65-68 love was a great revolutionary group ,but later love was by far more talented overall.hell many of the first group were replaced by studio musicians on foreverchanges.
My husband is having a field day listening to these sounds not quite sure what the deal is but he is in heaven. Anyone know how I can get this album quite happy to pay for this husband would like to relive his youth and torture everyone in the process!!! He especially wants to listen to feel daddy feel good.
@porkyallies26 If you want to get this song, purchase the Hendrix anthology 4 CD set coming out in November. It's called West Coast Seattle Boy. Look for it on Amazon!
@porkyallies26 You don't have to get the whole Hendrix anthology to get this song. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be worth it, because it would. But, the official release is from 1970 on an album called False Start. The first pressing of the CD sounded like distorted versions of the original album (I have the original vinyl). But, the have since remastered this and it sounds amazing. The album again is called False Start.
Shakyshane went off the deep end there, but Arthur Lee (of seminal band Love, whose Forever Changes and Da Capo are among the best records of all time) wrote and sang this song and, as neat as Jimi's guitars are (as usual), if you like this, you need to listen to Love, you'll fucking shit yourself with joy and be shocked that you've never heard it before! Stick with the original 65-68 lineup though!!!
So true. Get a hold of the dvd Love Story - a docu-film made when 2 guys from London released it in 2006. Arthur is in most of it, taking them round LA, as they tell the history of Love. Interviews with Johnny, Michael Stuart and Snoopy too.
I have to agree - Love's first 3 albums are incredible. Makes you wish they had bigger success but Arthur Lee was a really driven, talented guy, a tireless enigma and as he styled himself, the first black hippy. A truly awesome talent
It exists as a bootleg of 8 songs called "midnight sun" it seems Jimi went in the studio and laid lead tracks on these songs, but they were never fully mixed, so they show the raw nature of the work...some even argue their legitimacy, due to the lack of attention to the songs, but I THINK they sound like the real thing... If you get a copy tell me what you think.
"My Diary" is the a-side to jimi's first recorded release (by Rosa Lee Brooks) 1961.The b-side is "the Utee". 'Black Beauty' was jimi's pet name for his favorite black strat. Thanks for loving the Jimi, none the less.
It is not a bootleg it was unreleased and then released as Black beauty in the 90`s The only tracks Jimi ever recorded with Arthur are My Diary, Everlasting first and two versions of Easy Rider plus a Jam that never only got pressed onto acetate. ( acetate sold for over 2000 pounds recently ) He is NOT playing on Midnight Sun or any other tracks on Black Beauty ( My Diary being a bonus recorded as you can hear way before the rest of the album ) Thanks for loving the Arthur none the less
You rock! Thanks for posting this..I heard it once and have been dying to find it...awesome..this is what I think Jimi had in mind...that blend of rock pop and jazz...
