Cover of Rascals song which could have been written for Dusty.... A beautiful sensitive version of the song.....so good live......I don't think Dusty ever realised how great she was live......She was so obsessed with perfection and Getting It Right like that wonderful song from the 1989 film.....You're made of love.....Hey it's all right someone understands.....reach out take a hand....You'll know that your getting it right.....
At the time, I was so caught up in my beloved Rolling Stones to realise how good Dusty was. Like the Stones, she too was part of the British invasion of the 60's. She was the origial blue-eyed soul songstress, and she broke new ground in the world of pop music. She was an amazing talent.
This great lady is the personification of all the good times, nostalgia, talent & perfection of not only her era but an inspiration for us all. Before her was nothing because Dusty was not there, the past that had her,had their own heaven & we now still have that heaven through seeing her & listening to her now & the future like us now & before will marvel at her looks & voice, hair & clothes.100% all the way.RIP angel
@samnyc2 Well I wouldnt compare Mariah Carey and Dusty Springfield because Dusty is more class and had better vocals than Mariah. Mariah Carey is ok but not my type of singer.
@psirou Just listened to the Rascals version as i`d never heard it before and i agree with you, Dusty`s version is class but the Rascals is slightly better. It has a bit more edge. Thanks for mentioning it as i`m now going to buy it. Cheers.
her voice just flies.......soars......floats.......is free......like her beautiful soul.......thank you dusty for your gift.......the gift of you.....love you girl
I love these videos! Brings back a lot of memoriesI found a 60's set that seems really cool - it has Dusty Springfield, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits and Small Faces - reelinintheyears(dot)com/britishinvasion
Oh I think she did get the credit she was due...true she went out of fashion for a while but thank christ for Youtube that we can, at last, see and hear all this stuff
great video...great voice...a time when female singers used their voices to win fans over and not dancing all over the place with their boobs hanging out.
Even though I prefer the original version by The Young Rascals, the late great Dusty Springfield gives a very enjoyable rendition here. She was a unique talent, that's for sure! Thanks for sharing this memorable clip with us! :)
The song does have that "French" feeling because of the squeezbox--this arrangement is close but not identical to the one used on the Young Rascals recording of the same song. Mind you, none of them had pipes like Ms. Springfield . . .
Such a great singer. I know that if I were young in the 60's I would have had such a crush on Dusty Springfield. Great voice, soul, sense of humor, and very attractive.
JBTevere; sunflowermother; oceanbound222 - the story of her arm movements direct from Dustys mouth. She tells it on WLOS bio.......when she was with with The Springfields she was hemmed in between her brother and the other guy and had to keep them by her side. When she went solo she found she had a new found freedom to flap her arms about.....and thus she made the most of it. In her goonish sense of humour she said it made her look like she was swatting flies. She is iabsolutely ncomparable!
@woody7075 that's interesting because I heard another story. On a documentary about Dusty, Lulu said the way she started doing the arm moves is because she would forget the lyrics to her songs so she wrote them on her arms and was always moving her arms up so she could she what was written and from there it just became her thing that she always did. I have a feeling Dusty's answer is more the truth.
I strongly recommend people get hold of Dusty's original recording of this song. Her sense of nuance and controlled emotion leaves me in no doubt she is the finest female singer of the 20th Century.
Response to oceanbound222 Dusty's arm movements are something that is a kind of trademark of hers. I love how she performed. To me it's another way that showed her emotion & how deeply she felt when she sang. Also, a bit of trivia..there's another singer that said Dusty moved her arms because she put some lyrics on them in case she forgot any. I would never know. Dusty was the best and always will be. Thanks for giving so much of yourself to us through your talent. God Bless You Dusty! RIP. *)*
Thank you for posting the classic Dusty Springfield! I grew up listening to her music(I had an older sister who adored her) and hearing her lovely voice and seeing her great style brings back some wonderful memories. She left us much too soon.
OMG- you hate on Dusty Springfield TOO? It's not just Diana Ross? Look, Dusty Springfield was one of the most distinct vocal talents of the 2nd half of the 20th century. Those "arm gestures" were a trademark- as much a part of the show as Tina Turner's legs. And the vocal performance i just heard was NOT hindered in any way.
@mnmcv1 Preach it baby! you nailed it on every account. Dusty is and forever will be one of the premiere vocalists of all times. A one of a kind and doubtlessly brilliant.
If the arm gestures bother you, oceanbound222, then just shut your eyes and listen. Sheesh! How could anything distract you from that incredible voice?
