in the next decades. United States real estate is and will be selling on the cheap for the next 10 years. Senario: Crash the economy, sell prime realestate at discount.Clean water and transportation of the Great Lakes is already coveted by the world. The wealthy bankers already know, they must continue to strip local and state rights to serve up the rest of the United States to the Global rich. Please be active in your local and state meetings.
No offense TRNN but your ear-shattering intro tune is the kind of thing i have nightmares about. I love to watch your vids, but have to make sure they are muted when i load them up.
I appreciated what Wilkerson had to say regarding elite/banking/finance groups, quite content to let Obama stay in office. This has been my biggest disappointment in our president, he really did not make the changes he needed to make (Elizabeth Warren for example). How clever the pimps in Washington are.
The "far" right would not have government in damn near anything, including our military in police operations. I consider Libertarians to be far right. Call it the fascist right or something else.
@BoredomCorner You're ARE rather bored, now aren't you. Melding of corporations and government. With a small government, corporations don't have much to meld with
@kroovyandcal exactly... the only way to beat the corporations is to emphasise individual freedoms... not group identities or other forms of collectivism.
I sense that Wilkerson is a good man but I can see why they ran rings round Colin Powell if this guy was his main advisor... he has very little mental fire power.
Lawrence Wilkerson. I like this guy. Staunchly independent military man that speaks his mind. If you want to see more of him I suggest watching the documentary AIPAC: The Israel Lobby, of which he is a major contributor.
Good interview as always. We need to return the nation to the people but not the Paul way, the economic cost is too great for the poor for us to sacrifice them. We need to offer an alternative to Obama that the left will embrace, a progressive alternative. Only by telling the neo-libs and neo-cons that we will not play their game can we win. That means turning OWS into a voting machine and replacing the establishment with a new order. We have an opportunity through Americans Elect to do this.
I've seen most of TRNN's interviews with Lawrence Wilkerson and I respect his honest, no bull shit responses. Something you will never see on "main stream" media.
Yup, I've been saying it for years. US elites are protecting themselves against the rest of us. After all, they have far more in common w/their fellow shysters & business criminals internationally than they do w/other US citizens. Hell, most of these people are dual-citizen Israelis, & they make no bones about the fact that their only real allegiance is to terrorist, apartheid Israel.
paul would only be ending a war he helped install when voting for the invasion of afghan. as for "closing all foreign bases", this would only create a power vacuum and other super powers would move in for control/dominance. in the most general sense, paul is an isolationist, even when it comes to state to state in the US. i'm more of a ralph nader kind of guy-- thinking we should be the "humanitarian" (not bully) of the the world. and his domestic policy (taxes in particular) are not progressive
@Waystheskyburns just b/c he agrees with paul in certain areas means he's best friends forever and will protect him in every avenue in the future? no.
@donnyforte2 Did I say that? Love how you have to back your argument by putting words in my mouth. "best friends...protect him forever". You do know that Paul and Nader see eye to eye on foreign policy, but disagree only on domestic policy because Ralph Nader is a "progressive" in terms of domestic policy.
@Waystheskyburns no, they don't see eye to eye on "everything that's foreign policy".
"but disagree only on domestic policy "
domestic policy is real what matters in the end here. if we don't turn things around domestically, it doesn't matter whose foreign policy is "better" in the end.
Same here... I'll vote crazy and agreeable 50% of the time over bought out completely like Obama and the republican party any day now.
And also what the guest here said about the American military being brought onto our own land, basically because of OWS and their own fears of a revolution movement. is now clear as day, they're preparing for an American revolt.
@BoredomCorner Yes. I don't believe Paul is a segregationist and could care less if he believes in evolution, creationism or neither. I'll take a creationist who believes in civil liberties, personal freedoms, and the Christian Just War theory over an evolutionist who thinks government has all the answers to run your life and feels justified to spread democracy around the world at the point of a gun.
Do you know how many countries fight wars outside their own territories right now? The number is really, really low. Today, some countries that are doing really well do not even have a military that is worth mentioning. They protect themselves by having strong diplomatic bilateral as well as multilateral relationships, the opposite of isolationism. You are confusing isolationism with imperialism. REAL isolationalist countries invest almost everything into the military.
@AduhAwas Maybe you need to learn what the word means. Ron Paul wants to trade with all nations. And he compains about the LACK OF treaties (Article II, Second 2, Clause 2) between USA and other nations. Explain to me how this makes him an "isolationist".
You cannot judge a news show on one issue. Overall TheRealNews is doing a very good job, much better than any mainstream outlet. When one of my favorite news sources disagrees with me, my own research efforts just explode, and usually i learn a lot.
It's a shame that because Ron Paul is an ideologue he looks so good when contrasted against the sell-outs. An Austrian economics fan who hates homosexuals and is fine using bureaucracy to keep out Mexicans...plus he would do NOTHING about all the banking issues covered by the Real News, as he is diametrically opposed to things like Glass-Steagall!
@asphyxiafeeling Ron Paul just signed the personhood pledge, which makes a fertilized human embryo "a person". Ron Paul is a fucking nutjob and just LOST MY VOTE
@monkeypeopleofearth He also signed Grover Norquist's "Don't Tax the Obscenely Wealthy" pledge. In other words, just like most of the other Republifundietards, he's Grover's bitch.
@Homer177 if only the REPUBLICANS could find a authentic conservative. All they have is a bunch of religious nutjobs... I mean seriously. Michele Bachmann? Rick Santorum? Rick Perry? I understand why people are embarrassed of the GOP
