  • this is hunza which is in Pakistan northen and we still have this type of dance there in kahlash

  • can ayone tell me what is this song

  • a love the twrill dance at 0:40 it's just so entrancing, very beautifuly done.

  • @mecario Actually Rosario Dawson is Afro-Cuban that means she's Black an d Latina

  • How come is it so hard to find the theme song to this movie??

  • I wonder if these girls do parties.

  • There have always been dancers, and there always will be.

  • Actually, Alexander's marriage in this movie to Roxanna was probably my favorite part of the entire film. lol. However, if it can be avoided, never give in to "the dramatic Irony of life," it just might beat you down.

  • They should have chosen someone else for the part of Roxane.. Bactrian people were not from negro blood(no offence) They were asians obviously. Nowdays Afghanistan. Even a latina would have suited better. oh well happens alot in hollywood. I enjoyed the movie and the dance

  • @Justme8772 You need to keep those racist comments to yourself ..she' had that part now keep hiding that ugly mug behind your moniter that is all !

  • @Justme8772

Ok, 1st of all Rosario Dawson is Latina. Repeat her 1st name slowly with your eyes closed and it will come to you. 2nd of all if you want to talk about mis-castings why don't we talk about white men playing Indians in old westerns or white folk playing Egyptian. I forgot to mention Vaudville when white painted their faces to do black performance.

  • @atremisshock this video does not represent Iranian or pre-Iranian culture since historically this was in Balkh, which is in present day Afghanistan. Sure Afghans were Persians... But they are not Iranian.

  • @PersianAfghani I was under the impression that Roxanna must have been a rural //Parthian// landholder's daughter.

  • I love this scene and thank you very much for the upload.

Parts of the movie are visually striking, but it was horribly miscast, they had Irish lilts, even Val Kilmer who's American.

In my opinion it's a terrible, terrible adaptation of one of the greatest stories of all time.

By the man meat of Apollo, I'll never watch another Oliver Stone film again.

  • INDIANS ALWAYS GOOD AT DANCING

  • great dagger dance!!!

  • Oooh, love this scene. Perfect. "Those who love too much, lose everything. Those who love with irony - laaast!"

  • This movie really hurt my feelings... They made Alexander the Great become Alexander the Gay...... None the less...Why do I have a feelig that if Colinf Farrel is really the bad boy he had a hard time sitting through this part?:P

  • 2 MsCaramelBrown

U said she's native american. So she's indian then?

  • Great movie, it was all based upon a pure suspicion about Alexander being gay.... forget that he conquered all the know world by the time he was 24, forget that he was a military tactical genius, forget the impact he had on the ancient world .. lets cut out his accomplishments and make a movie about him being or not in a gay relationship with Hephaestion.

  • Makes me wanna work out Greek style :P

  • I think she very much looks the part as Bookeeper57 said, and played it beautifully and she is of Puerto Rican, Afro-Cuban, Irish and Native American ancestry. So it's not like she's an full blooded African. And African Americans that are born here in America are all mixed with something unless they came straight from Africa. And when it comes to acting and portraying a character or real life person it doesn't matter what race you are as long as it comes a long as truthful.;-)

  • the point is only a dumbass american would cast an afro american as a central asian princess

  • i love this song, what is his name please???

  • does anyone know where or how to learn this dance?

  • @bramaburrr i don't think it has a spesific style that we can even name, probably some exotic dancer made up this choreography. all you can do is trying to imitate it.

  • Comment removed

  • @indiaturkey its persian classical dance

  • @bramaburrr its a bit near to some persian dance styles

  • @bramaburrr My thoughts EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!

  • @bramaburrr This is tribal bellydance, and there are a few variations of it.

Roxane came from Bactria, a region that overlapped eastern Iran and countries

    bordering it.

  • @bramaburrr Maybe it's indian dance also.....

  • @bramaburrr You can still learn it in Iran and upper Pakistani regions.

  • @bramaburrr that's traditional persian dance you can even search it up on youtube

  • @bramaburrr hi buddy it is flok dance of today Hunza which is in Pakistan. but this dance is also fine in other Northern part of Pakistan.

  • You are all contemplating what Roxana should have looked like as an afghan from the region of Soghdia but what about Alexander, hephtaestion and his lot from Macedonia, I wonder if they would have been so blond and blue eyed? In the end it is a hollywood movie - using genuine ethnic actor probably would not have made it the blockbuster is was............

  • @mitralara the 1/3 of the greek population is blond and blue eyed and alexander was blond as meny others achilles for example

  • PeRfeeCt

  • what is the name of this song?

  • ytut

  • what is the name of this song?

