And PAPER is derived from wood.

@JediLink123 That's one of the main reasons Rock was called Rock, because of the Rock Paper Scissors approach in the weaknesses. That, and the obvious similarities to musical terms. Rock, Roll, Bass, Treble, Blues, etc.

It was just the direction they took with the game in general.

It didn't take itself too seriously. It was dressed up to be kid-friendly. It was, but damn, that game could be so frustratingly hard!!
