I just got my 1981 Yamaha 650 Special II running after 15 years of sitting...I cleaned the spark plugs, got a new battery, cleaned out the carbs and gave it some new gas, and it started on the second kick. It wouldn't idle untill it worked all the old gas out of its system, but it ran. Now all i gave to do is buy new tire trubes to replace the old dry rotted ones...
@PJ145 Is the special frame built differently from the regular frame? I cant seem to find a picture of the two frames in comparison. Just asking in case I get a hard tail kit if it would still work with a special.
i had a XS650 special sit for 3 years with gasss in it drained the tank put gas in and fired after about 15 seconds of cranking. Mine has electric and kick start :).

the in-line twin can make for a clean looking bike. i've seen some triumph choppers and they looka dn sound really nice. the xs would do well. whats the firing order of that engine by the way?

@mrCmanable The people who say that anything less than a 950 is too small usually weigh no less than 950lbs.
Im hoping to get my first ride to be either an xs650 or an sr500.