  • alexander was lucking in marrying roxanne she is so hot

  • Rosario has the right appearance for Roxana. She was 16 when she met Alexander. She was not Indian, but Bactrian. She came from land on the

eastern border of present day Iran. This

is not Indian classical dance. It is middle eastern tribal belly dance.

  • They cud have chose a lighther better looking slimmer Girl. Rosario doesnt relect Afghans or ancient Bactrians.

  • @bookkeeper57

No, this is central Asian folk dancing. Not Middle Eastern belly dancing. These women have their body covered fully. Belly dancers are not like that.

Persia had this type of dancing but now under Islam Iranians seem to be acting the Goat !

  • so ancient Iranians apparently looked like Puerto Ricans...I was expecting her to break into J-Lo song when I watched this the first time

  • Darius, ancient Iranians looked impressive.

Greeks had mentioned them as of dark hair (usually black) but being less sun-tanned than Greeks because they were very rich and did not need to work out in the sun like most Greeks.

Note that Greeks in their myths retained a loose link to Iranians as a cousin nation - not that Iranians derived from Greeks or the opposite of course but that Iranian people are relatives of the Mediterranean people (whose representative nation are Greeks).

  • rosario gots monster big titts, love it

  • Are you kidding me...Ancient India was Huge back then. I'm of Indian Decent and I'm very light and even some Pakistani's are blacker then tar.Pakistan Persia And India have alot of common ancestry. Old Persian and Sanskrit and Mesopotamian have very similar languages and Gods. And i do not mean to denote any other person every one is beauty.

  • that is false, pakis and indians are desis they have no common heritage with iranians or iranian people, except for in the day dreams of desis

  • I really didn't care for your input. lol

  • @TWI08 wtf iranians have got that desis dream of a common heritage with them......perhaps you havn't ever met a real desi.......i won't associate myself w those tribe like ppl even in my most horrible nightmare....

  • @LotusSitar

the indian hindus that converted to islam are black as tar

  • @RoseBlossomGarden Yeah?Well i really don't care about skin color. Heh

  • @LotusSitar

    same here

  • @LotusSitar Yes, totally agree. They have deep spiritual links.

  • This dance is probably not even Bactrian considering the culture is long lost, and there are no records of it.

  • 'ancient india' included parts of afganistan and the whole of modern pakistan . and ancient india denoted the land of the river indus . not beyond river indus .

to clear things up for u , alexander approached as far as the banks of Hyphasis River, which is now nown as beas and lies in modern indian territory .

  • Pakistan has always been different to India..Pakistan has more Persian, Arabs, Turks, Greek ancestry then India whom mostly have local dark skinned ppl and dravidians and few Aryans..Pakistanis also have different mentallity, thats why it was easy to split as Pakistan always had her Back turnes towards India in a lot of sense. Am a an Irish trainee Historian.

  • u r free to have ur own opinions .

but i cant recall any large scale riots , general dissatisfaction or suchlike incidents within 'pakistan'(excluding the agitation for its creation in 1947) which can undoubtedly establish your opinion as a fact .

    regards.

  • the fact that you are european explains your total lack of knowledge and general idiocy

  • @TWI08

can you try and comment with intellect in the future, you cluttered the video with alot of angry opinions.

  • btw , there is difference between 'ancient india' and modern republic of india , when it comes to determining territories , the latter being considerably smaller (due to emergence of afganishatan as a seperate nation and recent partition of british india to give birth to the new state of pakistan) .

  • im not trying to say that the land where alexander personally set foot lies in present day india .

im just saying that the culture of those lands were vedic , and historians accept them as what was 'ancient india' .

  • I buy your argument but that did not include Bactria, but it included Gandhara. But historians also call ancient India, the lands east of the Indus river, where Indic (Indo-Aryans) live.

  • true , ancient india did not include bactria . but it included modern day afganishtan which was then known as gandhara . the name gandhara can be seen in many contemporary indian texts like the famous mahabharata as one of the states of bharatavarsha(india) . infact the queen of hastinapura(present city of delhi) was called gandhari( with reference to her place of origin in gandhar) .

  • Bactria is in Afghanistan! Gandhara makes a SMALL part of modern Afghanistan, the Eastern part with it's borders near Pakistan. Most of Afghanistan was Bactria, Aria, Transoxiana which were culturally Iranian satrapies. The people living in Gandhara today are Pashtuns who are Iranic people but culturally closer to South Asians.

  • I think they should take a Middle-eastener Actress for playing Roxanne...

This girl is pretty , but she doesn't look Middle-Eastener..neither Afghani or Bactharian.

  • Can any one give the name of this instrumental music, please ? .

It sounds Indian and not Persian, anyway !

