  • The whole purpose of YouTube is to preserve little gems like this. Thanks for posting.

  • I have never heard this version-very personal as if he were actually singing to her-

  • I cannot believe I found this on a whim. THANK YOU for putting this on utube. I wanted a chance to hear the no1 songs when my Mum n Dad were born but didn't think i'd find them. thank u thanku

  • I've love Eddie forever, it seems! Thanks so much for this new-to-me treasure!

  • he was great. "march of dimes" etc. sad that it won't be long until he's as culturally inaccessible, and forgotten.

  • @monky999 Not if I can help it! I'm seventeen, and I spread this stuff around to my buddies at the local swing-dancing venue whenever I can!

  • @GnarlyPoundage Me too! Us youth that love swing music so much should start a come-back movement of epic porportions! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • @DracoFamiliar I definitelty agree although I don't know anyone my age who likes swing lol

  • thanks so much wonderful

  • Isn't he just precious!!! For me, it's Cantor over Jolson!

  • Cantor and Jolson - a couple of greats! Eddie Cantor once said that he and Jolson had one thing in common - they both thought Jolson was the greatest!

  • One of the truly talented men of the 20th century. A fine rival for the magnificent Jolson.

  • Thanks a lot for this lovely recording.

  • TV had a 20's revival sitcom during the 60's with Dorothy Provine. The musical theme was loosely based on this

  • You are a little mixed up. Dorothy Provine was in a show called the Roaring 20s, a sort of half drama half comedy hour program. The show you're thinking of was called Margie and starred Cynthia Pepper it was a half hour sitcom and used this exact song as its theme.

  • I remember the situation comedy "Margie" She had a boyfriend, Haywood. And a father who was always noodling with gimmicry in the cellar, like the two horn-speakers for 'stereo' off the old Victrola.

  • thank you for the post can i ask why you always disable the ratings i would of put 5 thanks

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks! Have been on the receiving end of irreversible ratings mischief...would just as soon opt out. ;)

    Regards,

    -RR

  • Eddie died in 1964 at 71, but sadly he outlived his own daughter Margie, who died of cancer in the late 1950s, while in her 40s.

  • Thanks, vinylsingleman--always tragic when parents outlive their kids...even a heart as valiant as Eddie's must have been broken.

    Best,

    -RR

  • In addition to his daughter , Cantors beloved wife Ida died in 1962.

  • Thanks for the added information. JT--yes, Eddie and Ida were always a very close couple.

    Kindest regards,

    -RR

  • Thank you for this great posting, and the info.

Sad to think that Eddie C. was only 47 when he died.

Re: your notes. I thought that Russ Columbo wrote "Prisoner of Love", but you attribute to Con Conrad. Whoever wrote it certainly wrote a great song.

    Regards,

    Corrie.

  • Hi Corrie,

Con Conrad was Russ Columbo's agent and collaborated with him on several songs--Russ certainly deserves the lion's share for penning "Prisoner".

Conrad died quite young but Eddie lived a long and energetic life--moving smoothly into radio and, later TV when he left Vaudeville and movies.

    Best,

    -RR
