A true sportsman. No boat to chase down or tire out the fish with. You want a real fight that gives the shark a chance and will wear ya' out? If you get spooled, then too bad, the fish has won! The beach is the way to do it. Many folks don't believe that you can catch fish of any size nearshore. Before any piers were built, my grandad and uncle used to catch Cobia off the beach. Sometimes of good size too. They would get crab from the bay the night before and hit the sand early the next day.

This stood for a few years until one of your fellow countrymen caught one bigger. I'm always intrigued by the Cobia, as they are a very unique fish. What fighters!

There is one thing about land based shark fishing that people really don't seem to understand. So many people complain that having bait in the water will draw in more sharks. What nobody seems to even realize is that these baits are kayaked out WAY further then people are swimming. Most baits are kayaked out 300+ yards off the beach. We aren't bringing the sharks to the bait, we're taking the bait to the sharks. We do not, I repeat, DO NOT, put bait in depths that people swim in.

It does not make the environment unnatural, there are tons and tons of fish surrounding people. Everywhere I go where I wade fish, smaller fish peck at my feet. There are injured fish everywhere, that one bait/dead fish in the water IS NOT the only fish in the water injured and is not the only dead fish in the water, I can assure you of that.

The reason why big sharks come into shallow water is because it's where the smaller fish like to hang out. They need to eat.

I personally kayak my bait out appr. 300-500yds and drop it off and paddle back. 9/10 times the bait I'm using comes right out of the surf that the shark are already swimming in. I'm not chumming, I'm not doing anything radical to attract shark closer in...THE SHARK ARE ALREADY THERE!! I'm just catching them and releasing...
