  • I thought Tin Tin was a Belgian cartoon character.

  • I love the Sundays version of this song - I also love this version for different reasons - its still a great track.. but what the hell has happened to the audio track? it sounds like its being played back on a mono portable cassette player from 1978.. you wont get many converts to this version when it sounds that bad!

Oh and all you "purists" who prefer the original - shove it!!

If it gives even one person pleasure to hear this version then its been vindicated..

  • what a combination one of the best chill out artists tin tin out and the outstanding voice of shelly nelson, one of the best come down tunes ever

  • I can't indie dance to this...

  • This is totally ridiculous : (

  • good but not as good as the real macoy...harriet wheeler and the sundays

  • is this karaoke?

  • she brings balance to the music

  • Comment removed

  • I JUST ADORE SHELLY SHE HAS A VOICE UNSURPASSED BY ANY OTHERS! TOP TALENT WHO'S CAREER NEEDS TO BE REKINDLED!

  • i think she has a wicked voice. when you think of the likes or geri halliwell and jennifer lopez who can't sing for shit

  • ahhh the good old days...brings me back the great time i spent in london!!! great music at that time!!

  • I agree fully with bravadodave this version stands on it's own merit. ..its crisp and smooth and does not detract from the original version. Shelly has a lovely voice and I like both this and the Sunday's version equally well.

  • The Sundays do this song sooo much nicer

  • I remember when this first came out. Hated it then. Didn't think I would hate it as much as I do now. But there you go

  • jesus christ this takes me back. to the days when i didnt have a care in the world...

  • @sonnyjimsonnjim ahh bring back 1999

  • @sirkastic 97 i think it was.

  • The sundays much better

  • What a load of crap, how dare you murder such a wonderful song. Crap name for a band, too

  • Its unfortunate they used this version to do a video. The Canny mix was the one that made this great, and should have been used. It was the one version worthy of the original Sundays classic.

  • i miss the 90s... anyone else?

  • @SimonB198207 great comment .......me too

  • @mal334455 well, time goes by, we grow older.... memories are sweeter than the actual events...

  • I havent heard this song for ages and just remembered it, and thought i wanna bring back those good memories

  • ah, late 1990s memories :)

  • This is a nice cover. The singer's voice is more velvety and friendly during the verses, but retains some of the piercing quality of the original singer's voice. Altogether, I really liked this cover, thank you for putting it up :).

  • @boreu2death you are horribly wrong

  • Great cover.

  • Linsay Edwards is my human physiology lecture these days

  • I remember this for a love i never had, never mind lost.... all gone by....

  • i like it. I like the Sundays version better. But this is really good too.

  • I do prefer The Sunday's version, it just sounds more sincere. But this is far from terrible.

  • To all you hating keyboard warriors out there, try coming up with your OWN opinions on this version and stop spouting the sort of drivel that passes for "factual" music criticism nowadays. It's sad to listen to musically uneducated people talk about this version as though the very fabric of it was bad, and just so that they can sound "cool". Perhaps if you had a masters degree in music, you might realise that no piece of music can be described as intrinsically poor, or worse than another.

  • wow shelly nelson is pretty terrible. to think this was my first exposure to the song. The SUNDAYS so much better. Even Faye Wong's version is better than this.

  • I like Faye Wong's cover better

  • its important that everyone here realizes that sprocket101 has the musical knowledge and understanding of a corn on the cob.

  • always has the ability to make me smile!!! and feel old!!

  • they played this on tv after argentina cheated us out of france 98 very sad

  • Bring back the 90s!

  • I love the Sundays - however this is better in every way. I can understand fans defending the original however let's base this on objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias.

  • @HalfManHalfSeagull ' better in every way' would you like to see the mona lisa wearing a digital wrist watch or the haywain with a satelite dish in the background then claim that its better than the original , what has objective criteria got to do with peoples preferences ...its purely up to themselves who they like best. you like this version best . thats fine ..no problem, its your choice . you are not wrong for choosing ; but nor is anybody else.

  • Horrible!

    Just terrible really.

I am surprised they got the permission from Harriet to even release this.

It is not good at all!

  • @sprocket101 I think you just full of crap theres nothing wrong with this version.

  • Fab song.......