  • "Roxane's Dance" from the Alexander soundtrack by Vangelis.

  • Trop belle,cette scène de danse !!!!

    j'adore !!!!!

  • Angelina Jolie definitely does NOT have a Greek accent in this movie. She sounds like Count Chocula.

The character she plays, Olympias, was an Epirote princess...Greek, just like the Macedonians. None of them have anything in common with the Irish. They are not Celts.

  • when hollywood makes a "historical" film they do what they want how they want to, cuz' it ain't about what really happened or how, but it is about what they can make you believe.

  • the costumes for the indians here in this movie make me laugh . except for the dhoti nothing else is accurate or historical . at alexander's time indian civilization was at its prime . and here they make us look like some half educated tribal folks with weird tatoos , desert dancing and primitive jewellery !!

the whole thing is so typically non-indian .

  • these isnt india.. this is bactria or balkh.. present day afghanistan

  • alexander advanced as far as what is now called as pakistan . before 1947 there was no separate existence of pakistan . the entire landmass comprising of pakistan, india, bangladesh was called india or bharatavarsha(by indian themselves) . and back in alexander's time even afganisthan was a part of india and its culture . it was regarded as an indian province and was called gandhar(remember gandhar art?) . the culture was typically vedic aryan type .

  • Let's clear something up. The lands of India (and Indic people) were always known to be EAST of the Indus River. Afghanistan is clearly WEST of the Indus River and is part of GREATER IRAN. Bactria was a Persian satrapy, not Indian...nor was it's culture. It's culture was Near Eastern but Central Asian for the most part but of course there were South Asian (Indian) and East Asian (Chinese) influences in Bactria via the Tocharians and Gandharians. Please do not confuse.

  • Roxanne and her people aren't Indians or in India...they are in Bactria..which today would make it somewhere in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, or even Turkmenistan.

  • the landmass that alexander invaded , and what is now know as bactria , afganishtan and pakistan was then known as taxila , gandhaar etc and formed a part of indian vedic(hindu) civilization and remained so for almost 2500 years till recent times , when afagnishtan got seperated during the last 800 years and pakistan got its new identity in 1947 after breaking away from erstwhile british india .

  • @halleygoswami Yes, completely agree with you. It was part of the Indian Vedic civilisaton. Afghanistan N.India and what is now Pakistan was deeply steeped in the Indian Vedic era.

  • the costumes , decor , music and dances also do not match with authentic historical records of those era in those times . the culture of those lands in that era was aryan culture or vedic culture .

  • Vedic culture was in India, not Greater Iran!

  • A simple mujra dance would have done so much better here. And even that isn't historically accurate either.

  • hmm she def does not look afghani...they did a very poor and inaccurate choice of picking this girl..wayy to dark and def does NOT posess any of the aryan traits

  • Also how did they know they use to dance like that those years? or how did they know Afghan Girls use to dance like that & have a Music like that those days?. Totally inaccurate in my opinion. I bet Pakistanis and Afghans had they made a film set on those days would have done a better job and be more realistic and accurate & set up dances as if they were going on those days. These lot didnt do any research but made it up. They shud av compared the dances of now (Pak & Afg) & copied it.

  • hmm she dosnt look afghan at all i think she looks good but i dont think she was good for this part, an actual afghan or irani or even a northern aryan descent indian wouldve been great but oo well still a great movie

  • very nice dance

  • Its the banjaran dance you can see its in some parts of Rajasthan India, mostly the are gypsies. you can see trails for it all over. well ,it was all India at the time so. anyone who wants hate can hate . its up to you , I am fine with that. makes world a difficult place for everyone , nothing better not even close

  • Are you blind? She is gorgeous!!! I agree it's not realistic because she does not look Persian at all, but that's a different matter.

  • she isn't supposed to be "persin". she is supposed to be Afghan and she doesn't look like that either.

  • I totally agree with you.

She doesn't posses the traits that would make you believe she's Persian.

  • where in history it is written that Alexander the Great was not Greek and that he was a gay?

  • macedonian not greek similar but with major differences and theres no real evidence for the gay thing

  • you reply to th roght comment? i dont remeber saying anything about pakistan(which was part of india)

  • you are seriously full of shit. pakis have no common heritage to iranians afghans macedonias etc, they are a desi people just like indians

  • macedonians were as greek as athenians or spartans...please find me 1 (ONE!) inscription from ancient macedonia in a non-greek language..

  • macedonians have many things in common with the celtic people. That's why Oliver stone has a lot of actors with irish accents in the cast.

