  • Rest in Peace, Phoebe. The pain is over.

  • I don't believe I've ever seen Phoebe so pleased, happy or excited after a song. Moments like that are better than....well, better than almost anything! She and Linda must have had a true, unexpected "Kodak Moment!"

  • Saturday Night Live - May 19, 1979.

  • Great harmony from two astounding voices!

  • RIP PHOEBE SNOW!!! I love her. She will forever be a legend

  • I cannot look at her and not cry because we will not hear her beautiful voice again...she gave me so many memories and they were all love memories

  • One mark of a great singer is holding pitch when screaming. Few do as well as Linda.

  • Wish they had recorded together

  • @THEJET52 Me, too! At least we will always have this YouTube vid, along with "The Married Men". :)

  • @adcan45 Love the "Married Men" duet. And the singers personalities are fun to watch. One can see the enjoyment Linda got out of Phoebe's incredibly unique voice, and that Phoebe absorbed Lindas beautiful harmony with appreciation. Certainly, great talent recognizes great talent. Linda was so young and just so cute in that video as well. I was so saddened to hear of Phoebe's death. Sigh. Thank you for your reply.

  • @THEJET52 Yeah, Phoebe's voice will ALWAYS stay with me; I bought a cassette, (remember those?), back in the early 80's, that had her version of "Gasoline Alley"--what a treat! Maybe some astute YouTube poster will someday post it on here. Because of Linda, My Fav, I have been turned on to so many incredible artists!! Rock On!!

  • This is awesomely fun! I love Linda's outfit, haha!

  • Great vid! Look at the young Mr. Shaffer jammin' on keyboards!

  • I WOULD RATHER HEAR CHER SING THIS SONG....

  • they both have the betty everett growl down.shoop shoops aren't too bad, either.

  • late seventies to early 90's SNL musical performances ruled!!!!! Notice how simple and chillin' the performances were!!!!! Awesome!!!! and great post

  • And for you youngsters out there, another great singer is part of the backup, yup, that's Patti Austin.......RIP, Phoebe. You were awesome and gave such great live performances.

  • rip Phoebe...

  • please will you tell me is it sat night live or??? I am trying to see who that sax player is, think i saw him with joni michel not sure

  • @rineat No comment on the source. The sax player is Blue Lou Marini.

  • @Dinosax69 check out "The Blues Brothers" movie!

    Kat

  • @rineat Letterman show, believe it or not. You can see the one reason I never watch his show Paul Shafer with hair. If he would mute shafers mic so I don't hear that annoying ?laugh? "ahhhh.

  • @ISamuelII I am sorry, Shafer was on SNL for a while too.

  • @rineat Try "Late Night With David Letterman",no idea on the date though.

  • @rineat That's the Blues Brothers band. Lou Marini is the Sax player. For a full list of players, check the web for The Blues Brothers Movie. I think the band actually originated on Saturday Night Live. After the skit with the Blues Brothers, the movie pulled that band in. Hope that helps.

  • @rineat Its Saturday Night Live. This clip was used in a documentary about Phoebe a while back.

  • @rineat This is on Saturday Night Live. That's Paul Schaeffer on the piano, when he had hair, and just to confirm, that is Blue Lou Marini on the alto sax (see the first Blues Brothers movie.)

  • @rineat yes, it's snl.

  • @rineat It's from Saturday Night Live. Season 4.

  • RIP phoebe.

  • RIP Phoebe....

  • These 2 woman were fantastic. Both great writers also. Phoebe, RIP, kept going.

Doesn't matter to me .but both gained a lot of weight & Linda seemed to hide away as for performing & hits. Looks like Phoebe kept going. Both were my favorite rockers & Phoebe's blusy voice was sweet. A great performance!

  • RIP Phoebe.

  • 2 fantastice singers

  • Rest In Peace Miss Phoebe Snow !!!!!!

  • Rest in peace Phoebe, u totally rocked !!!

  • Phoebe was such a fantastic mother to her only child, a daughter, that she is surely in heaven now. Singer/songwriters (and mothers) should consider her their patron saint and silently ask her for a blessing if feeling down and out.

  • Great post.....RIP Phoebe.

  • Divas!

    love them both..

    rest in peace, phoebe...

  • Awesome cover. I remember watching them perform this and thinking that Phoebe Snow had a much more powerful voice than I thought. Thanks for posting!

  • So sad that she's gone. RIP, Phoebe Snow.

  • I see Patti Austin back there she should be up front singing witht hese two talented women

  • Rest in peace Phoebe.

  • FTR, Baby, Come to Me was Patti Austin's #1 hit ...for 2 weeks. Her biggest hit. She's had many before & after that just not big like that & she's sung on practically everybody's records from Billy Joel to Paul Simon to Michael Jackson to ...: )

  • Blue Lou on the sax!

  • !Viva Phoebe Snow!

    !Viva Linda!

    !Viva TRUE TALENT!

  • Linda gets in some amazing notes as does Phoebe Snow. Just watched her live perf of "Poetry Man" which made me appreciate that song more. She's amazing and Joni Mitchell like. I love them together and Phoebe was at Linda's Radio City show of the "Feels Like Home" Tour in the mid-90s. Valerie Carter was one of the back-up vocalists and they did a great version of Neil Young's "After the Goldrush."

  • LoveFest for Phoebe on Facebook/go to her site & leave a note.

