There is a difference between getting through something and barely making it, and understanding what ur playing to the point that ur really playing it well. Look at every aspect of it. Tempo, technique, hand mvmt, flow, etc. Break it down.

Very Good. I understand this is video is quite old, so im sure you've improved alot, but your technique suffers dramatically in the faster sections Particularly your left hand. Keep those fingers on the stick, and use alittle more arm on the right hand. But all things considered, that was brilliant.

i played this solo in 8th grade. I couldn't do it at tempo lol. No chops whatsoever! But this kid right here, he's gonna make it big as a drummer! My mom says that to me all the time because i'm so good for a girl snare drummer, but he's amazing!

you were rushing at around 3:01 with those parradiddles and parradiddle diddles. other than that you kept pretty good with the timing. be sure that your pinky on your left hand isnt doing what its doing at 3:15. be sure your diddles around 4:15 arnt different volumes on each hand. also make sure your taps and accents are distinguished dramaticly different but not crazy. other than that awsome. its just simple errors, i tend to have these troubles and often work on them too.
Dude yr really good nice job. But I am a little suspicious about that triplet backsticking part. It appears that u sped it up a little by that speedy gonzales car in the background but I'm sure you are alot better now. Keep drumming
@DrumMaster32396 Thanks for the comment. Nothing is sped up or altered in any way; trust me. That is a four lane avenue way in the back. At that distance and in that small viewing window, cars that are going about 45 mph will appear to me moving extremely fast in that small, distant viewing window.

Traditional grip is with just the left had turned over, like the kid in the video has it. It's called traditional grip because when marching into a battle, the drums were tilted over the hip, and to hit the head square with your left hand, you needed to have the stick held in your hand like that. I've never seen anyone use both hands turned over like that, only the left hand.

At 3:48 it starts looking sped up. When he moves his body or head,it is choppy, and how fast it was going doesnt even look natural. Hopefully this won't disappoint you- marking time and feet, will not be a problem for Jay. He will not need any luck there. Now, he may need some luck in the height and size department when it comes to the physical aspects of marching at the highest levels (top DCI groups). Also, some decision-makers with high-level DCI corps may have a problem with his height in placing him on a snare line; particularly at/near center. All of this assumes no unexpected or significant growth spurt.
who says he will be on a high-level DCI band? height and weight have nothing to do with marking time. anyone can play music on a drum. it takes a pro to play it well while marking time and marching

Between the trees and just behind the fence on the upper left is a boulevard- a wide two-way four lane street with a median in the middle. Cars will appear to move really fast within that small stationary window.

look at the dog. it moves normally, and the trees. There is plenty of evidence that this was not sped up. The cars were just going fast.

At 3:48 it starts looking sped up. When he moves his body or head,it is choppy, and how fast it was going doesnt even look natural. And what superzakman said, how at 3:57 something shoots out, and it looks fake. I am not putting his talent down in the least bit, this kid is amazing. But, it does look a little sped up.

it does look sped up. andddd......... how aboout mark sometime when you play... that i gonna keep you from getting on a good drumline. u might be able to play good without feet. but 9 times out of 10 u wont be standing still and playing......goodluck with those feet... its not easy. goodluck

Hopefully this won't disappoint you- marking time and feet, will not be a problem for Jay. He will not need any luck there. Now, he may need some luck in the height and size department when it comes to the physical aspects of marching at the highest levels (top DCI groups). Also, some decision-makers with high-level DCI corps may have a problem with his height in placing him on a snare line; particularly at/near center. All of this assumes no unexpected or significant growth spurt.

You are right- I would not bother to alter Jay's vids- Why? How? What would be the point? Between the trees and just behind the fence on the upper left is a boulevard- a wide two-way four lane street with a median in the middle. Cars will appear to move really fast within that small stationary window.

Alright...i don't know what's going on- but you look like you are sped up and your dog in the background doesn't. When you are backsticking is when it shows the most. Either way, I'm not judging you. You play a hell of a lot better than i do. If you keep it up i am sure you can do whatever you want with your playing. BD A-line or whatever...