  • brilliant vocals matches completely with the style and unique take on the song, one of my all time favourites of the 90's, brings back good ole memories lol

  • I miss the jangly guitar sound of the original Sundays' version, plus Harriet Whittaker's voice made it so personal, like a peek into her diary or heart..or soul.

  • cruise ship entartainers.

  • This version is a conceptual nightmare. Overcompensating singer, beat box with bongos, and cheesy video does not a good cover make. Sundays version is musical poetry.

  • @makeyoulol If you dont like it say so but it is not a nightmare dont insult music you dont understand

  • I love how Harriet's voice flows. Shelly's voice chops the song, except the chorus. Not only prefer Harriet but very much dislike Shelly voice on this song. Doesn't fit.

  • wow the 90s just sound so much happier and the music felt much more heartfelt.

  • This song is so lovely!

I like both versions. In the Sundays' version, the singer's voice has a beautiful, clear quality, but she shouts some of the high notes. This version is uniformly pleasant; no surprises. Just my opinion...

  • Best version for sure

  • I like this because it managed to win Dave and Harriet an Ivor Novello award - and maybe got more people interested in The Sundays. However, I really don't like this version. I think it's the fact it's being sung in a fake American accent. Some songs were made for British singers to sing in a British accent - like Brian Ferry, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel. Trying to Americanise it . . . kinda misses the point.

  • this is a cringeworthy version, dont like it at all.

  • @porridgeeveryday You must cringe very easily porridge. This is a different but IMHO excellent version but then again it is a great song.

  • Have to disagree - this is so much better a version. Nice vid too - ah, Paris, un petit souvenir, so it is....

  • @MikeC586

Sorry - meant that this is better than the original, disagreeing with the comment above!!!! Shelly Nelson does indeed have a much better voice and the thing is nicely-produced IMHO

  • Better than the original, Shelly Nelson is a far more accomplished singer and gives the song more depth, just my opinion. I thought the Sundays a little light weight.

  • Greatest string section in anypop song ever.

  • @Juk3n

the verve's bitter sweet symphany? not original but it worked well

  • Nowhere near as good as the original. The vocals aren't strong enough.

  • I would just like to add this is equally as terrible the second time around.

  • WHAT!!? This version is a disgrace. ....Not only is the singing the most bland and over produced studio sound I have ever heard... the backbeat sounds like its from a synthesizer from the 80's on "auto" mode. Furthermore I didn't think it was possible to "over act" in a music video. This is just absolutely terrible....Heres where the story Ends alright..for whoever this is.... I'm putting the Sundays version on repeat and BLASTING IT

  • shelly has got the best english voice for me without a doubt

  • Thanks. I have chosen to withdraw from any more flames with regard to all of this.......but glad someone got what I was saying nonetheless! cheers.

  • ok, I'll bite ;-) we all have different ears dude and thats fine. That's how it should be....keeps things interesting and diverse. but...and it's a big but.....'taste' is not anything to do with 'quality'. I get it that you don't like this version....well, ok.. she is a proper singer.....NOT an image based pop thingy. Remeber mate....the point is that it doesn't sound good to YOU....that doesn't make it bad. unless of course your personal opinion is ONLY opinion worth listening to?

  • @bravadodave I dunno who your referring to as an image based pop thingy. If it's the sundays then I find it laughable. But anyways in my opinion they could have put alot more into it. I mean the instrument seem to stand out far more than this shelly chick. And I know the point is that it doesn't sound good to ME that's implied when I made my original comment however YOU must've thought it was so important that you had to comment. So I guess my opinion is worth listening to.

  • bloody well said my friend

  • Nice version; the original was very overated!!

  • Great track...funky groove.

  • shit sandwich. without the bread.

  • over produced? voice doesn't compare? make up for what she lacked vocally? wow. I like the original as well.....but this not trying to be the original...it's INTENTIONALLY different.....and as for the vocal critique......you can't seriously fault the ability or quality. proper singer...proper vocals....obviously not to your liking but that doesn't make it bad. she is anything but bad. play fair.

  • I never said it should be the same I know it's INTENTIONALLY DIFFERENT. But it still could have been different and actually good! and I am being fair. I hear it and it doesn't sound good and thats really the bottom line. I'm not trying to compare the two although I don't think that someone with a sub par voice should try to sing a song thats above their level but thats just my opinion.

  • Shite compared to Harriet's vocals.