  • From Asunción, Paraguay, we say ¡yes! It is great; they are great. Thanks

  • If you look close you will see Patti Austin doing background vocals.

  • wtf is that ? they sing with their own... voices !? no play back !?

  • @degouteur funny...todays "singers" have no clue...

  • Oh wow.....I've been looking for Loving the Married Man too

  • What a great performance! They don't come along very often. Some of the best times of my life were spent listening to these two. Thanks for posting.

  • Linda is my favorite singer by far. But I had forgotten - or never knew - how powerful Phoebe Snow is. Wow. She matches Linda belt for belt. And Linda always said the small venues with the audience right there brings out her best. Man, it sure does. Thanks. This is and Married Men are real treats.

  • Fabulous - two ladies in their prime.

  • Sexy Sexy Girls..

  • Just gotta' love the hopping!

Get well soon, Pheobe. Your fans love you and missssssssssss you!

  • linda has great confidence

  • whats up with the pants

  • Dear Phoebe: I'm praying for you too. BTW, I remember seeing you and Linda perform The Shoop Shoop Song live on SNL. Couldn't get better than this!

  • I've been looking for this video for 25 years. Thanks for posting it.

  • Praying for you Phoebe!!!

  • Iwanna kiss Linda..LOL..

  • I've been a fan of Phoebe since the 70's!!!

  • DY-NO-MIIITE!!!

  • Love the way Linda dances :)

  • HOT! HOT! HOT! These girls can sannng!!

  • Ohhh yeah..how cute cute cute..Linda is so comfortable singing with Phoebe..Fun Fun Fun..

  • Hey there, I posted a higher quality video of this performance at my channel recently :))))

  • One of the top five musical performances in SNL history, in my opinion.

  • Pheobe's "YOU SEND ME" is better.

    They are adorable though.

  • Cute Cute Cute.......

  • Love it... Love it.... Love it...

  • Good God Almighty, Ms LInda is SMOKIN' HOT.

  • Happy 63rd to Linda, today, 7-14-09! Have all my LP's, CD's, DVD's out. It will be Linda's music all day today!

  • 2:28 check out Linda's expression it is priceless..i think she was caught by surprise and quite impressed..very very cute..cute Duet..love it..these girls can sing :)

  • Absolutely, I love that moment. They're one-upping each other but they're also such big fans of each other that Linda loved that Phoebe went her one better. "The Married Men" is the other great performance from this SNL episode. Phoebe is criminally underrated.

  • Hey...Yeah cute cute cute...These Girls are so cute...

  • Great video footage. Phoebe and Linda - what a fabulous performance. Thank you.

  • They are both such talents , having fun, and they are really pushing each other on the vocals here.

  • These 2 should tour together. What power and beauty in their voices and in who they are!

  • Fantastic..love it..very happy..linda looks so sweet..

  • Excellent! Loved this performance when it aired on May 19, 1979. (Maureen Stapleton was the host) Please please PLEASE say you have a video of the other song Phoebe and Linda sang that night, the Roche Sisters' haunting, heartbreaking "The Married Men." I'm obsessed with that song!

  • Unfortunately I do not have that. Maybe someone else who does have that video will be kind enough to post for the rest of us.

  • Ah, me... well, couldn't hurt to ask. Let's hope someone who sees this video and has "The Married Men" will upload it, it's such a moving, wryly funny and beautiful song and these two knew exactly how to deliver it; their duet was a stunner. Linda remarked to the SNL audience that Phoebe had recorded it and she (Linda) was so jealous that the only way Phoebe could make it up was by letting her sing it with her. Thanks for posting this, Dinosax69--it's a treat to see it again after so many years!

  • @Dinosax69 WOW, they sang THAT! How cool!

  • @TheCatgirl6 Get the SNL DVD's for the year/date.

  • The two women are/were dear friends and that's so evident in this brilliant performance. The song is a great one, and they push it up a notch with this incredible live version.

  • This was filmed in May of 1979. Linda, who had her first hit with 1967's Different Drum, was the top selling female artist of the 1970's.Phoebe was a critics favorite, but her albums weren't always commercially successful. Linda would hire Patti Audtin to sing background on her 1982 album, the same year that Patti's had her first hit with Baby, Come To Me.

  • Very informative. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Both women are very talented in their own right and have a wonderful synergy when performing together.

  • Do you have the other song they sang that night? "The Married Men"?

  • cute cute cute....

  • You've put me on a new crusade to find more Phoebe Snow songs. I had completely forgotten her. My bad, my very bad. Exceptional talent.

  • The sheer joy in this duet is remarkable. It's one of the greatest "SNL" musical moments forgotten by too many fans and historians. Let's keep it alive.

  • This from Saturday Night Live and they also sang Married Men and it's a hoot! Does anybody have that video or even the whole show?

  • Yes! I bought the whole episode for two bucks on Itunes, the best two bucks I ever spent. Maureen Stapleton was the host if that helps searching for in on itunes. Get it, it's a great episode.

  • hcseoj I named my dog phoebe vbecause of her

  • Paul Shaeffer from Letterman is the piano player, for anyone who cares!

  • That's Patti Austin singing backup.

  • Sure is in the middle!!!!!

  • the level of talent on stage is exceptional.

  • Why is she singing backup when they all started at the same time

  • thanks so much for posting this! Linda and Phoebe are incredible singers and still sound amazing today...
