I'm guessing Christopher Nolan will be using something similar in "The Dark Knight Rises" with making Bane seem larger, since the on-set production photos show Batman is clearly taller than Tom Hardy in costume.
@Unevaluated I saw it too. He may be smaller, but he still has the intimidating personality of someone who could mentally destroy the Batman while stomping the living s**t out of him.
I'm not so sure, i haven't been a fan of Nolan since Memento, and i still think Begins was the best of his batman films, they've gone downhill since, bar a fantastic Ledger performance
I wonder if this will still work for the hobit, it being in 3D and all. But maybe the CGI is better today than it was back then. Some of the LOTR CGI shots didnt look that good.
@HoodlumFamily Even if you know how this is done it still works. It still fools your mind. Even if you learn how optical illusions work, they still fool your brain.
@Mustkunstn1k i understand that part....i still see it....it is called "Forced" but because i know its there it doesnt quite look as real as it did when i first saw it...
After watching this video, think of all the work these artists put into just one scene. They had to block out the scene, figure out the movement, figure out how they'd shoot the scene, build the dollies, do test runs, communicate with the actors, do multiple takes, and composite the entire scene together.
Now realize that they did all that work, with the sole purpose that you would never notice it.
A definition of true craftsmanship, if I ever saw one.
Well, I'm still confused as to how they made scenes where they would be in extremely close contact (I remember frodo hugging gandalf once.) Still, from what I saw, it was extremely smart and ultra cool.
This is magic, pure magic. Whoever came up with this is a genius. They show you how it's done but it still blows you away when you see it,. Amazing...
I LOVE ANALOG SPECIAL EFFECTS. By analog I mean not digital. Few films that have digital effects actually look as good as analog ones. Thats why I tip my hat to AVATAR.
Fascinating. Since I saw the first movie I've wanted to know how they accomplished all of the descrepencies in size that we see between the characters.
I remember seeing this in the movie and wondering how on earth they did that... I think the non-extended dvd's said it was a "secret" but I guess that's been spilled
It's because of these effects that I can never think of Elijah Wood as a normal sized human being.

See. Not everything has to be CGI. Some things can be just camera trickery. You know, what they called Movie Magic back in the 30's.

@Harizl What is the fall? A movie ?
2109917162 9 months ago
@2109917162
the most amazing movie.
/watch?v=iO0LYcCoeJY
It has ZERO, special effects. It was filmed over several years and I would have killed to have been on the journey of it's filming.
Harizl 9 months ago
@Harizl Do you even know what a special effect is?
dialupmoron 9 months ago
@dialupmoron
I meant non-analog effects in the Fall.
I can't say conversing about special effects happens to me too often, was a lack of proper definition, not intent.
Harizl 9 months ago
@Harizl So you really didn't know what you were talking about, as you could not correctly define the very thing you were talking about?
dialupmoron 9 months ago
@dialupmoron
"I meant non-analog effects in The Fall"
"It has ZERO special effects" --> "It has ZERO non-analog effects"
How is that not correctly correcting the mis-communication?
Harizl 9 months ago
This is the magic of forced perspective .
