Not sure what you're getting at with the Montana and Italy comment, The borders between Canada and America haven't moved much since the initial colonization period, and Italy has enjoyed many decades of stability and general unity. Like you said yourself, many of the countries 'cross the Adriatic are very recent, Croatia only being 13ish years old. This is going to lead to some geographic confusion.
