  • I was fifteen and heard this on an album. Played it over and over. 1980 79

  • my ears have orgasms when i listen to this song.

  • I know a Liza ??????

  • Who agrees that the original recordings are so much better than the digital remastered s***t!... I have all the jam and wellers albums, who else has noticed that his/their digital remastered stuff has sounds and notes missing? YOU HAVE TO BE A PROPER FAN, or at least musically eared to notice that.

  • the best they ever done

  • Yesterday's girl lives in a dream, she lives in a shck just by the sea.

  • great tune this one, lyrically weller is clear and precise more than can be said for the rubbish nowadays

  • I remember listening to this, sneaking home in the early morning - from my girlfriends house (who became my wife!) just rocking to this. All of my life lay ahead, and the small town we were in couldnt hold us - I was the King of Rowayton Conn! So good to go back...Great song!

  • Beautiful.....love The Jam, one of the great bands.

  • sounds like early pink floyd.

  • @disjoinedchip2 You are right about that. When interviewed about the extras cd Weller told of how he wanted the song to sound "Quasi Physcodelic like Syd Barrett".

  • Thanks for posting this tune, I used to play it to my daughter when she was a toddler, she is 23 now and its still one of her favourite tunes.

  • this is amazing

  • Thanks for the posting brings back great memorys

  • what a tune thanks for the posting

  • Man, I know the rock out in some of the song but when you take the acoustic stuff like Liza Radley, English Rose, That's Entertainment...they would make a good folk group haha!!

  • It was because of songs like Liza Radley that i became a life long Jam fan. I used to play the first four albums until i knew all the lyrics by rote. Back then they were the most awesome and yet relevant band around and i remember feeling numb when i heard they were splitting up. It was like losing a mate in 'The Burning. Now i know how fortunate we were to have been there then, on the threshold of adulthood and casting innocent eyes. opened wider and gazing further because of the song content

  • @damos300 man u jst summd it all up. thanx

  • @damos300 man u jst summd it all up. thanx

  • Forgot how good his song was. Used to play it as a kid on my accoustic many years ago. Gonna dust off my old Gibson and see if i can build up callouses again. Thanks for posting.

  • 'She's not quite right, she dont fit in with a small town'

Happy days takes me back to my youth, thanks for uploading one of my favourites.

  • @Disquieted1 No Shame in that

  • @Oxmix64 Certainly not :o)

  • I could (and probably will) listen to this every day for the rest of my life. Blinding song and sometimes makes me wanna cry. The Jam will always be the bollocks!!!!!!

  • GOOSEBUMPS! Thanks for this. ;0)

  • I always come back to this !! B side of Start but another classic Weller tune !!! Love it !! God Bless.

  • Thanks mate - glad you like it. Thanks for the comment!

  • My favorite song by the Jam. I remember hearing my brother play their records when I was a kid. He used to buy the Imports from England. They didn't have a label in the States at the time. He met the band twice when they came here to New York. He spoke with Paul Weller one time. He commented on my brothers John Lennon t-shirt he was wearing. Turns out Paul Weller is a big Beatles fan.

  • Your brother had a good taste in music prob still does, paul weller is playing in my hometown in the summer, hopefully I get to see him

  • @elmolewis1 Please forgive the lateness of my reply - your comment slipped by.

Your excellent post just shows how a: The Jam track across all generations and b: a little history there! Nice post friend ;) You be safe now!

  • @elmolewis1 "turns out Paul Weller is a big Beatles fan". NOOOOO? I didn't know that before. I guess him mentioning his love for the Beatles in every interview must have just..passed me by.

  • @nickslick75 Sorry but I don't follow The Jam. I don't know what Paul Weller says in interviews regarding his love for the Beatles.

  • @elmolewis1 Don't listen to his interviews. Don't listen to his songs... alright, pal, whatever. Well, thanks for "revealing" his love for the Beatles. Fascinating stuff.

  • @elmolewis1 weller was hugely influenced by the beatles ,the who ,the small faces, the kinks, and also motown and US soul/R`n`B like james brown etc

  • sheeple. what a great word. sums it up perfectly. well done xenoxiq x

  • Thanks man - been using that word for years ;p

    Cheers for the comment!

  • @MOD725 re: sheople/sheeple..

    Be scene, not HERD ;D

    The Boy About Town.

  • Hehehe - nicely put ;p

    Thanks for the comment mate.

  • My Dad dedicated this song to me because of the bit that says 'She's not quite right yeah she don't fit in' xD

  • Good! It's better to be different ;p Stand out from the "sheeple" around you!

Thank you for the comment ;)

  • great post thanks

  • You're welcome, glad you like it!

    Thank you for commenting.

  • It's about someone who thinks outside of the box and doesn't follow the pack, and therefor is shunned by the crowd. Maybe a bit like Paul Weller growing up in Woking. 'It's for there lives only she cries'

  • Interesting analysis - Thank you for the comment!

  • this was wellers elanor rigby

  • Thank you for commenting! ;)

  • liza is a prostitute in a small town

  • Im singing this too. B-side to Start

good bargain id say. "in her mind

she knows there dream of life they

    wont ever find"

    Weller with awesome lyrics.

  • I had a conversation about this track that went on for about 3 hours once ;p

MInd you, I was extrememely intoxicated at the time!

    Thanks for the comment ;)

  • Haven't heard that fine number in awhile ;my LPs et al. are in deep storage.

Fine job illustrating. 25 or so yrs. back, I dated a woman who was 'different' so this song has always held special meaning. A small prayer for A. S., may she be well.

  • For me, one of the Jam's strengths was that the songs they played could all evoke strong memories and feelings (Thick as Thieves, anyone?).

Glad to see I'm not the only one ;) Thanks for the comment!

  • Thick as Thieves mit der orchestral version ist ein grosse klassiker track Jahwohl!!!!

  • Icn bin eine "tit" Herr Smithers Jones ich war thinking of...
