Newer IDC clutches are sintered iron rotors and flyweights with extension springs rather than the problematic garter type, and they are OK... for weed-whacking, anyway. I run one of those on a battered old Ryobi split-shaft, but for vehicles, either of those clutches is underspecified and is going to go boom in short order. My scooter has a manual belt clutch derived from Snapper walkbehind final drive parts.

A31 IDC... great engine. Have one on a standup scooter. I'm guessing that one is from a Ryobi trimmer. Just a word of warning, you are geared too high to run that centrifugal clutch in that setup. You are keeping that thing slipping far too often. And judging from your shroud, your trimmer was pre late '90s which makes your clutch the early type with the shoeless cast aluminum flyweights. Those tend to frag rotors and wear drums once the friction surface wears and the spring makes contact.

Actually that's more like 24 mph, but who's counting? I'm thinking about mounting two 25cc craftsman engines to opposite sides of a crankshaft so it's always on a power stroke, putting a sprocket on the shaft, and mounting it to a tricycle. What engine were you using?

I'd find a smaller rear sprocket and put it on there, That engine might have the power to actually double your speed if everything is tuned right and maintained the way it should have been.

No matter how many engine mods or thing like that you have, if you still have the stock transmission and sprockets, you will not go any faster than 67 mph. you will only get there quicker. its simple mechanics and physics. unless it is 125xc or exc from KTM with a more widely geared gearbox.

@alexjalaff smaller rear gear increases top end speed not torque. Notice when your on a ten speed bike, the larger the front sprocket and the smaller the rear the harder it is to pedal. The smaller the front and the larger the wheel the easier it is to pedal. Generally the easier it is to pedal the slower you will go. And alternatively the harder it is to pedal the faster you will be going, considering ratios only.

Why do they put such big sprockets on the back? If you have a smaller sprocket it would go faster... I understand it would take more torque and maybe that's the problem, but it could easily handly a sprocket half that size...
