The Liberal prime minister Robert Menzies let the British do this and to think the Liberals and Nationals today consider Menzies a hero he did nothing for 16 years in the 1950s and 1960s while the rest of the world was going streets ahead in science technology industialization and value adding via manufacturing goods from the raw materials from primary industries Menzies didnt even like being Australian he was a cardboard cut out pom
@mnbalfour1985 And that's exactly what Britain and the Gov General wanted, a puppet. Why do you think Gough Whitlam was sacked? Liberals have been and always will be power puppets, but now with Julie in power Labor isn't much better. And that's why the last election had more independents voted in than any other election in Australian history, including our last hung parliament.
keep mining your uranium and sell to the chinese you silly fuck! we dropped here due to low population and vast land! we keep you safe with our capabilities! sorry about your roos! your still part of our monarchy show some respect you pesent theif
@samjonesmufc No, Britain doesn't keep us safe with anything anymore. We rely on the USA and China now, and have done for decades. Prince Charles himself supports Australia becoming a republic, and with attitudes like yours I'm not surprised. And you didn't just kill Roos, you killed a lot of innocent Aboriginal people with radiation poisoning. Keep building Mosques in Oxford you silly fuck, you will be relying on us soon enough.
@samjonesmufc And Winston Churchill wanted to 'keep us safe' by putting all of our troops in Africa during WW2 to keep your army safe, while the Japanese were getting closer and closer to Australia. That kind of attitude from the Monarchy doesn't deserve respect. I support an Australian republic, it's not like we will be losing out on anything. In fact we will gain wealth from not having to pay you ponces any royalties...
i like how ppl use terms like "tiny nuke" and "beautifull" and its ok because it wasnt in a "populated area" u stupid fuckin assholes it was populated, with native australians, now anywhere there has been testing is useless and all the ppl in these areas have birth defects and are rampant with cancer. HIP HIP HOORAY FOR NUCLEAR TESTING AND HUMAN IDIOCY
i know man, this gets me so pissed off, my dad gave me a book on maralinga testing when i was 12yo. opened my eyes up early. good on you man, im sick of ppl like this fuking everything up
They are to help measure various things to do with the mushroom cloud formation height etc. They are i assume little rockets fired at the different times during the detonation.
These tests contaminated many Aborigines because they didnt understand they werent able to read the signs but British and Australian Governments didnt care!
Off you go.Ex Aussie servos mate. They aint lyin.Straight for the horses mouth buddy.Oh sorry you are going with the British version.Your so smart.Off you go then.
So what. Why does my opinion bother you so much its people like you that fuck the world up because everyone has to listen to you. I never said they were groovy. You fucking zip it.
A British nuclear bomb, British scientists, British everything.......Ahh, but Detonated on Australian soil. Bastards. Didnt want to fuck with their country so they dropped it in Australia.
flyboy172r - yeah, bastards - they missed a populated area! Still, Australia has shitloads of unpopulated areas and UK doesn't because of all the the fucking illegal immigrant bogus asylum seekers that labour party government cunts have invited in for one vote each so they can finish off the destruction of UK.
Yeah I know - Ive been to the UK before, I know exactly how small it is. That still makes no difference to me. I study physics (Including nuclear physics) at university, and I have studied the US and British series of testing quite extensively. I know exactly how dangerous it is and the risks involved and I believe Britain overstepped its mark in directly testing on foreign soil; and ESPECIALLY 'cheeky' when they refuse to compensate illness or damage as a direct result of the tests.
@toweronepower - If you told an Aussie that, on *AUSTRALIAN* soil, he will rip your fucking head off. Maybe 200 years ago the poms ran the country, but their position is pretty much ceremonial now. Besides...we are moving closer and closer to a republic. Won't be long now.
@toweronepower - You seem to be under the impression that Britain *owns* Australia, its currency, its assets and its people. Boy are you mistaken...Imperialism was *so* 18th century...Get with the times mate. You have absolutely no power or influence over our government, only that what a trading partner or ally would have. If you even attempted what you did in 1975, your GG would be booted out faster that you could say 'god save the queen'.
The only thing 'unstable' is the test site at Maralinga. And perhaps you can comment as to the cancer cluster of ex-servicemen and veterans that were in the British and Australian forces? They were knowingly exposed to radiation, declassified MoD documentation has since revealed that. And tower shots can only reduce the amount of fallout, not remove it entirely.
That’s not the argument. I agree, Britain does not have the space to test a nuclear weapon. My argument is whether they should have tested a nuclear weapon on foreign soil, all technicalities about commonwealth and whatnot aside. The general consensus here in Australia is that, given a referendum, Australians would have overwhelmingly voted no to nuclear testing on our soil – by ANY government.
@flyboy172r even though many brits today despise our colonial past, in that time it simply was the fact that we could go anywere and do what we want, because we were one of the most powerfull nations on the planet and many of that genration were in the mind set that we still had the largest empire known to mankind, even though we didn't anymoreat that time. But thank god that isn't the way things are today.
Well that's stating fact, obviously, but the question is not of room - but of whether or not the British government was welcome to come and blow up those great big dirty bombs on our soil. The general consensus was that they were not welcome at all then, and their treatment of now ex-servicemen after cancer clusters were identified is appalling. I stand by that.
@flyboy172r were the fuck is there to drop it england? ohh right nowhere. and its not like there are millions of acres of deserts in australia or anything
I've made this point a million times now...I'm not trying to argue relative sizes of England and Australia, because I'd be arguing from a point of fact. I'm trying to argue that it was wrong for the bombs to be tested in Australia. And don't get me to explain why I think that, just cycle through the comments. I think I've made a fairly good case.
@flyboy172r There is no point trying to tell them that what they did was wrong. As far as they are concerned, they own Australia and it is theirs to do with as they please. Even though we get no support from them whatsoever, and still have to pay them royalties.
Where would we drop the bomb?! You have like miles and miles of desert (uninhabited) and there is practically nowhere in the UK that big and uninhabited.
@TheCGIMaster Yes, we have miles and miles of uninhabited desert, so they decided to test them dangerously close to an Aboriginal settlement. Great idea! And also, Britain is surrounded by miles and miles of uninhabited ocean. You could have tested them out at sea. The USA did that a few times.
Britain needs the ocean, some of the most important docks in the world are in Britain. Also, unlike some countries, there are ships constantly going in and out of the docks, trading goods etc. But, I won't bother arguing anymore, because one comment sums this whole argument up. It happened, we can't change it, also it happened many years ago, so why bother arguing?
There isn't a village... the area was inhabited by aborigines, but they were moved off and only live their now. Maralinga is in the Prohibited Area.
I made sure I was right on wikipedia, and am not attacking you or anything, :P but it also says that this test, the first from an aeroplane by the British, was called 'Kite,' which I was not aware of. Just thought that might interest you if you didn't already know, :P

Typical Ital....
I'm not discreditting anything. What I am saying is our Tridents can do far more Damage than the TZAR as they can target multiple cities dufuss....
Plus they are carried in our SSBN's. You cannot shoot an SSBN down :)

goddesslush 2 years ago
Yeah but TZAR cannot be carried via missile delivery systems i.e it can be neutralized :)
I believe the greater you go in terms of megatons the lesser the effect. In other words 100 MT is not double the power of say 50.
Far better to have many warheads on each missile targetting individual assets/cities.
