Thank you Bill. It's a neat tune that lends itself well to re-harmonizing. The mic was a bit hot hence the lousy sound. I am without skills for recording.
Great song. Glad to see you cover that, allen. Lots of nice things happening all over, but at ~2 minutes, good slice for sure.
Thanks for making me recall this song. For some reason it also got me thinking of Mancini for no good reason and thinking I might try to record 'dreamsville'.
What a beautiful tune. You did it justice! You are incredibly inspirational to other musicians out there, especially to myself. Thank you for your kind comment on my page!
Just beautiful! I've never heard that song harmonized so well before. Excellent voicings. I always talk myself into using safe chords but I think I need to start experimenting.
I tried to fix the distorted sound on this thing but failed. I think the Mic was just to close. I think I will try again. What are you working on these days?
How do you keep all those chords straight in your head. I have a hard enough time with a single note melody. Don't know if you've heard the joke about the difference between a rock guitarist and a jazz guitarist? Well, a rock guitarist plays 3 chords for thousands of people..... You can fill in the rest. But the 3 (or 300) who are listening here on youtube are lovin' it. 5***** of course.
Thank you Lance!!! I once read where Les Paul went from making $5,000 a week to $50 when he started playing Jazz. This is going to sound weird, but I don't think of chords as patterns rather I apply the harmony notes I want under the melody. I don't think of a chord name because Im never certain of the possible enharmonic spellings. Sometimes it produces some rather odd fingering. C6 or Am7 ?? same notes but which name is correct? Thats question for Jazzguts.
Yes, it was a revelation to me when I discovered that a D9 chord without the root is an F#minor7b5. You change the root on any triad and it becomes a different chord ... so what do you call it? I suppose you have to relate it to the key and call it whatever according to that. You are the man when it comes to harmony Allen. Wow.
Amigo Allen:ME GUSTA MUCHO EL ARREGLO Y TU SONIDO!!!!!
The ideas with spanish reminiscences and the voicings are Beautifull too much, you are a wonderfull player and your style using a pick(Plectrum) is very clean, clear and smoth that it's much dificult to me(cause I not use more a plectrum and playing fingerstyle).
Mi Madre amo la musica de Carlos Montoya. Escuche a las grabaciones de Montoya cuando yo era un muchacho joven.
Raising the 7th tone a half step of the minor chord on a single line run does have and interesting sound. (Playing a G# over A minor) It's much more subtle than a Phrygian sound.
Fine restrained stuff Allen... and what a lovely tune... playing havoc with my memory, so I had to look it up to see why I know it... Musta heard Sarah Vaughan on the radio as a kid, I expect.. - very pretty.
It's always good to hear from you. Thank you for the encouraging words. I don't find many solo guitar arrangements of this tune on YouTube. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Very nice and well played arrangement, I like those type of tunes that float between minor and major, The Brazilian composer Ivan Linz also does that a lot too. Michel le Grand he's a great composer, beautiful voicings Allen, thanks for sharing( don't mind the little distortion, even Mic's get tired sometimes, lol) greetings Vic.
Bless your heart, Allen. That sweet scamper at the conclusion brought a smile to hold in check the furtive tear poised throughout this beauty. Transcendental. I continue to be awed and delighted by the sensitive nuances as you present melodies in a way I imagine would please composers as few renditions could. This shall mark a new design feature on my channel: a rotation of "favorites" which will then pass into playlists. I hope all our friends will discover more music this way! ~Terry
Thank you for your kind words. I floated between Am and AMaj on this one. You will have fun arranging this one. Lots of harmony that lends itself well to change. I tried to put a different harmony under each verse.
Very nice arrangement, complicated, but not too technical. Still lovely and superb!

Thank you Frank. Sometime I get carried away with harmony. I like to use open strings whenever I can. This is a perfect key for changing things.

Thanks Victor,
"Even Mics get tired" I got a good laugh from that. My Mic was clearly EXAUSTED.
I too like the "variable" tonal center.
I intend to check out some other of Le Grand's work. This tune was fun to arrange. I tried to make the harmony supporting each verse different.
Cheers,
