@5647pokemon You can. Just remember that comets are fast swimmers because of their long slender bodies. Orandas, however, have rounder egg-shape bodies which slows them down. This means they'll have a harder time competing for food.
@PetaPanPipes Thanks for watching the vid :) If you mean the other lemon-colored goldie, that is SUSHI. She also grew upto 11" and had over 100 babies last summer (2010). I still have her and have rehomed all her babies last April. I only kept 3 of the best ones.
@huntawunta What a fantastic story! I my self only have 3 goldfish (fantails). They are 6"/7"ish. They live in an aquarium. I've had them for 6 years. All boys though. So no chance of babies. I'd love to some day have a pond like yours. Does it need much maintenance compared to a tank?
@PetaPanPipes Yes, just saw your goldfish vid and those guys look great. Regarding the stock tank ponds - they are so much easier to maintain, easier to do water changes because of the bottom drain, less equipment usage (just a 3000gph pump that feeds the Skippy filter). Plus all that natural sunlight is good for the fish.
Nice Vid! Cute Goldies Along With A Very Nice Song. I love Sharkey. So sad to hear that she's passed away. What happened ? How could ? Fish don't just pass away if they are healthy. Did you quarantine her before moving her to the 300 gallon ? Separate filters have different bacterias... so it could be harmful...
@Steppen03 Thanks for stopping by. We were away for 2 wks & the petsitter was recommended by a friend. I was very devastated when I got home & found Sharkey dead :( The petsitter overfed the fish, accidentally disconnected the filter connections & airpump - all this contributed to a high bioload, low oxygen levels & toxic nitrate concentration which decimated Sharkey & more than a dozen other goldfish in the tank. To this day I still regret what happened. PS: I only quarantine new fish.
@huntawunta I never seem to keep my goldfishes right. My tank was 40gals with 3 ryukins about 4 inches long each and weekly water change. But they all died of swimbladder disease. HELP
I agree. UV helps kill pathogens in the water and I do have them in my indoor tanks. For this pond however, I didn't need one because the installed filtration combined with the sun's uv was adequate. Happy fishkeeping!
@flashofpink I have just one butterfly telescope in a separate tank :) I got my older fish from a local pet shop but the babies that you see in this video are spawned from 3 of my older fish a year ago. Thanks for stopping by!
@nachomacho73 No, I don't use UV light at all. I set up this 300 gallon rubbermaid tank in early June. I used the "SKIPPY FILTER" method after reading about how the green algae growth in the filter helps reduce nitrates and clear the water. I added some filter media from my other tanks to the pond filter to seed it with good bacteria and fast cycle the "pond/stock tank". I have the pond set up at a shaded area in our yard. This tank is crystal clear with 0-.5ppm Nitrates - no UV needed :)
RIP Sharkey
