If anyone knows where online to find Patton Oswalt's bit about a lounge entertainer singing "LOVE ON THE ROCKS," please send a message to this YouTube account (hcabmellaK). The bit is so genuinely hilarious.
why do poeple disect this guys sets into little details? hes the only comedian ive seen people do this to. standup is not an art in the traditional sence. there is no secret message or deeper point to what hes saying. Hes just making fun of the crazy idea of a kid interviewing him. Its funny because he is constantly sarcastic and self depricating and you can use that kind of humor on a child.
Actually, he explicitly prefaces his strainingly positive response to the question "So what was it like to work with Brad Bird" with the comment at 00:40 that "You can't be sarcastic to a little kid".
So, yes, the comments that follow are saying that it was painful to work with Brad Bird, and that it was painful to have to withhold sarcasm on that matter.
No. You infer too much from a simple joke. How do you know exactly what he meant?
He just meant he can't be his usual sarcastic, snarky self to a little kid. That was the point of the whole setup of the joke. To make a comment on working with Brad Bird makes no sense to the form of the joke. Trust me. I know joke writing and formula.
He says, "It's a nightmare" at the end. Meaning matching kids' enthusiasm and the strain it causes him.
No, it looks beautiful to me. Imagine standing just a couple of feet from the first row. Like a classic punk club or a livingroom show. Hardcore, man.
Any comments unrelated to Patton being a sex machine are mostly bullshit.
Owned.

Brad Bird is a nightmare? I guess that's why his fellow animators designed the Incredibles' villain, Syndrome, to look like him.

no his trying to keep positive and non-sarcastic was a nightmare

That's not what he was saying...
Philfa 2 years ago
Well, you're right -- those aren't "the precise words" he was saying, but wasn't that what he was effectively saying?
TheLogicJunkie 2 years ago
I don't think so. I think he was saying answering children's questions with matched enthusiasm is a nightmare.
Philfa 2 years ago 2
Not at all. He was saying that he can't match children's enthusiasm, and his attempts are horrible and nightmarish.

Haha, yeah, everyone is just standing there looking at him. Strange situation for a gig. Seems like what you see in a nightmare.
