dont even start with after effects. after effects is very advanced and takes time to learn. i suggest starting with something like Pinnacle, Sony Vegas, or Magix Video Edit Pro 12.

Actually after effects isnt all that hard, you just gotta follow some tutorials and then apply what you learn

After Effects is wonderful, but expensive. Make sure you get the Production bundle and student discount, then it's well worth it.

After Effects is above $1000. It's not a starters program. Try something less complex unless you're taking courses that actually specify in things like this.

after effects is free if you know where do find it ;) but yea after effects is very hard to use because its meant for the hardcore video editors

I bought a student version of AFX 7 about a year ago. It's a huge program, but it's very intuitive as well. The best way to learn it, is to work through the Videocopilot(dot)net tutorials. But be aware of the fact, that it's NOT a 3D program such as Maya or 3ds Max. It's about compositing and (up to a certain point) design. Further: to do this tutorial you need a very expensive plug-in called "Particular". Start with the trial version you can get on Adobe's website. Then decide. Have fun :D