  • i 2nd that

  • classic !

  • Torn between this version and The Sundays. I'm from Bristol where Harriet Wheeler met her ol' man Gavurin. Perhaps it's Shelly Nelson herself that gets my vote.

  • It's a decent cover with some nice additional vocal interpretation. I like both versions.

  • Yuck. A great song, destroyed.

  • Well, only in as much as the vocals aren't a patch on the original, robbing the song of its charm.

Mind you, the awful drum track does its best to mask that... and everything else it comes into contact with. Oh, and it's horribly, horribly over produced...

as is the video: this soft-focus, lowest-common-denominator Euro pap, that should be left to advertise the country of Belgium on CNN.

  • Apart from all that... I think I'd rather pull out the original (or pull out my finger nails) than listen to this again. I lasted 52 seconds.

  • Yeah it really is overproduced and on the top of that her voice doesn't even compare to harriet's. They should have at least produced with a softer instrumentation to attempt to make up for what she lacked vocally.

  • The ORIGINAL was really a load of overated bollocks!

  • Oh please the Sundays are pure excellence if you think that anything by them is overrated then your out of your mind.

  • HOMO means MAN

  • HOMO means EQUAL/ SAME

  • Shelly Nelsons voice makes this song

    Terrific vocals - LOVE IT

  • the reason why not many people have heard of shelly nelson is because she rarely does solo music, shes more known for her duets rather than solo work, all musicians have different vocal ranges and style...she may have a softer voice but you cant say that she is crap at singing just for that, true, shes not the best in the world but she can sing,if you dont like her singing fair enough.

all of us like diff music :0)

  • i dont mind this version but the original is better, they didnt do a bad job of this tho...please people dont be racist,is there any need for it!!?? :0(

  • People who think this is better than the original should be herded into a barn and shot in the back of the head.

  • Harsh! :)

  • ugg this is heresy

  • Well i like this....

  • YUK this is F***ing horrible.

  • As Louie would say: 'I like it'

  • I prefer the Sundays version too but quite like this one, brings memories of better/worse times. Shelley Nelson has a nice voice but reminds me of Anthea Turner..which is a very bad thing.

  • This is a horrible version. The Sundays original is vastly superior and should never be covered.

  • better vocals, better tempo and percussion than the Sundays! open your ears!

  • My ears are open but they don't have the penis you have stuck in your ear. Try removing that and listen again.

  • You are clearly tone deaf and also deluded like a semi retarded X factor contestant!

  • No one has ever heard of Shelley Nelson. Explain that. The Sundays have a huge following. Harriet Wheeler has one of the best female vocals of all time. She is in the same league as Hope Sandoval and the singer from Cocteau Twins, but you probably never heard of those either because you were probably born only yesterday.

  • I often wondered who the idiots were who liked these kinds of bands? BORING SAD LONELY LOSERS!

  • why do you say that?

  • You must be an MP; stupid enough!!

  • lol! IDIOT!

  • haha love it!! Homophobic bastard!! Must be gay himself, you know what they say. Come out the closet mate!

  • "Their" accents???? It's one singer and she's British. Their debut album has been praised by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the best of all time.

  • Ayatron34 is a poor BLACK living in the British slum. ! ! This numbnuts cannot get the work, and, with a lowest dreg watching only a gay, a sexual intercourse animation, it is the bad vulgar bad-smelling dirty BLACK whom it looks ugly, and is covered with shit of the low looks dirty at all of the nose which goggled of eyes. ! !

  • @Ayatron34 ! ! You homosexsual African BLACK ! !

  • I love this song.

  • (Y). I Love This Song. :)

  • I love this version as much today as I did the first time I heard it. Shelly Nelson's voice is brill!

  • why do people remake songs and make them worse? The sundays version was inimitable and perfect. This is awful.

  • shelly nelson gave us a great tune give her more credit

  • Okay this version is much better than the original-that was RABBISH

  • how could you say? this version is cheap, always smiling no expression, sung like for nothing more important than a karaoke. the emotional fadings in the original voice .. here nothing but the melody .. but why and for whom?