  • except irish accents

  • well it standard american accent is supposed to represent greek language in movies, then an other accent is required to represent the macedonian language, which is greek but with a different accent. Thus, irish was chosen, because it sounds different to american and is also linked with the celtic heritage.

  • Angelina Jolie has a Greek accent in the movie, not an Irish one, and she is not supposed to be a Macedonian, but rather a "barbarian". So that means ur theory is that Greeks sound like Americans, Macedonians sound like Irish, and miscellaneous barbarians in Europe sound like Greeks......?

  • well they needed a third accent to distance angelina jolie from both greeks and macedonians. So what to take? French? Indian? Chinese? German? Instead, they rather took a crude version of English, like spoken by people in Eastern Europe.

  • Alexander the Great was a Macedonian at a time where Macedonia had political control over Greece. And homosexuality and bisexuality were not the taboos that they seem to be now. Having a homosexual partner and being married to a woman (for political reasons or to raise children) weren't necessarily conflicting interests. The word "Mentor" is derived from the Greek language. Mentors were older men who took younger men under their tutelage and often engaged in homosexuality.

  • what you wrote to me about Macedonia and Alexander and homosexuality is very interesting, can you state your claim ? i mean where in history it is written that a) ancient Macedonians were not ancient Greeks, b) homos ? where it is written ? c) mentor ? give me a book,

  • Yes, it is after the coming of Christianity only that Homosexuality became taboo.

For the ancient Greeks it is part of their culture .

  • @sahajad Yes you are right, for the ancient greeks it was part of their culture and it still is a part of the culture of the modern greeks as of today, most of them still like it up their buttocks, but lets be clear and not mix ancient greeks with ANCIENT MACEDONIANS...

  • @AleksJean21

I do not think that the modern greeks are like that. They are been influenced by Orthodox Christianity so Homosexuality should be taboo over there.

But in Ancient Macedonia too this practise was there. Remember Alexander's father , Phillip of Macedon had also a boy lover called Pausanias !

  • @toddgainesHAtred of hokosexuality and anything not "normal" is on the rise. I think we're entering another Dark Ages; the only difference from the last one is that it is controlled and manipulated by the insatiably greedy few. The world swings back and forth in never-ending cycles between darkness and light dominance; my hope for humanity is that we might live to see the final overthrow of this enslavement once and for all.

  • she doesnt look and completely black though, thats the thing. Egyptian maybe, Persian that is a bit of a stretch. Whateva, shes hot and the music is too and its RED, I love red!!! I like this one better than Bagoas' dance.

  • I still remember my astonishment first time I saw this scene

  • Only an American would cast an African American as an Afghan princess. Apparently the message is if you are not European you may simply be categorized as "colored". The pompous idiocy of Europeans and of Oliver Stone.

  • correct me if I am wrong but i am pretty damn sure she was not the princess as a matter of fact there was another actress who played the princess who wasn't African American. and that women who is dancing is not African American she is afro-cuban, irish, and native american decent.

  • afro cuban, irish and native american does not amount to central asian. whatever she is she obviously is not appropriate to play a central asian character princess or not. she wouldn't be cast as a european which according to you she is to some extent so what sense does it make to cast her as a centrala asian? the point being it's nonesensical no offense to her personally. she's great just wrong for the part.

  • why would scarlet johanson be qualified to play an Afghan? she doesn't look Afghan. indians are dravidians and Afghans are iranic. Any Afgjhan who looks Indian has clearly mixed with Indians. I'm sorry Afghans are not europeans negros or dravidians. is that so complicated to understand? and don't impose your colonial era complex on others, personally i despise the red pinched faces and stony blue eyes of europeans.

  • If you have some anger about something take it to the appropriate place and not a discussion based on factual data.

  • Seriously, they are not any more european than they are black or indian. if you want to make movies based on historical events they should be depicted appropriately in both appearance and sequence of events otherwise change all the names of places and people and call it fiction.

  • I served in Afghanistan and they didnt look like any Indians Ive seen. Id walk through the streets and see kids with the bluest eyes. The Aryan blood still flows in the mountains of Afghanistan.

  • aryan blood....make me laught

  • buzz off desi, keep your self hating complex out of it, these are matters of fact

  • i'm wondering why ethnicity is really that important of a consideration when casting a role like this.. the character is suppose to be exotic from what i gather and rosario dawson seems to fit that bill.. anyways.. arguing for authenticity in ethnicity or whatever it is you are doing seems a bit narrow or racist even given what the world is like today.. she wouldn't be cast as a european? what the fuck does that even mean? the understanding of what a european even is has drastically changed.

  • esa chica tiene las facciones de su cara muy toscas.. sin embargo.. es muy atractiva...

    me parece buena actriz

  • i love her dance...amazing...:)
