@BikinDan95 No. I run my own tree service now, so I get to climb and do removals and prunings. Still get to fall trees when the occasion calls for it...nothing like this one though :)
@synthwomanP5 100% positive that would not have happened. Look at old logging pictures and you will see men laying in undercuts of trees...just carrying on a tradition.
The "Greens" crack me up, so silly, so mighty when hiding behind a keyboard.
Industry stats show that a 1000+- Old Growth Redwoods were felled, every day in the 1960s. I'm betting more than that bought it in the '50s. Harvests dropped sharply in the '70s and '80s. So now when someone cuts an old snag, the AlGore wannabes come unglued, wishing death on those folks saving a little salvage. Sick bastards.
@garfark That's kind of their point: the trees have been cut down to the point of having a relatively small region left, and if they weren't for the "greens", as you call them, there probably wouldn't even be any left.
I am a true forest-wise person, and not an "al gore wannabe". most hippies are usually as bad as the loggers they protest. Green-peace, acorn, and all those other groups give TRUE environmentalists/ecologists like myself a bad rap for being crazy pot-headed lunatics. Those of us who really KNOW what we are talking about should be acknowledged.
Great job guys! That looked like a lot of work. Now, give me 8 of those per day and I'll pay you with company coupons...only redeemable at the (overpriced) company store.
@nsmcgirt I hope that you do not live in a wood frame house, or your house is not built on a lot where an old growth tree once grew, or you live in a city that was once a grove of old growth, but was clearcut to make room for people (think Seattle, San Francisco, or any other town on the coast), or you use any wood products, other wise, you are a hypocrite :)

Unnatural selection. Instead of taking lesser quality trees for consumption, we grab the biggest and best. It's poor forestry. Redwoods regrow their tops, also.
@transdrole Redwoods also grow back...like weeds! This redwood was only about half, and the tops that it grew back were just suckers....it was full of rot and decay at the top. This tree was about 60 inches where it snapped in half...you really think it could regrow a top that size?? LOL!
holy shit a 60 inch bar thats gnarly how much did it cost u
BikinDan95 1 week ago
@BikinDan95 Bar did not cost me anything as it was supplied by the Company, as were the tree jacks. It was my chainsaw power head though.

Top of the line, especially the older ones. That one was a company bar, and was an older one and had a good ring to it.