  • *schmoldovia*- very well said. This girl has a good voice & when it's doubled sounds well but this drum machine vers sounds very synthetic & thin. The Sundays version as u mentioned has great emotion2it, as this 1 is just muzak version to remember the better version. Harriet's (sundays) voice is so unique it really shouldn't be copied to make sales. Copying them live I could see (for fun, to pay homage) but not to put something out as your own. Write your own song. And get a human drummer.

  • Do many give a fuck? Homo!

  • U homophobic ass. Get a life. U bitter person. U sound negative

  • Steady on Josh i really like this !

  • Sounds like a cabaret singer. Yuck.

  • classic rendition. really like it. Sundays original was of course awesome, but this is one of the best covers i've heard done in a long time.

  • This version blows---the original Sundays version is what all the fakes will be judged by.

  • I like this song.

  • Not bad, but lacks sincerity. Take it from someone who listened to the original thousands of times! I said, Good Day!

  • Come on --say something nice about it , ..can't be all bad.

The music is quite nice .. but it would be quite difficult to compete with the cute sincerity of the original. Yes, nice try.

  • the other version is extremely better. however, respects for being so daring to cover this song

  • they should be strung up for what they have done to a great song. bah

but i suppose it was a few extra quid for the sundays

  • this is brilliant

  • This reminds me so much of when I first moved to London in summer 1998. Magical time.

  • I guess original is always better but the thing is, it's one of those unique songs that sounds great no matter who sings it, u know?

  • nice try! lol . .

  • this is a beautiful version and Shelly Nelson is really very cute.

this version is from '98 - my mum says she remembers this would be playing on the car radio when she and dad used to drive up to manchester royal to see me. just a little souvernier of a terrible year...

  • The Sundays version blows this away....It's not even close.

  • this rendition of the classic sounds kinda lame especially compared to the original

  • I love this tune. I love both versions. If pushed 60/40 in the Sundays favour coz they wrote it. Both versions always remind me of the Cocteau twins. Not the song. Just the style. All good.

  • sundays..

  • I like both versions... am I alone?

  • Both are good. Sundays version wold benefit from strings as well. However original is brilliantly understated

  • No I like this one too, but I freaking love the original. Where are The Sundays, I'd kill for a new one from them and if I can be greedy, a tour as well. C'MON already.

  • Very good cover, but Sundays is better .

  • this is the first version i ever heard of this song.......i like the sundays better lol:0

  • ive become so depraved wen i wake up a song cmes in to my ed other day elvis last year linger er last week final countdown u get the pic then tis poped out of one of my brain cells as i woke up dnt no who sung it or the name they say spirits give msgs through songs ne history or meaning to tis tune

  • fkn awful

  • there's way too much going on in this song, i love the simpliticy of the sundays version! this one sucks basically :D

  • you're sooo right

  • Haven't heard this in ages!!. Why does no one play it any more!!!!!!!!!!

  • becuase it's awfull compared to the original.

  • I love this .....

  • Definitely the original version is best. Harriet of The Sundays can really make this song fly.

  • Not better then the original, but also fine!

  • oh good lord- where is harriet? We need Harriet STAT!!!! :'( No offense to this singer's abilities- this song is just so... so... HARRIET'S!! And I can understand the words :( lol

  • God dammed awful, she sounds like some pub singer. dreadful !

  • First hear this song in 1998! It feels like yesterday!

  • try looking up 'the sundays' it is their song and they are x10 beta

  • Wow..she's horrible. I can't stand the chopppy/breathiness of her voice...the other version is so smooth..takes you away with the song!

  • Truly the best version of this song. Rare case - better than the original. Video is great too

  • OH no you didnt said it!!! are u deft????

  • badman tune

  • this version just plain sucks. It kills all the atmosphere that made the sundays' version great. This is, as already said, plain and boring. It was stupid to remove the guitar and more stupid to add a very boring hiphop-like drum machine. Anyway, thanks for sharing, it just serves to show how great musicians The Sundays are.

  • nuts!!!!! you need to developed your ear, im in shock!, she didnt even to change the tone its just a very poor cover

  • Her voice is amazing...Its not that she's a Mariah or a Whitney, its just her voice is soft and clear

  • Total MURDER of the song...

  • this bitch should be shot for trying to imitate the heavenly Harriet Wheeler. This version sucks more than Tony Blair on his bf.

    Worst. Song. Ever

  • Sundays song is a million times better!!

Harriest Wheeler is amazing, This girl is amazingly bad
