Sam is tha man....him and his brother Matt, They were my neighbors and they were some cool cats. Big-Ups to Sam for paying respect and love for Ed. he was definitely an Icon.
Hey Sam, this is your old neighrbor from Hauser Blvd. in L.A. My Mom was Yvonne and I'm Chris. I even remember your dog (lil dog that looked like a Jack Russell Terrier). I always liked your work, even "Sugar Don't Bite". Good to see you pay homage to Ed. He was household for us all. Get back to me and let me know how you're doing!!!
may god bless you its so nice he did so much for you and may you remember happy times with him, i personally im sadened by this and michael jacksons passing he was everything to me as a singer/songwriter! this was so touching im on my way out and i tryed to hold back my tears so that my makeup wouldny run, rest in peace
I was very moved by this. I had a couple of people whom died unfortunately young in the past whom had announced/introduced me to the crowds and they are still dearly missed.
Sam, thank you for your video post. I am writing this comment from Japan. One of trainers of sales management in Boston where I was in 1990 taught sales techniques based on Ed's book titled "Superselling". Since then, I have been a big fan of Ed McMahon. I am now a cross-cultural trainer, and often quote Ed's words, which go "Sales is a show where a salesperson is an entertainer." I perform my training as an entertainer. I will never forget him.
thanks Sam for your tribute to McMahon. Ed was a man of great statue few know about!
He should be given the greatest of honors by the House and Senate!! A moment of silence for him should be done in honor of this man!
Ed was a 6x's decorated Pilot in WWII in the Marines, Served in the Korean War and later retired was commissioned as a Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard.
Losing performers are sad but Ed was the only one that risked his life for the USA! I salute his memory!
This has, truly, been one of the saddest couple of days I can remember. I was so sorry to hear about Eds passing. He was, as you say, an American television icon. The death of yet 2 more entertainers is so sad. We were lucky to be a part of the era that included these 3 individuals. The world is less 3, but the heavens are blessed with 3 additional Angels. RIP ED, Farrah and Michael.
Sam, this is so immensely touching and so moving!!! I am very grateful as well for the blessings of the Late Ed McMahon and the amazing legacy that he has left for us. Hugs!
The big guy must be getting ready to put on one hell'va big show up there! Ed, then Farah.. now breaking news is reporting (06/25/09 6:30PM) M. Jackson.
As good as it might be, I'm not to anxious to get my ticket punched to see them. Bless them all!
Ironically it was almost exactly 40 years to the day that our very own Judy Garland died 22nd June 1969. So it seemed very fitting that Sam's Over the Rainbow was probably being played somewhere around the world as Ed McMahon passed away. May he rest in peace. x
Beautiful Tribute Sam....You are so right, he was and always will be an American Icon...he was like all of America's gran-pa! Rest In Peace Ed...you will truly be missed.
and Yes, I remember watching you on Star Search too Sam...
Was so sad when I heard the news about Ed McMahon. Such a wonderful tribute to him, Sam. My deepest sympathies, and condolences to his family, and friends.
I watched your Star Search season, as a young girl in 2 high school choirs, and had such a crush on you! :)
I know Rosie got her big start there too...
hearing his voice on your tribute made me think of the Jerry Lewis Telethon that won't have him this year, and how weird that will be. He was such an iconic part of so many things, esp. Johnny Carson. Sad he had money troubles at the end - that should never have happened to such an American legend. your words and sentiments are lovely.
Thank You Sam. I was looking for a special tribute or comment from you, knowing how important Ed McMahon was to your career and life. And thank you Mr. McMahon for being an important part of my growing up. I blame you and Johnny Carson for my difficult times waking up for school after watching the Tonight Show. But the laughs and entertainment will never be like that again.
R.I.P Ed McMahon..... Sam harris I knew I saw you some where along long time ago when watching "The Class" and of course now I rememeber "Star search"
I totally loved him on the Tonight Show!!! His laugh was contagious. He was a star in his own right. I watched Star Search until it was over. He was great with the contestants and he seemed like he actually cared. He will be greatly missed. Thank you Sam for giving your perspective on this wonderfully talented man.
Sam, you are such a genuine person and good old soul. I knew you would have a special tribute v-blog for Ed McMahon up by the end of today. You still have Sand Springs, OK small-town goodness and ethics in you buddy. You remember them that brought you to where you are and never forget a friend. God bless Ed McMahon - a true icon of show business.
I watched you that night when you sang yourself to fame. I know Ed must have been the best mentor and friend to you. God rest his soul and keep him at peace.
sam, what lovely and touching words for mr. mcmahon. i, as well, will never forget his words, " from sand springs oklahoma... sam harris". because of him and starsearch, you came into our lives and touched us all. he won't be forgotten. his encouragement and kind words toward you show what a wonderful person he was. xoxo-vicki

"Star Search" was a million times better than "American Idol" could ever be!
