Sam, thank you for your video post. I am writing this comment from Japan. One of trainers of sales management in Boston where I was in 1990 taught sales techniques based on Ed's book titled "Superselling". Since then, I have been a big fan of Ed McMahon. I am now a cross-cultural trainer, and often quote Ed's words, which go "Sales is a show where a salesperson is an entertainer." I perform my training as an entertainer. I will never forget him.

He should be given the greatest of honors by the House and Senate!! A moment of silence for him should be done in honor of this man!

Ed was a 6x's decorated Pilot in WWII in the Marines, Served in the Korean War and later retired was commissioned as a Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard.

Losing performers are sad but Ed was the only one that risked his life for the USA! I salute his memory!

This has, truly, been one of the saddest couple of days I can remember. I was so sorry to hear about Eds passing. He was, as you say, an American television icon. The death of yet 2 more entertainers is so sad. We were lucky to be a part of the era that included these 3 individuals. The world is less 3, but the heavens are blessed with 3 additional Angels. Ironically it was almost exactly 40 years to the day that our very own Judy Garland died 22nd June 1969. So it seemed very fitting that Sam's Over the Rainbow was probably being played somewhere around the world as Ed McMahon passed away. May he rest in peace. x

I totally loved him on the Tonight Show!!! His laugh was contagious. He was a star in his own right. I watched Star Search until it was over.
